About the Owner

We, Paul and Sandy are the private owners of 2 properties in Cape Verde which consist of a Luxury Villa and a Luxury Apartment.

We purchased them when we visited the island in 2008. We simply fell in love with the island and its people and decided that others would do the same! Now that we are both retired, we pride ourselves with the personal service that we are able to give to our clients.

Hi Paul

Just wanted to drop you a quick note to say a massive thank you for letting us stay at your property in Cape Verde. The apartment was stunning, very well equipped for all our needs and in a fabulous setting and resort.

We visited some of the restaurants you mentioned in your information pack and also a few other places in Santa Maria. The resort itself was fantastic and the staff were so friendly and attentive. We came back so relaxed and all thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Thank you so much for all your handy hints and the information you provided on booking with you.

Kindest Regards

Hi Paul.

The Holiday was perfect, we loved the place !!! We thought it is still so unspoiled which makes it even more beautiful. The apartment was wonderful, it had everything we needed and we loved the walks along the beach.

Thank you again for contributing to our lovely holiday. Maria

Fabulous property but...

  • 3 of 5

Fabulous property, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, huge balcony facing the sun. Whilst the apartment is adequately stocked with crockery and utensils, absolutely nothing was provided other than a loo roll and a bottle of water. No bin liners or washing up liquid. You have to do a shop the first thing you do on arrival.

On arrival at reception at the all inclusive resort, to indicate to security personnel that you are staying on the resort, you're given a wristband in a different colour to differentiate from the all inclusive guests. Being independent travellers we weren't keen on wearing them.

You can upgrade to an all inclusive food and drink package for 60euros a day. Instead, we decided to 'pay as you go' for drinks at the bar and the occasional meal, and opened an account at reception. The problem was that none of the bar staff or restaurants were aware of the procedure for processing payment on account - the staff just didn't know what to do - and neither were price lists available so we wouldn't have known what we were paying for anyway! It was virtually impossible to eat or drink on the resort. The surrounding hotel complexes are also all inclusive so it was difficult to get a drink or meal within walking distance. Taxis to the town were very affordable at just 4euros, which we took in the evenings to eat out in Santa Maria, where there was an excellent selection of restaurants (see Trip Advisor for reviews), the best of which you have to book several days in advance.

On arrival we enquired about wifi and were prepared to pay for it. We were told that it wasn't available in the apartments yet bizarrely when we got to the room we found that it was!

If you are happy to hang around the pool all day with your own supermarket drinks, and get a taxi to the nearest town to eat, then this apartment may be for you. Sadly we were bored and flew home after 4 nights.

Owner's Response: Dear Janice. Thank you for taking the time to submit a review of your holiday. I'm very pleased to hear that you thought the apartment was fabulous. With regards to there not being any bin liners and washing up liquid in the apartment, this was a "one off". I have spoken to our representative on the resort and unfortunately this was an error on behalf of the cleaning staff who forgot to place new cleaning materials in the apartment before your arrival, please accept my apologies for this oversight. Unfortunately, wrist bands have to be worn for security purposes, so only paying guests can gain access to the resort. With regards to food and beverages, both these CAN be purchased on the resort. All you have to do is register a credit/debit card at the reception and you simply sign for what you use. However, both on our website and in the information pack that we provided you with, we always recommend using the restaurants in the nearby town of Santa Maria, these are all very good and much cheaper and are just a five minute taxi ride away (3/4 Euros), you also experience the local atmosphere of Cape Verde. The resort is 5* and has facilities such as 2 pools (one a swim up), sunbeds both around the pools and on the fabulous beach, a full state of the art gym, sauna, steam room, free Wi-Fi, entertainment every day/evening, and these are FREE for all guests staying in our apartment, so it’s a shame that you got bored and went home early. Unfortunately, this lovely 5* resort, which is almost fully booked all year round, was not for you, but again thank you for your comments. Kind regards Paul & Sandy

Great apartment on a super complex

  • 5 of 5

We had a really fantastic holiday. Me, my wife and two boys aged 11 and 14. Very relaxing hotel, not too rowdy but enough to do. Our two boys net loads of friends and had a really memorable kids holiday. We are in Santa Maria most nights and had some great food.

The apartment was quite large, clean and comfy. Like a second home rather than a hotel room.

