Property

Updated: 21-Nov-2016

This charming stone villa in St Paul en Foret (near Fayence), Cote d'Azur is the perfect location for exploring the beautiful Côte d'Azur, and the heart of Provence.

The villa has south facing terraces and a beautifully large (12m x 6m) heated, mirror pool catching the full Mediterranean sun. Inside the villa is cool, spacious and very comfortable. It is situated on the edge of the charming village of St.Paul en Forêt which is a five minute walk. The village has a bakery, butcher and two great restaurants. With views of the mountains it is a peaceful woodland setting. It is perfect for anyone seeking a blissful Provençal retreat while exploring the regions stunning scenery, beautiful medieval perched villages and the glamorous and sophisticated Nice, Cannes and St Tropez.

This villa is a beautiful, traditionally built villa with a modern twist. It is built entirely from a warm coloured local stone with a very large open plan living/dining room including a vaulted ceiling (of the same local stone). There are two sets of french doors opening from the living/dining area onto the outside terrace.

There are three large bedrooms on the ground floor running along the south side of the hall, each with a King sized bed surrounded by full canopy netting with air-conditioning throughout the villa. The fourth bedroom is upstairs in the loft conversion which is a separate private suite, it is another large bedroom with a King sized bed, its own ensuite bathroom and air-conditioning.

On the other side of the ground floor hall are two bathrooms and a large utility room. One of the bathrooms is the ensuite for the master bedroom.

The master bedroom downstairs has French doors leading into the garden and also has a separate dressing room. Each of the downstairs bedrooms has a large built-in wardrobe. The upstairs bedroom has a free standing wardrobe.

The well equipped kitchen is newly refurbished in 2016 in a vintage style with modern appliances. The kitchen easily serves both the inside dining room and the outside terrace.

The pool is a particularly large, modern, mirror pool and forms a striking feature being so close to the villa. There is a solar shower by the pool which provides a lovely warm shower after your swim.

We have a pergola to provide shade on the south facing terrace for part of the day.

There is a full sized Boules court in the grounds of the villa and hammocks to wile away the hours relaxing.

The garden attracts lots of wildlife, including unusual birds - Eurasian Jays (with bright blue patches on their wings) and Eurasian Golden Oriole (which are bright yellow), wild Hermann Tortoises (which are native to the area) and the local forests have plenty of Wild Boar (Sanglier in French).

There may be discounts available for smaller parties, early birds, longer stays & late flexible bookings, please enquire.

About the Owner

We are an Irish couple who have lived in the UK for over 20 years. We are kept busy with our two young children. We have been advertising on owners direct for over 6 years now and have been fortunate to rent our villa to genuinely delightful guests who all share our love of France, spending time with family and having a beautiful, private, peaceful place to stay in a great location. We manage the villa ourselves with help from English friends who live in France. For your security we process the rentals the old fashioned way where we post a contract to your home address to be returned to our home address before any deposit is paid, please feel free to call and speak to us personally at any time. We hope you have a wonderful time on holidays at our villa and we are always available in person on the phone or email to help with any questions you have before you go. While on holidays Jo and Darren will look after you. Please read our reviews to see what our guests have experienced.

Well what a tranquil place to spend a week. Great villa and location. Loved exploring the area especially the mountain villages (e.g. Mons) and the wonderful Provencal cuisine!

A week wasn't long enough

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic week at the villa and would recommend it very highly. A lovely setting, first class accommodation, and exceptional outside space.

There were 6 of us (including 4 teenagers) but it easily felt spacious enough for everyone to find a little peace and quiet when they wanted it. We had a week of great weather and so spent all our time outside around the (larger than expected) pool, mucking about in the water or playing table tennis. We ate every meal outside, which was wonderful. Swimming in the pool at night was a treat. Everything felt easy, comfortable and relaxed. The house is beautiful: stylish, clean, spacious, well kept and with everything we needed. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and the bedrooms pretty. We did lots of exploring: Cannes, Antibes, Ste Maxime, as well as Fayence for the market. Everyone enjoyed getting out and about but equally we could have spent even more time just hanging out by the pool! We were given a very warm welcome by Jo and Darren, who were also at the end of the phone if we needed them. Everything was easy, from booking to departure. We all decided that we would like to return - only for much longer!

