Cottage in St Georges de Montclar, Nr. Bergerac/Vergt, 2 bedrooms with en-suite facilities

Located in one of the most picturesque village in the Dordogne. A delightful old cottage fully restored to the highest standards. St. Georges de Montclar is situated half way (15km) between Vergt and Bergerac on the D21 Road. The village is slightly off the road so it is very peaceful and tranquil, surrounded by woods (la foret de Montclar). It is a rare opportunity to be able to rent a house within walking distance from a good local cafe/restaurant, village shop and post office. The cottage itself is in the heart of the village at the foot of the "chateau" and next to an old chapel (la chapelle Sainte Therese). You will be able to explore the surrounding countryside either by bike or on foot by following a circuit of signposted pedestrian paths. There is lots to do in the area including horse riding, golf, wine tasting and gastronomic experience, tennis, canoeing and visits of all the famous tourists sites of the Dordogne. The accommodation itself is on two levels and includes two double bedrooms with en suite facilities.

About The Owner

My name is Annie Wingfield. I am french but I am married to Graeme, an Englishman. I have spent 25 years in England where we used to live in Surrey and therefore I am completely fluent in written and spoken English. I used to be a financial controller for various medium sized companies but when the life in the London area became too frantic for us in 2003 we decided to move back to France. We already had purchased in 1990 our house in the Dordogne but it was in need of complete renovation and since then we are working at it. I am not originally from this area of France but we fell in love with it during some holidays and we do hope that you will learn to enjoy our region, its food and wine, its history, its sunshine and a much slower pace of life;

We love old properties full of character with beautiful features and volumes. The area has a delightful climate, good food and good wines. We love all the historical buildings and lovely scenery, the lushness of the vegetation and all this at 1hr30mn from London!

Once again I would like to say how much we enjoyed our stay in Montclard. We had a wonderful time with my parents who loved everything about it and now understand why Chris and I love France so much.

The cottage was lovely and we all felt very much at home and very comfortable in it. We loved the village and enjoyed sitting out and watching the comings and goings that went on. We never did work out who lived in the house opposite... there were always so many people coming and going!!

Notes on accommodation: the accommodation is steam cleaned at all changeovers Outside: Secluded garden and swimming pool (6 x 3m) accessible via the village street (20m away from cottage). There is a terrace in front of the cottage for alfresco eating equipped with garden furniture, charcoal barbecue provided. Utility Room: Small utility room with washing machine, ironing board and steam iron. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bedlinen, tea towels and decent size bath towels are provided and changed weekly; please bring your own towels for outside use. Electricity in the summer (May-Oct), gas, hot and cold water, three hours' cleaning at the end of the sojourn are included.

What a fantastic property! We spent two weeks there and loved it; the cottage is well laid out and fully equipped with everything you need. The owners are friendly, informative and ensure that everything is just as it should be. The pool is perfect being in the owner’s garden full of flowers and fruit trees. Outside the property the patio with is large umbrella is a nice place to sit and enjoy a glass of an evening and the village is beautiful and historic with a restaurant/bar serving perfect French food lunchtimes and weekend evenings – a nice place for a stroll at night. There’s so much to do within less than an hour’s drive that we didn’t even scratch the surface of it – so we’ve booked for next year!

Highly recommended property in a genuinely tranquil village. Villa owners - on site - were brilliant; there to help when needed but not intrusive. Good practical advice and a number of extras in property which many villa owners overlook. Variety of restaurants within short drive plus good quality hypermarket on outskirts Bergerac, again just a short drive. Plenty of places to visit whilst time to sit by the pool to chill on the hot days - just perfect!

Booking Notes:
All prices are per week from Saturday.a deposit of 33.33% is payable to secure the booking. The final balance is due 8 weeks before arrival (a shorter period may be arranged for last minute bookings). The security deposit must be paid with the balance. This cover the cost of any damage or breakages. This deposit will be returned after the rental, minus any charges for breakages, extra cleaning and electricity bills in the winter etc.

Changeover Day:
Normal changeover day on Saturdays. Departure from the gite by 10am and arrival between 5pm and 7pm.

Notes on prices:
Mid week rentals may be arranged in the low season ie from end of October to beginning of May. Security deposit £200 refundable within 1 week of the departure date less any charges deductible (breakage, damages, telephone, heating electricity in the winter, logs). Cancellations: should cancellation occur more than 8 weeks before the arrival date, then the deposit is not reimbursable, within 8 weeks cancellation charges are 100% of the holiday costs.