Great apartment in as perfect setting

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was perfect. As self catering we experienced the local life and food etc which is a bonus. You get the pools and lovely surroundings but are not tied to all inclusive. Really loved it.

Quiet and Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

The owner of the apartment at Melia Tortuga was very helpful through out the booking process. The info pack that was supplied was also a great help.

On arrival at Tortuga we were greeted with drinks and were checked in within 5 minutes. We then had a bell boy take our cases to our apartment and a standard hotel info pack was also presented to us.

The complex itself is kept to a high standard and the pool areas very clean.

We stayed SC so we tripped into Santa Maria most nights to eat and have a few drinks.

The apartment itself was very clean and in excellent condition with all the necessary amenities.

The beach was about a 2 minutes walk with plenty of beds, although entry into the water was quite rocky with a bit of care and common sense it really wasnt to difficult. The sea is quite rough so dippers should take care.

We will be staying again.

We have recently returned from a two week stay at Melia and we privately rented a two bedroomed apartment for our stay. The hotel reception were very warm and welcoming and check in was swift and efficient. Hotel porters will if required escort you and your luggage to your room ( may wait a little if busy).

The apartments were fantastic and our was very well equipped, we did make friends with families who travelled with Thomson's and they also had well equipped rooms.

The pools are of a good size and the main pool has a swim up bar, there are always loungers available and the hotel provide pool towels as part of the package. We did occasionally encounter no towels but some guests tended to keep hold of them instead of returning them at the end of the day. Beaches are a bit rocky in places but you have stunning views across the coast and ocean.

The main restaurant does get quite busy at peak points in the day but it's what you can expect, staff do try their best to get to you as quick as possible. We did have to go and get drinks from the hotel bar on a few occasions but it was no major drama. There are different theme nights every day with a fair selection of food. If you enjoy fish, you will be very pleased!! In addition to the normal menu, they also have a pasta station which gets extremely busy. I would have recommended the kitchen have two stations to cater for this as you did have to queue a long time for this. Because of this, we did go into town quite often to try different restaurants and cuisines. I feel that at the evening meal is the only aspect I was disappointed with. There are a selection of different eateries within the complex, offering great snack and lunches throughout the day. Breakfast was excellent but again an additional omelette/pancake station would be useful in the main restaurant, but food was plentiful and delicious.

The bar service was good a little slow at times but friendly. Plastic glasses are used in all outlets apart from the restaurant and main hotel bars, which is completely understandable.

Cleaning services were very through and left everything to a very high standard.

Evening entertainment is primarily more orientated to adults but had some fantastic acts ranging from local musicians to traditional dance groups.

Overall, we had a fantastic stay and returned completely relaxed and refreshed and we will definitely return again.

From the Owner

This apartment is the only one on the resort that has a combination of, a private balcony, (most have a shared balcony), located on the 1st floor (more privacy), 2 bathrooms, faces south (sunshine all day) and is located in a nice quiet position on the resort.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : at 10 Miles Nearest Barpub : at 50 Metres Nearest Restaurant : at 50 Metres Nearest Beach : at 50 Metres Car: not necessary

Special interest holidays:

If you like adventure, then hire a quad bike and visit one of the many sand dunes or beaches that the island has to offer or why not try windsurfing, kite surfing or scuba diving. Deep sea fishing, catamaran trips or whale/dolphin watching are also available on the island. The resort has its own windsurfing/kite surfing hire and tuition facilities.

This luxury apartment is situated right next to the beautiful Ponta Preta beach.

Cape Verde is only 5.5 hours from the UK with only 1 hour time difference, therefore no jet lag! The international airport is only a 20 minute taxi ride to the apartment, therefore hiring a car is not essential as most of the facilities are within walking distance. Taxis are plentiful on the resort, in Santa Maria and also at the airport.

The quaint little town of Santa Maria, with its numerous bars, restaurants, shops, banks etc is only a pleasant 20/25 minute walk away or just 3 minutes in the resorts free shuttle bus or local taxi. A visit to the salt lakes, which are situated in Pedra de Lume is worth a visit or take a look at the main capital of Espargos. A trip to the Blue Eye in the northern part of the island is also well worth a visit.

Further Details:

For those who just want to chill out, then simply watch the local fishermen bring in their daily catch on the pier or simply stroll around the many craft shops where you can buy anything from African handmade jewelry to beautiful hand paintings.
