Apartment near Los Urrutias / Los Alcazares, Mar Menor, Costa Calida - Quiet Residential Development, 300m From Sandy Beach And 10 Min Drive From La Manga Golf Resort

Two bedroom, 1 bathroom ground floor apartment with air conditioning, balcony and sun terrace. The private, communal 20m pool is directly in front of apartment (swipe card access only), with a second pool (electronic tag access) and adjacent bar & restaurant 200m away, right by the sandy beach. A children's play area, crazy golf, free tennis courts and basketball court are next to the second pool. The apartment is part of a small urbanisation of privately owned houses and apartments with a couple of restaurants, on the banks of the Mar Menor, Europe's largest salt water lagoon. Los Urrutias village, with a supermarket, general shops and restaurants is a 10 minute walk away. A 15 min drive from San Javier, Murcia airport, there are also numerous golf courses nearby with La Manga resort 10 mins drive away. Ideal for windsurfing and kite-surfing (with a dedicated space, separate from the swimming area, on the private beach), there is also a sailing school available near by.

Why Tabitha Randell chose Cartagena & Mar Menor

Excellent beach for water sports (husband is keen kite surfer) yet perfectly safe for the rest of the family. A comparatively little known area of Spain that is easily accessible from most UK airports using budget airlines.

Every time we go, we discover a new part that we haven't visited before. And you can still find local restaurants that do a tasty, three course meal including wine and bread for 9 Euros!

What makes this apartment unique

Very convenient for the beach, with a pool directly in front of the apartment if you're not keen on sand. There is a second pool and well-maintained tennis courts for use only by local residents 300m away. Two excellent value restaurants a few meters from the apartment. Area not widely known by UK tourists - small local expat community means that quiz night is available if that's your thing, but easy to avoid if it's not.

Apartment Review

This apartment is prefect for a relaxing holiday. 20m pool on your doorstep and a bar/restaurant just around the corner. The beach is only a five minute walk away. The apartment is just outside the town of Los Urrutias, but in saying that, it is only five minutes walk to the supermarket.

There are two other bar/restaurants with a stones throw.

I will definitely go back there again.

Lovely relaxing holiday

Lovely apartment with everything you need for a relaxing beach holiday also has an added advantage of having a pool right on the doorstep. Very quiet beach a few minutes walk away, some local restaurants nearby . A car is needed if you want nightlife ect but if you want a quiet relaxing holiday then this apartment and area is perfect. My family have been for the last three years and are already planning on going again next year

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

200 m/ 5 min walk to quiet, sandy beach. Very shallow, wave-free, warm water (as on the shores of the Mar Menor). Ideal kitesurfing/windsurfing beach - activity area separated from swimming area with buoys, so safe for all the family. Mediterranean beaches with waves 20 min drive away on La Manga strip. Scuba-diving/snorkeling available nearby. Calblanque national park 15 min drive away (completely unspoilt coast). Los Alcazares, a lively small town with a white sand beach 10 mins drive away.

Travel:

San Javier airport, Murcia, 15 min drive away. Alicante airport - 50 min drive away. Car hire recommended - small supermarket and several restaurants within 5 minute walk of the apartment. Local train to Cartagena about 1 mile from apartment.

Distances:

Cartagena 10 miles away - traditional Spanish town and historic naval base, excellent free music festival every July. San Pedro del Pinatar salt flats - filled with flamingoes in the Autumn. Calblanque national park 5 miles away - one of the few parts of the Spanish coast that remains completely wild and undeveloped. Murcia - regional capital, 45 miles away. Famous for its Easter parades, traditional old Spanish town with beautiful cathedral. Los Alcazeres -3 miles. Good restaurants and beaches.

Further Details:

The village of Los Urrutias is a 5 minute walk away. There is a small supermarket, with fresh bread baked daily, two fishmongers, a greengrocer (high season only), a bank with cash machine, a couple of general purpose stores and several cafes and restaurants. Market day is Thursdays.

In the urbanisation of Estrella del Mar, there are 3 restaurants, serving well priced, international cuisine (best one in 2011 was Fuegos, 20m from the apartment block). Los Alcazares is the nearest town, with lots of restaurants, shops and an annual medieval fair every Easter. It has a long beach of white sand and is three miles away from the apartment. La Manga Resort is a 10 minute drive away and day membership for its golf course is available. It also houses several good restaurants and has excellent tennis facilities. There are numerous other golf courses that also do day membership within a 30 min drive. La Manga strip is a 20 minute drive away and is a popular seaside resort with the Spanish, particularly from Madrid. For a more traditional seaside village, Cabo de Palos has some excellent seafood restaurants, with the fish usually coming straight from the sea that morning. Its rocky coves there provide excellent snorkeling. Calblanque National Park is a beautiful stretch of wild, undeveloped coast about 5 miles away.

In the autumn, the Mar Menor is used as a migration stop over by hundreds of flamingos, congregating particularly in the salt flats. San Javier airport is also the base of the Spanish equivalent of the Red Arrows - there is an annual air fair with spectacular aerobatic displays (and sometimes you see them practising overhead). Two large hypermarkets are about 15-20 min drive away.
