About Rachel Postgate

I fell in love with the charm and tranquility of la Marisol with a bustling Provencal market town right on the doorstep. I'm sure you will too. The trick is to unwind and do it Provencal style, everything should be savoured slowly.

Rachel Postgate purchased this house in 2009

Why Rachel Postgate chose Isle-sur-la-Sorgue area

I have always loved the South of France since a child but wanted to get into the heart of real Provence. I fell in love with L'Isle sur la Sorgue with its abundant canals and picturesque streets and markets and have whiled away many an hour in the antique and brocante shops. Cafe lifestyle is right on your doorstep and then you enter the hidden tranquility of la Marisol. I knew it was the house for me right from the start. The love of the vendor was evident and I knew with a lot of love and care I could make it into a beautiful retreat. So a year later la Marisol is newly renovated and every much, if not more, the vision of which I dreamed.

What makes this house unique

la Marisol is right in the heart of the ancient town a mere 3 mins from the main square and Notre Dame des Anges. All shops and conveniences are within walking distance and the major supermarkets and DIY shops are a short drive away on the outskirts of town. There are countless permanent antique and brocante shops and worldwide Antiques Fairs at Easter and in mid-August. The contrast between the wonderful smells of the bi-weekly town market with its food, flower and textile stalls and the peaceful tranquility of la Marisol's secluded well stocked courtyard garden a mere minute's walk away, never ceases to amaze. A welcome pause before heading out to buy more from the vibrant market!

Guestbook comments from the owner

"La Marisol is a charming and lovely place, very well-equipped and nicely furnished. It is ideally placed in the heart of L''isle sur la Sorgue. We really enjoy our stay. It was just too short!" Devillard.

"This is a beautiful, tastefully furnished and extremely welcoming house that oozes relaxing vibes. The town of Isle sur la Sorgue is intriguing and characterful in its own right, but also a great location from which to strike out into wider Provence. We were here to spend a very atmospheric family Christmas, for which La Marisol is ideal. We recommend it without any hesitation". Durance.

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: As a traditional house, the staircase to the bedrooms is steep (15 steps). However, stairgates (and cot/highchairs if required) are available. We have had guests from 4 months up to 80 years old who have enjoyed the house regardless. The original spiral staircase to the living areas is better suited to smaller luggage. Outside: Outdoor iron dining furniture seats 10 (with cushions). There is a Weber charcoal barbecue provided. The dual aspect courtyard garden is private but we ask you to respect our neighbours at night. There are 2 other tables to sit for a different aspect, and a wonderful very private and sunny roof terrace (with 2 chairs and glass table) accessed by 2 of the bedrooms on the 2nd floor. Utility Room: Pantry contains fridge/freezer with water dispenser, washing machine, tumble dryer, vacuum cleaner, bucket and mop. Stocks include First Aid Kit and spare batteries/candles. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen and towels are included. 5 hours end of rental cleaning is also included. There is also use of the washing machine and tumble dryer should it be required. Other: The authentic entrance hall contains an original spiral staircase up to the 1st floor to access the living accommodation. This staircase is narrow so large suitcases may need to be unpacked first.
