The house is set in the heart of the Creuse countryside within easy reach of many wonderful places to visit, with fishing lakes, walking, painting and photographic opportunities around every corner. 4km from Auzances with a weekly market, local shops, supermarket, bank, post office, chemist, petrol.

About the Owner

We first found the Creuse when we came here on holiday 10 years ago, we decided to take early retirement and moved here from UK permanently just over 8 years ago, since then we have been busy renovating ' La Petite Maison and La Belle Maison' and generally enjoying ourselves. This is a lovely area to live in, peaceful, safe and very beautiful, a great place to unwind and boost your batteries. (Its a little bit like the land that time forgot!). If you love the great outdoors, mountains, lakes, lots of very fresh air, no traffic .... then you be be delighted with this lovely area of France.

Lovely little house

The house is a lovely, get away from it all, holiday venue. There is a lot to see within an hours drive if you want to go out exploring. The area is very popular with walkers! Lynn was very helpful with lots of local information on offer.

La Petite Maison - Le Thiel

Great cottage and an equally great location. The cottage had everything we needed and the welcome hamper was fantastic. Such a relaxing place. Lot's of interesting sites and great little French markets to visit in the immediate area, and the big bonus, very little traffic. I would recommend this as a brilliant place to unwind and recharge your batteries.

Cosy retreat

We enjoyed a relaxing week in this cosy, well equipped little house. Although the weather was unsettled we still enjoyed days out- Puy de Dome and Puy de Sancy and local walking. Nearby towns provided everything we needed.

We took advantage of the 'welcome' meal offer and enjoyed food and wine left as a gift by the owners.

Lovely Break

A very comfortable cottage, clean & tidy and as we are restricted with our luggage ( we travel by motorbike ) we didn't want for anything. Everything we needed, and more, was provided, and the wonderful meal Lynn cooked for us on the first night was excellent. We would also recommend the area as it is central for lots of very pretty towns. A very enjoyable week and we would recommend this accommodation.

Peace,perfect peace.

A beautiful cosy retreat in a very special part of France.

The cottage has everything that one needs for a vacation.

It is tranquil,cosy and very comfy.

Hosts Lynn & Peter are wonderful; knowledgeable about the area and the lovely restaurants.

A must is the evening meal that Lynn will cook if you wish, we had "melt in mouth" lamb, beautiful salmon and the most delicious coffee meringues that we have ever tasted. All served with Lynn's home grown fruit and veg. Superb!

Highly recommend this cottage and will be hoping to visit again!

We wanted a holiday home in an area to be able to still enjoy the changes in the seasons, autumn here is breathtaking. The area is outstandingly beautiful; no traffic, no pollution, no crowds, just peace and quiet - and night skies to die for. Being situated in a tiny hamlet gave us a flavour of french life without being in a large village, its a very safe, peaceful place to stay.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Limoges at 120 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Le Compas and Auzances at 4 Kilometres Nearest Ferry : Caen, Calais, at 400 Kilometres Nearest Train : Montlucon at 30 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : La Petite Creusois at 3 Kilometres Nearest Ski : Sancy at 30 Kilometres Car: necessary

Travel:

Our nearest airport is Limoges which is approximately 80km (2 hour drive) from the property along very easy to navigate roads. Car hire is readily available at Limoges airport.

By Ferry or Tunnel the journey usually takes around 8 hours depending on the Port you choose. (This includes a couple of 'pit stops' along the way).

Distances:

Our nearest town is Auzances approximately 4km from the property, market day is on Tuesday and you will find local shops, supermarket, bank, post office, chemist, petrol.

Aubusson is 20km away and the tapestry capital of France (now a UNESCO site). Standing on the banks of the Creuse River this beautiful town has been making tapestry since the 15th Century.

Lake Vassiviere is 40km away with 6 beaches, walks and restaurants. You can take a boat trip to the island and visit the chateaux.

Further Details:

As we are on the edge of the Limousin/Auvernge border you will have the ideal opportunity to visit the wonderful mountains of the Puy de Dome and Sancy. The cable car to the summit (1896m) is not to be missed. During the summer the walking is superb, in the winter months the resort turns into a ski station. The nature reserve (Etang des Landes), less than 30 min drive away is well worth a visit, watching the herons swooping over the water is breathtaking. The town of Crocq with its twin towers is also a must, with lots green lanes for walking. For fishermen the local lakes are peaceful and full of fish. Day passes can be obtained easily and we have fishing rods here for your use. From the village there are many wonderful walks to take along the local 'chemins' (pathways), taking in the lush countryside, rolling hills and the Limousin cattle. The flora and fauna are well worth taking binoculars and camera along with you. Our local Auberge is within easy walking distance, offering a wonderful set menu each day at a very reasonable cost. In Bellgarde on Marche the refurbished Auberge is also excellent offering lunchtime and some evening meals. For everyday items the local supermarket offers all you may need for your stay including petrol. The local baker calls in the village 3 times per week and there is a small bakery 5 minutes away by car.

Changeover Day:
Saturday is our preferred day, but this is negotiable during autumn or spring breaks. If you require an evening meal on arrival day please let us know and we will be happy to cater for you.

Notes on prices:
Long stay lets are negotiable during spring and winter months with House hunters very welcome to pick our brains.
Short stays are available at £65.00 per night for 2 people.

We have tried to make the house as comfortable, cosy and user friendly as we would like if we were on our own holiday; even down to a footspa for those days when you walk just that bit too far! We have a lovely garden for you to relax in, which is adjacent to our other property FR23950, (great if you are travelling with friends, but want your own space) it has a lovely terrace just outside the kitchen door so you can sit back with nothing to do but watch the flowers and grass grow around your book pile. If you feel slightly more energetic, from the doorstep we have some wonderful walks, through the little pathways around the village to Secondat or visit the little village of Sermur and climb to the tower, the view of the Puy Dome and Sancy from the top is wonderful. We are just near enough to the town of Auzances and a nice walk away from a lovely Auberge, infact -the perfect getaway! Offering you a home from home in the heart of France.

  • Notes on accommodation: The house is a non smoking property although we are happy for you to smoke in the garden should you need to. For holidays with family or friends please note our other property FR23950 is very close and could easily suit your needs. Outside: The terrace and garden are quite private and include table and chairs, sun loungers, parasol and barbeque. The garden does adjoin our other property FR23950. The garden is south facing; the terrace enjoys a lovely evening top up of sun. To the front of the property there is ample room for parking. The property has an attached barn and is very private. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bedlinen, towels, hair dryer, water and electricity are all included in the price. Firewood though autumn and winter lets will incur an extra cost. The property will be cleaned once per week, on changeover day, or, for longer stays on a day agreed if req. Other: At the top of the stairs you will find a large bookcase full of all-sorts of holiday reading, enough to keep everyone satisfied.
