House in Eltham, Greenwich, London, England, UK - Very Quiet London Suburban Street

Beechhill House was built in 1903 on farmland in Kent owned by Cameron Corbett a Scottish temperance advocate. Thus there are no pubs until the High Street. As an M.P. he ensured that the new railway went through his estates and so Eltham Station is a short 10 minute walk. The very quiet tree lined street has well kept gardens and small drives. All the houses are double fronted and Beechhill House is at the end of a terrace of four. It has many original features including cast iron fireplaces, sanded wooden floors, dado and picture rails, cornices and coving but it has also been fully modernised. It has a large walled garden.

There are 4 twin bedded rooms, 2 are en suite, and one double en suite bedroom. There is a large family bathroom. On the ground floor there is a large lounge, small lounge with double sofa bed, fully equipped kitchen which leads into a large dining area with 2 sets of French windows leading to the patio and very large lawned garden with shrubs surrounding ii.

My husband and I live in Eltham. Our 3 grown up children have now left home.

We have lived in Eltham for over 40 years and love the place and its position. We get the advantages of London, the theatre, the museums, the castles, the palaces, the shops and yet live in a quiet street where neighbours know each other and we have the Kent countryside on our doorstep.

The opportunity arose to own Beechhill House in 2004 and we decided to renovate it and offer it as self catering accommodation to anyone who wanted to sample London and its surrounds.

Why Bethan Farrar chose England

We love Eltham, it's parks, greenbelt, proximity to Central London and the Kent countryside. We also love 'Corbett' houses(circa 1903).

What makes this house unique

Beechhill House has all modern facilities and yet retains the old fireplaces, picture and dado rails, cornices and ceiling mouldings of yesteryear.It has a large garden and patio.

The very quiet street is only 20 minutes by mainline train to London Bridge. Greenwich Park is 4 miles. Central Greenwich is 5 miles, the O2 Arena is 5 miles and the main Olympic stadium is 8 miles.

Outside: At the front there is a gravel driveway with room for 3 cars. This is edged with flower beds and bushes. There is a side walkway which leads to the rear garden. French Doors open onto the patio. It has substantial tables and chairs and a gas barbecue. Two steps lead down to the large lawn in the walled garden. This is surrounded by flower beds, bushes,fruit trees and a small vegetable plot. It is West facing and so gets all day sunshine... when the sun shines. Utility Room: The washing machine and a sink are in the cellar. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen and towels are provided. They are changed weekly or at changeover.The house is cleaned at changeover and weekly as necessary. Other: The dining room has 2 French windows leading to the patio and a large table seating 12

Property was exactly as described. All the facilities worked well for our group. We were three generations of one family. Aged 3 to 64. Easy commute into central London. We came home with worn out feet but children still had energy to play in the garden. Lovely evening meal at The Barn easy walk away. High Street had everything needed for self catering in walking distance. .

Lovely house

Fantastic house, clean and spacious. Owners are helpful and welcoming. Location is good. Beautiful garden with barbecue. This house had everything we asked of it. Would recommend without reservation.

Exceeded expectation!

We booked Beechhill for a University reunion for a mixed group of 10 people (ages 28-43). The booking, check in and check out process was very easy and Bethan and Cass were wonderfully helpful and welcoming.

The house really did exceed expectation both in its location and facilities. It is a beautiful period property which is well maintained and modernised for comfort. I have previously rented houses that claim to be set up for self catering which have proved to only have the bare essentials. Beechhill is different, it is very well equipped with everything you would have in your own kitchen! The rooms were clean, with comfortable beds and the numerous bathrooms were perfect for a large number of guests.The large dining area is fantastic and seats 12 very comfortably with additional smaller tables available if required. The garden is a wonderful space if you have the weather to use it and there is a great view of London at night from the upper bedrooms!

I would 100% recommend this property. The description and details are accurate and the property was perfect for us.

Lovely house

We spent a family Christmas at Beechhillhouse. Cas and Bethan were friendly hosts and had even put up some decorations to give a feeling of a home away from home.

The house is as advertised and is spacious, well-appointed and has a great location both for those with their own car(s) or if coming by train. Eltham station is just a 5-10 walk.

The shops on the high street are nearby and supermarkets are there too (Sainsbury's, Lidl, Marks & Spencer)

I would not hesitate to book again!

The Kent coastal resorts of Broadstairs, Margate and Ramsgate are an hour's drive and Whitstable is half an hour by car.They are all served by trains from Central London. The Eltham Leisure Centre is 400m and has gym and swimming facilities. Eltham Warren Golf club and Royal Blackheath Golf Club are 0.5 km. Eltham Palace with moat and home to Henry V111 as a child is a 10 minute walk. Eltham Park South has lawn tennis courts and play areas. It is a 10 minute walk.


Stansted Airport is 40 miles, Gatwick and Heathrow are 35 miles although the latter is 60 miles if you use the M25 to avoid Central London.The A2 and A20 roads go through Eltham and serve Dover and the Channel Ports.

Trains go from Eltham to the Central London Stations of London Bridge, Charing Cross and Victoria. They take 20 and 25 minutes.


Greenwich Palaces, the Observatory, Maritime Museum and the O2 Arena are 5 miles. Buses run from the High Street which is 400m. Eltham Palace owned by English Heritage is half a mile. Anything in Central London is 20 minutes to an hour away by mainline train and underground.

Trafalgar Square is 25 minutes by train to Charing Cross Station. Canterbury is 50 miles and service buses go from Eltham.

The Docklands Light Railway runs from Lewisham to Canary Wharf. This is 25 minutes from Eltham.

Eltham Palace,a hunting palace for Henry V111.It has a Great Hall, Art Decor house, moat and is managed by English Heritage. Avery Hill Park and Winter Gardens. Greenwich University at Avery Hill. Eltham Park South and Oxleas Woods(an ancient oak wood) designated as an area of Special Scientific Interest. Charlton Athletic F.C. have their Football Academy in Sparrows Lane. Royal Blackheath Golf Club (the oldest in Engalnd). All of the great London attractions and theatres are a short train journey away. Kent, the Garden of England, is a short drive or train journey away.
