About Mary Williams

I take pride that, Penycoed, on the doorstep of Southern Snowdonia (W244) and my Knightsbridge flat in Eresby House (E2379) are first and foremost family homes rather than purely holiday lets.

Mary Williams purchased this cottage in 1949

Why Mary Williams chose Glantwymyn

Penycoed has been part of the family farm for generations. It is situated on a hill in the picturesque Dyfi valley on the gentle southern slopes of Snowdonia. The coast and the old estuary port of Aberdovey, now a well known tourist destination, with its sandy beaches, sailing and golfing opportunities are a short drive away.

What makes this cottage unique

Being a city dweller, the cottage with its large enclosed garden continues to provide the perfect retreat and antidote to a stressful life throughout the year. Carefully renovated, it retains its period features and is furnished accordingly.

In winter, the large inglenook with its open log fire provides the perfect opportunity to relax, whilst in summer the substantial lawns, planting and high hedge provide private spaces to relax when not enjoying the wider amenities of the area.

Whilst being secluded, it has amenities such as restaurants, pubs and even a village shop and post office nearby. The acclaimed Centre for Alternative Technology is a few miles away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Mary

We'd just like to thank you for the lovely stay we had at Penycoed this August. We're still missing those lovely early morning views across the Dyfi Valley and the sound of the red kites overhead, as well as the garden and fantastic array of flowers and climbing plants that adorn the cottage. Hope you continue to let it out during the summer months (or any other time of the year for that matter) as we would like to return one day.

Kind Regards

Graham, Romayne, Ruby, Dominic & Lottie (the dog)

House lovely and warm, cosy and welcoming. Dog thought garden wonderful. Pizzas at Wynnstay and Indian good. Spanish deli in Abeystwyth utterly fantastic. Bed extremely comfy-whole place pretty much perfect. Andy and Rebecca Archer, Carlisle

Lovely picturesque cottage

  • 4 of 5

Had a great time here away from the city. Even the children liked it despite it being very much away from networks etc. (we didn't tell them about the wifi in the cottage).

Beautiful and homely

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is pretty and, nestled within acres and acres of farmland, is set in a beautiful and tranquil location. There are stunning views in all directions which can be seen from all of the upstairs rooms. Downstairs rooms look out onto the large, well maintained and secure garden. The cottage is traditionally decorated with a cosy, comfortable and homely feel. It is kept in a good state of repair as are the modern facilities. An electric shower ensures everybody gets a decent hot shower! We were provided with more towels than we needed and everything was very clean and tidy. We were also provided with wood for the fire which, despite being August, was lovely (and most welcomed) in the evening.

We didn't meet the owner of the property but she was easily contactable and communicative and was extremely friendly, welcoming and hospitable - even allowing us to run over the check-out time on the last day!

We were a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teenagers) with 3 small dogs (thank you SO much for allowing us to bring them!). It was absolutely perfect for our short stay and would not hesitate to recommend it to anybody wishing a rural retreat whilst still being a short drive from amenities.

Beautiful house and garden

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I really enjoyed our 4 night stay at Mary's beautiful traditional Welsh home. We particularly liked the garden and summer house, and our little dog loved the countryside walks. The property was very clean and well equipped. Communication with the owner about arrangements was friendly and prompt. I would recommend to friends and family.

Lovely & Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

Just spent a most relaxing week in this pretty cottage. we were blessed with good weather & enjoyed breakfast in the delightful garden watching nesting birds & soaring kites & buzzards - joy!

It was still chilly in the evenings & it was great to have heating "on tap" although we did not light the lovely fire for which logs were provided. Bed for me a little uncomfortable but I do suffer from back pain. Shower was fine. Wi Fi very useful, excellent signal too. Telly a little small but good to have sky although we hardly watched TV for a change! Location beautiful, overlooking the Dovey river. Machynlleth a pretty place, decent Co-op for supplies. All in all a wonderful week.

Thank you Mary!
