I look after the bookings for this property for my mother, Jean. She lives in the other half of the house and thoroughly enjoys welcoming visitors to the apartment. She is retired and so is able to take an active interest in all her guests if they so wish.

I live just under a mile away in the village of Ludgvan so one of us is usually on hand if you need anything.

A little gem

This property can only be described as a perfect little gem. It was spotlessly clean and comfortable whilst providing deceptively spacious accommodation. The owner was wonderfully kind although never intrusive. Her welcoming cream tea was a lovely touch on our arrival. The bed linens and towels were immaculately fresh and clean.

We look forward to returning to this property in the future and have no hesitation in recommending this lovely home from home.

Nice Place to Stay

A good base for visting places in south-west Cornwall. There is ample parking and the accomodation is spacious for 2 people. The kitchen is large and well-equipped with good cooking facilities and a pleasant dining area. The bed was comfortable and we managed a confortable and peaceful night's sleep depsite being close to a main road. The lounge was comfortable and a good place to relax and watch TV or DVDs. The nearest shops and beach are a few minutes drive away but we did manage to walk to Marazion and visit St Michael's Mount leaving the car at the property.

Lovely apartment.

My wife and I like staying in cottages/apartments so we can just rest and recuperate from our seven days a week business. Avarfell perfectly filled the bill in that respect as, even though it is situated on top of a roundabout conjoining the A30 with the A394 it is a very quiet and relaxing location (thanks to the hugely efficient double glazing) with no one bar the owner, in her own self-contained property, sharing with us.

As a base for some moderate car-based touring and sightseeing it was excellent. It is v. handy for shops and supermarkets as well as the beach.

With regard to the f&f these were faultless, with the odd personal exception: my wife and I are not fans of memory-foam style beds. I know that this is our loss, as v. many people have told me how wonderful these things are, however they are not for us, I'm afraid; we did not sleep wonderfully.

There is no washing machine.

The only other tiny tiny cavil was the shower handset/head; this was, at times, strangely reluctant to stay seated in the wall bracket, and would require some agited fiddling to make it stay in place whilst in the middle of a shower.

The fact that the above comments represent the sum total of our gripes about the property should tell you what a smashing place it is. It is well appointed with books, maps, guides and has an extremely efficient TV/DVD combo which adequately catered to our needs of an evening. It is well decorated and clean and tidy. The chairs and sofa are lovely and welcoming, and the kitchen table means that, even though the layout is open plan one could easily keep dining and lounging separate.

So, would we stay again? In a heartbeat if only there were a sprung mattress for our benefit!

Excellent holiday base

Excellent holiday base for cornwall. Very spacious for 2 people. Although it is situated on the A30 it was suprisingly quiet and on a private plot-no other immeadiate properties. There is a bus stop outside the property but a car is useful especially if wanting to visit many places, do a lot of shopping, carry a lot or have limited mobility (elderly, disabled or children). The owner and family were very helpful with our late booking.

From the Owner

I really like this apartment because I lived there for many years myself. I moved to Cornwall with my parents in the early 1980s when they purchased this property and I lived there with them for several years. When I moved out, the space I was living in was easily converted to an apartment within their house. There is an adjoining door to the main house but this is kept locked when the apartment is rented and has bolts on both sides of the doors to ensure privacy and security for all guests. There is a lovely garden which can be enjoyed by visitors with a large lawn leading down to small orchard. On a nice sunny day, sit on the wall by the fish pond and wait for the goldfish to pop up and say hello. While sitting there - if you're lucky - look upwards and see the buzzards circling overhead. It is, as described on the side of the A30. Our guests have said in the past that they don't notice the traffic when they are inside, but obviously it can be heard in the outdoor areas.

Nearest Airport : Newquay at 40 Miles Nearest Ferry : Penzance - Isles of Scilly at 2.8 Miles Nearest Train : Penzance at 2.2 Miles Nearest Motorway : Exeter M5 at 100 Miles Nearest Beach : Long Rock at 0.6 Miles


Marazion beach and Long Rock beach are both less than 5 mins by car or 15 mins walking. There are some lovely beaches in St Ives - 15 mins by car or Hayle 15 mins by car.


Newquay airport is approx 40 miles away. Penzance railway station and bus station is around two miles. Penzance Heliport for flights to the Isles of Scilly is around 1.5 miles and Land's End Aerodrome is 11 miles - again for trips to the Isles of Scilly.


Places to visit - St Ives approx 7 miles with lots of lovely restaurants, beaches, Tate Gallery, Barbara Hepworth Museum. The Minack Theatre at Porthcurno, 12 miles. Land's End is 12 miles. Truro and Falmouth are both around 25 miles. Marazion and St Michael's Mount are 2 miles away. Hayle, with its 3 mile long surfing beach is 6 miles.

Further Details:

There is a Morrisons supermarket in Long Rock and Tesco at Eastern Green, Penzance - both less than 2 miles away. There is now also a Sainsbury's where the heliport used to be. Long Rock has a couple of pubs while Penzance and Marazion both have plenty of pubs and restaurants. There is a leisure centre in Penzance with indoor swimming pool, gym, squash and badminton courts.
