Swallows Rest is situated within the heart of the stunning Eden Valley and oozes character with timber floors, original exposed roof trusses and purlins. Swallows Rest reached by an external sandstone staircase, has been lovingly restored. A great deal of thought has been taken to retain as much character as possible whilst providing all modern comforts. There is a modern contemporary log burner and comfy sofas to relax in after an activity packed day. A TV, DVD/CD player, radio, iPod dock and wireless internet access are provided for entertainment in the lounge area. A brand new kitchen and luxury bathroom have been installed for entertaining and pampering. The bedroom has been beautifully appointed and provides a relaxing oasis to unwind. The Eden Valley and Northern Lakes offer a variety of activities ranging from walking and cycling to climbing and gliding. There are a good selection of country pubs and restaurants nearby that serve locally sourced quality Cumbrian produce.

Nearest airport Newcastle approx 50 miles. West Coast Mainline Railway at Penrith approx 9 miles. Settle to Carlisle Railway nearest station located at the Brief Encounter Cafe Langwathby 2 miles.


Penrith 9 miles. Keswick 25 miles. Appleby 10 miles.

Further Details:

Fabulous walks in both the Eden Valley and the Northern Lakes. Great food and real ales in local country pubs. Information will be supplied by the owners who have tried and tested the local hostelries. Trout and salmon fishing on the River Eden can be arranged with prior notice. A licence must be obtained via the EA.

Booking Notes:
To secure your booking a £100 deposit is payable on booking. The balance is due 8 weeks before arrival. If the booking is made less than 8 weeks before arrival the full rental is payable when booking. A good house keeping deposit of £100 is required on payment of either the full rental or the balance.

Changeover Day:
Change over day is Saturday. Arrival after 4pm and departure by 10am.

Prices are for the property per week in UK pounds.
A discount may be available for week long bookings made the week prior to arrival. Cancellation refunds: up to 8 weeks – no cancellation charge. 4-8 weeks – 50% of rate refunded. 2-4 weeks – 25% of rate refunded. Less than 2 weeks – no refund.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 7 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 14 days before check-in date.

  • Notes on accommodation: A welcome hamper is provided on arrival for week long stays including, milk, bread, free range eggs, tea, coffee, wine and treats. (Please advise if you have vegetarian requirements). A hair dryer and hair straighteners are also provided. Due to the nature of the property we are unable to accommodate children and pets. Swallow Rest is no smoking. Howard (owner) can provide information on walks, climbing and gliding for those looking for adventure. Outside: The front lawned south facing garden overlooking the village green is for the use of the guests staying at Swallows Rest. Garden furniture and barbecue are provided for your enjoyment. Private parking is available within the owners grounds. Secure storage and cleaning facilities are available for bicycles. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All the white bedlinen and towels are provided. Cleaning and linen change are provided once a week.
