Waterside Cottage is a beautifully refurbished, light and airy cottage, enjoying a wonderful location, surrounded by fields and offering rural tranquillity whilst conveniently located for easy access to Oxford city centre. Wendlebury Village is surrounded by picturesque Oxfordshire countryside, close to the Cotswolds and Chilterns, providing relaxing scenery, wonderful walking and riding along numerous footpaths, bridleways and by-ways. The cottage is ideally situated for tourists, overseas visitors and business people alike. London (60 miles) is easily reached by the M40, with junction 9 (1 mile) giving direct access to the national motorway network, Heathrow and Birmingham airports. There are also regular train services from Oxford and Bicester Stations to these destinations. Access to the north, the M4 and the south is via the A34 dual carriageway which is only approximately 1 mile away. The famous Bicester Village shopping outlet is no more than 2 miles.

Just lovely !

We stayed as a family of four and everything was spot on ! Hubby and sons enjoyed some fishing in the area, I had a spot of retail therapy at Bicester ! The cottage is well equipped ,very comfortable and a great place to relax and unwind . Great location to explore the area we visited Oxford and nearby towns . We are hoping to return in October

In need of some TLC

The cottage is a good size and well locates in a quiet village 2 miles from Bicester and 20 minutes drive from Oxford. There is a good pub serving food across the road.

Unfortunately during our stay in April 2016 we found that the cottage did not live up to the description, photos and reviews. It appears to have been somewhat neglected over recent times.

The front and back gardens were scruffy and overgrown. Cleanliness in the cottage was not great and there was mould on the wall of one bedroom which had clearly not been cleaned off or repainted for a while.

We raised our concerns with the owner who was very apologetic and has assured us things will be put right. Sadly we can't recommend the cottage in it's present state. I sincerely hope the owners do take action so that the next reviewers can once again recommend what should be a nice holiday home.

Owner's Response: Unfortunately we had problems with the roof at the back of the property and unbeknown to me it caused some damp on the wall of the back bedroom. The roof has been re done and the bedroom has been redecorated. The fence at the back of the house also blew down due to Hurricane Katie blowing through. The old fence was put at the back of the garden until we could remove it (when no one was in the property). This has now been done (but would account for why the garden looked scruffy). The front garden is mainly scrubs and due to the time of year it would have looked bare, apart from the beautiful Magnolia tree which was in full bloom at the time. Now that Spring is finally here and the daffodils and tulips have come up, the garden is looking lovely. The house has had a thorough spring clean and the walls in other parts of the cottage have been repainted. The cottage is now back to its high standard and we look forward to welcoming our guests into it.

Perfect house for a family and well located if you have a car. Lots of room in the house and a bog garden. Not far from Bicester and Bicester Village.

Great short break

Very nice recently renovated cottage. Owners payed special attention to details, so we really enjoyed the stay. Calm village allows you to relax and enjoy. Pity that pub across the street was still not open (they are renovating as well :) ). Would definately recommend! Hope to be back...

home from home

My family and I stayed here 4 nights for a family wedding. The cottage has been well maintained and decor is up to date. A cot and highchair was provided as requested. There was always hot water and my 3 year old son was delighted to find a selection of dvd's. Back garden closed which was reassuring for me with two sons. 5 minutes from Bicester Village Outlet, which is a must to visit. All round first class property. Would recommend to anyone visiting.

Picturesque Cottage

We stayed at this lovely cottage for a week and felt very much at home.

The cottage is well equipped, a real home from home.

The back garden is enclosed and private with a lovely patio area where you can enjoy a drink in the sunshine. The front garden is very pretty with an array of colourful flowers and a beautiful magnolia tree, which was in full bloom when we stayed there.

All amenities are close by and there is a good pub just over the road.

Great for getting around too and the cottage is near the M40 and A34 into Oxford.

All in all a very memorable stay and we would love to return one day.

Location

My name is Tracy and my husband Paul and I bought Waterside Cottage in 2003 as our main home. We fell in love with the cottage because the location is so tranquil and you can forget about the hassle and bustle of normal everyday life completely. We bought the property from an elderly gentleman who had lived there for many years. We spent a long time restoring the cottage and gardens, replacing the kitchen and bathroom and making the cottage comfortable, cosy and relaxing. We have recently decided to take bookings from holiday makers as we have moved north for work purposes and so will not be using the cottage. In spite of the rural location there is so much to do in the area to suit all tastes and it is also a great place to relax and recharge your batteries!

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

The beaches on the south coast, i.e. Bournemouth, Boscombe, Christchurch are an hour and a half away by car (at non busy times).

Travel:

The nearest airports are Heathrow and Birmingham. Heathrow is approximately 55 miles away, as is Birmingham.

Southampton and Portsmouth are 65 miles away and Dover is 90 miles away (all approximate).

Distances:

The cottage is surrounded by many pretty villages all within a few miles. Oxford city centre can be reached in around 15 minutes. The market town of Bicester would take 5 minutes by car as would Bicester Village Retail Outlet.

Further Details:

There is a leisure centre in Bicester which has a 25m pool and well equipped gymnasium. This has been recently refurbished.

Oxford city centre has an abundance of fine restaurants, coffee shops and tea rooms. The main banks and building societies can be found in both Bicester and Oxford.

Opposite the cottage is The Red Lion public house which offers home cooked food, quality wines and a selection of guest beers. Shops and local amenities are no more than 2 miles away and there is an excellent bus service which runs through the village as well as regular buses on the main road (A41) accessible through the church yard at the top of Church Lane. The buses run into Oxford and Bicester.

The cottage is set in a very pretty village which has a rural setting yet it is very close to the market town of Bicester and only a 15 minute drive from Oxford. The village has the best of both worlds as you feel that you are away from the crowds but all the amenities you need are only a short distance away. This spacious character cottage has a wonderful welcoming feel to it. It is surrounded by beautiful trees, colourful flowers and has a lovely little stream running past the front garden. The Red Lion Pub is just across the road if you would like to stay local to enjoy the food and drink that the pub has to offer. The convenient location of the cottage to the motorways and main roads however means that you can also leave the village and explore what the beautiful county has to offer.

The rear garden has a patio area with teak garden furniture and four chairs with cushions. Additional relaxing chairs are stored in the shed at the bottom of the garden. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and bed linen are included. The property will be cleaned once a week or when visitors leave (i.e. short breaks). Towels and bed linen will be changed at the same time. A spare set of bed linen and towels will also be provided. Other: The dining room has a table seating 5/6 people. A highchair is available also.
