About Katherine

My wife and I live in London. We have three boys aged 11, 8 and 3. We get down to Cornwall whenever we can and spend most of our holidays there. As soon as we arrive at Blanches the boys rush off into the gardens to play in the tree house or bounce on the trampoline.

Katherine purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Katherine chose South East Cornwall

We rented a holiday house in Fowey for six years before finding Blanches. We love the area and often found ourselves crossing the Boddinick Ferry to explore the quiet lanes and beaches to the East of the Fowey River.

Most of the coastline between Fowey and Looe is owned and protected by the National Trust. Blanches is one of a small handful of private houses in the area with a view of the sea and its position at the head of a beautiful, almost private valley is truly second to none. We immediately fell in love with it and if you come you will see why!

What makes this cottage unique

The properties are fully furnished and equipped as spacious and comfortable private homes. They are large enough for big groups but have a cosy feel about them.

The gardens are a mini Heligan with graceful lawns, a valley garden and sea views. It's a magical place surrounded by nature. The children love to watch about twenty species of birds visit the well-stocked feeders next to the house. The walk down the valley or along the ridge is breath-taking with Lansallos Cove close by.

There is a wide range of activities on offer a short distance away: walking, swimming, sailing, people watching or eating in good restaurants. On a rainy day we make use of the free use of the swimming pool at the Fowey Hall Hotel or head to the world famous Eden Project, a half hour drive away.

very cosy and comfortable stay, cream tea on arrival a very nice touch, sign to come into property could do with being larger as we missed it twice as its such a small sign!! the walk to the beach from the property is not for the faint hearted!! overall a lovely stay

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your review. We're glad to hear you had a good time. The walk down the valley is spectacular but the coast line at the bottom is rocky. We get to the beach down the track next to Lansallos church. It's a fairly easy twenty minutes, ten if you park in the NT car park. The closest beach to drive to is Talland Bay, just the other side of Polperro: pink rocks and nice sand at low tide plus a good cafe. Kind regards. PS - We know what you mean about the sign and we're getting a larger one made.

Coast/Beach:

You can walk down a beautiful valley to the South-West coastal path and its spectacular beaches. Lansallos Bay, a 20 minute walk down a smugglers' track, is a beautiful enclosed bay with good swimming and a waterfall. The beach is dog friendly. You can have a cream tea on the way home (in season). Children love Lantivit Bay with its big rocks to run around, little stream to play in and rock pools to explore. If you want drama, go to Lantic Bay - well worth the walk back up.

The nearest airport is Newquay. Exeter and Bristol also serve the South West. Liskeard or Looe train station has a regular fast train service from London and other major stations. The nearest channel ferry terminal is Plymouth.
