About the property

Villa in Melrand, Pontivy Area, Morbihan, Brittany, France - Peaceful Setting In A 17c Church Hamlet Situated Near The Chateau Towns In Central Brittany

The Villa boasts its own private 1.3 acre plot with an orchard of over 60 trees planted in lines, which in spring/summer form green tunnels of natural shade adding a wonderful ambiance when dining alfresco. It is a 150 yard walk to the 400 year old chapel, and beyond for access to Locmaria's natural spring, open forest walks and tracks suitable for biking. The village of Melrand 1.5km is a 2 minute drive away for the obligatory morning 'pain au chocolat', fresh croissants and French loaf for lunchtime, available at the local boulangerie. Other amenities around a square dominated by the village church include a boucherie, epicerie, bar tabacs, coiffeur, 2 restaurants and pizza place. Around 1/2km South of the village towards Bubry is a lovely picnic play area next to a lake. The village lies above the Blavet valley close to the Sarre (1km), a tributary of the river Blavet which is a further 3kms down the valley and has cycle tracks along its river banks.

About Mike King

Tracy and Mike King have been owners of Apple Orchard for 15 years and offer holiday lets throughout the year based on offering exclusivity for our guests to enjoy our country house in its peaceful setting. We live in Fareham, Hampshire with our two teenage sons and have other rental properties near our home in the UK.

Mike King purchased this villa in 2002

Why Mike King chose Pontivy area

Peaceful and in amongst the chateau towns. Within easy distance of the beaches at Lorient, close to Lake Guerledan and between two bustling towns (Pontivy and Baud). Close to the historic towns of Auray and its bistro area and fishing port called St Goustan, Vannes and the fabulous chateau and medieval setting of Josselin.

What makes this villa unique

Peace and quiet. Good for two family groups or a large family. Safe for the kids. Exclusivity as there are no other families sharing the property or surroundings unlike a gite complex which has a number of families sharing facilities.

There is also a far better 'home' inventory than you would find in a Gite. Apple Orchard has a tiled the terrace, new kitchen, BBQ area and boules court, games room, Broadband WiFi and a new flat screen TV and a reading/music/DVD relaxation area upstairs. Review - 28th Aug 2012

If you want a peaceful, tranquil setting in the heart of Brittany, this is the place for you. I loved sitting on the patio of a morning drinking my tea and enjoying my fresh baguette with just noises from nature to listen to...The house was comfortable, well-equipped and ideal for our group...bread from the local baker's, a five-minute drive away, was excellent and we were disappointed not to have discovered the local restaurant in Melrand before our final evening...we were able to be in Auray, Vannes and Josselin within an hour. A most enjoyable week and we would warmly recommend this property. Rod Nash - Tues, 28th August, 2012

Review - 30 June 2012'

We had a great time on our holidays mixing our sunbathing days with visits to a few places as we were so central, which was nice. Our days were not complete without at least 3 badminton tournaments. You have a lovely place and we really enjoyed our stay. Many thanks. Donna and Neil Sagewood -Argyll, 30th June 20

A superb property in a glorious region of rural Fr

  • 5 of 5

We have just enjoyed the most wonderful, relaxing break with friends at Apple Orchard. We were met on arrival by the kind and generous Mike & Tracy, who couldn't do enough to make our stay a very memorable experience.

Extremely spacious, spotless, well equipped house with a beautiful orchard and lovely pool set in the delightful French countryside. You couldn't find a more rural property, yet only 5 minutes from the village with patisserie, bank, supermarket, and charming drinking establishments, where the local people were welcoming and patient with our broken French. A particular restaurant/bar not to miss where you can get fantastic value is La Tourelle. Marvellous break and would be ideal for a family, many thanks to Mike & Tracy.

Fantastic House in a Beautiful Location

  • 5 of 5

The property is in a great location with fantastic views from all windows. The layout is good for couples or families, all rooms were spotless upon arrival which obviously shows that the owners keep up the maintenance it requires. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone who is looking for a quiet, relaxing place to stay. Melrand village has all the necessary shops, bars and restaurants. At the time we stayed, there was a Fest Noz one evening in the village which was interesting and good fun, a must if you like something a bit different. We hope to return at some point to this lovely property.

Apple Orchard

  • 5 of 5

Apple Orchard is a large comfortable cottage with many great features, if it is tranquility and a "get-a-way" from it all holiday you are after then you can do no better than to stay here.

The Cottage has 4 bedrooms, a good sized kitchen, lounge and games room, the outside space is very nice with patios, lounging area and a plunge pool surrounded by many apple trees.

The location, on the outskirts of Melrand means your around 40mins from the coast, bbut there are many other attractions to be found a shorter distance away.

As a family with 4 older teenagers the WIFI was put to good use as was the games room and comfy lounge, as my partner and I slid away for an afternoon doze.

Mike is a very informative host and was very accommodating with regard to changing visiting dates and with local knowledge of restaurants and places to visit.

Nothing seems to much trouble for Mike and this goes a long way to making booking and staying at the cottage a pleasant experience.

In summery if your ideal holiday is centered on the pursuit of relaxation, and the kids are happy having the run of the garden, pool and games room then this is the perfect holiday for you, book it and enjoy!

A pleasant week at the Apple Orchard Melrand

  • 5 of 5

The Apple Orchard was easy to find from the directions provided. It is in a very quiet location a few minutes drive from Melrand where daily croissants etc. can be bought; there is also an excellent restaurant but you need to check opening times.

The house is well equipped, clean and well maintained. At the front there is a terrace overlooking fields where we spent much of our time. The pool was great for cooling down on hot afternoons. Also many games are provided, boules outside and many others in the large basement.

You will not be short of things to do in this area with many places within a short drive. We visited St Nicloas des Eaux, Josselin, Vannes, Lorient (for the submarine base), Pontivy, and the lake at Mur-De-Bretagne.

I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this property to family and friends.

Completely Chilled!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and our twins of 11 stayed at the Apple Orchard at the end of last Summer, stunning property, beautiful rural setting. We loved exploring the local area, we cycled along the River, played some golf at the local course and did some days on the beach too.

The house is great, with all the amenities that a family on holiday need, the local village is really close and we went for both the Plat du Jour and the evening meals there and also had some excellent BBQ's too, the prices of wine and food in the Supermarkets is a lot cheaper that the UK. We would definitely recommend Apple Orchard and will be back in 2016!