Superb

  • 5 of 5

The villa is excellent, the area is beautiful. Seillans is a typical old hill village, sadly the church was closed. Grasse market was the best, and we got caught for an hour in a bar during one of Provence's late summer thunderstorms. Moules in Fayence with a bottle of rose. Our favourite restaurant is La Ponch in St Tropez, a short drive to St Maxime and a boat across the bay. Fun at the villa included table tennis, ball games in the pool, lengthy lunches and suppers. Our favourite local vineyard, Domaine de Marchandise, is still producing elegant rose wines. In all, all 6 had a great time. I'm trying to round up a party for 2018.

We had 3 glorious weeks at this Villa and it will be a holiday to remember. The Villa had everything you could ask for to feel completely at home. Ann made the whole booking experience stress free and we cant thank Jo enough for putting some shopping in for us as we were arriving when the shops were shut. In all - Villa Fantastic / Weather Fantastic / Booking and Representatives Fantastic.

Just as lovely as last year!

  • 5 of 5

Ah, I could easily move here! Returned this year for our second visit and will definitely be back. The area offers so much: the coast, lakes, fantastic gorges and the nicest of villages to visit and lots of great restaurants close by. Couple that with the lovely home from home rustic charm of 'Les Colles' and you have the perfect recipe for a relaxing and very enjoyable stay. The villa is really well equipped, has a gorgeous heated pool and is very well prepared by Jo the manager who is both welcoming and helpful. We would highly recommend a stay.

Location

From the Owner

We love escaping to the sunny warm weather and the gorgeous food in the South of France. We visit the villa in the school holidays and are amazed at how excellent the area is as a holiday destination for families with young children. My parents spend time at the villa in May and October when the weather is also great and you can explore at your leisure. My father is a keen yachtsman, he spends hours browsing around the yachts at Frejus harbor and was enthralled with the beauty of the Tall Ships which come to St Tropez in October. My mother loves the glamour, shopping and fine restaurants of Cannes which is an easy 30 minute drive from the villa.

It is only a 14 min drive from Fayence (9 kms) where there is a large supermarket (superu) and also you are 15 minutes from three local supermarkets which have excellent local produce.

Further Details:

General area - This is a fantastic holiday area. Visitors can explore the length of the charming Cote d'Azur, and yet delve deep into the heart of Provence within a couple of hours. The immediate surroundings are of rolling hills, woodland, olive groves and delightful medieval hilltop villages such as Fayence with pavement cafes, restaurants and artisan shops. These villages host many events and festivals during the summer. Within a 15 minute drive is the stunning Lac de St Cassien, an outstanding area of natural beauty, with swimming, sailing, kayaking, pedalos, fishing and horse-riding - it is a popular alternative to the Med.

Fayence and surrounding villages - Fayence is a well known medieval perched village perched high and with some beautiful views of the Esterel hills. It is situated in the unspoilt hinterland just inland from the famous resorts and beaches of the Riviera so it's very close to the fashionable Riviera, yet it edges into beautiful Provence. It is one of five villages all founded around year 1000 (Seillan, Callian, Tourette, Montauroux and Fayence). They are amongst the most beautiful villages in France – with stone village houses lining narrow cobbled streets leading to a 'Place du Marche' or castle and church. In addition to local shops and restaurants there is a different Provencal market for nearly every day of the week. Near-by is the local Marché Paysan (Farmers Market) which is open 6 days a week in the summer.

Gorges du Verdon - The breathtaking chasm of the Gorges du Verdon also called the Grand Canyon du Verdon is unique in Europe and is one of the greatest tourist attractions in Provence. It is dubbed as one of the most spectacular natural phenomena in France. It was formed by the Verdon River, which is named after its startling turquoise-green colour, one of the canyon's most distinguishing characteristics. The Verdon River has cut into the rock an amazing 700 metres (2,300 feet) to create the tear in the landscape.
