Blanches House (Sleeps 9. 5 Bedrooms)

Blanches House is a comfortable and spacious house with a fully equipped farmhouse kitchen with 'banquet size' dining table, a beamed and expansive drawing room and galleried hallway with large wood burners. Upstairs there are 4 bedrooms; a king, double and 2 twins. Three enjoy beautiful views down the garden and valley to the sea. Two have hand basins. There is a large shower room (2 basins) with WC.

Downstairs, there is a single bedroom (with additional pull-out bed) suitable for someone who can't manage the stairs, with a bathroom with clothes washing facilities alongside. This section can be closed off and has its own entrance so it would make the perfect self-contained annex for a nanny.

There is an additional WC downstairs. The house is centrally heated. There is wireless broadband and delicious water from our private spring.

Outside there is a large sitting-out area overlooking the valley and sea, several terraced lawns and lots of secret garden areas to explore.

About Katherine

My wife and I live in London. We have three boys aged 11, 8 and 3. We get down to Cornwall whenever we can and spend most of our holidays there. As soon as we arrive at Blanches the boys rush off into the gardens to play in the tree house or bounce on the trampoline.

Katherine purchased this house in 2010

Why Katherine chose Looe

We rented a holiday house in Fowey for six years before finding Blanches. We love the area and often found ourselves crossing the Boddinick Ferry to explore the quiet lanes and beaches to the East of the Fowey River.

Most of the coastline between Fowey and Looe is owned and protected by the National Trust. Blanches is one of a small handful of private houses in the area with a view of the sea and its position at the head of a beautiful, almost private valley is truly second to none. We immediately fell in love with it and if you come you will see why!

What makes this house unique

The properties are fully furnished and equipped as spacious and comfortable private homes. They are large enough for big groups but have a cosy feel about them.

The gardens are a mini Heligan with graceful lawns, a valley garden and sea views. It's a magical place surrounded by nature. The children love to watch about twenty species of birds visit the well-stocked feeders next to the house. The walk down the valley or along the ridge is breath-taking with Lansallos Cove close by.

There is a wide range of activities on offer a short distance away: walking, swimming, sailing, people watching or eating in good restaurants. On a rainy day we make use of the free use of the swimming pool at the Fowey Hall Hotel or head to the world famous Eden Project, a half hour drive away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

4 July 2010: "We arrived at Blanches this evening and we love it. Its such a sociable open space and the sense of seclusion, space and tranquility outside is priceless! I enjoyed the last few minutes of evening sun on the lawn with little Charlotte. A real antidote to London."

16 July 2010: "A simply wonderful location and we just loved the easy access to the coast path. Favourite walks to Polperro and Lantic Bay - which was simply stunning. House was lovely - we appreciated having additional space - and arriving to a cream tea was a nice touch! Everything was in order."

1 August 2010: "Just the tranquil haven from London we needed. We loved the bird watching, swimming on Lantic Bay and evening strolls. Look out for foxes and bats."

24 April 2011: "I absolutely love this place! Best holiday house I've stayed at in England. Views are incredible! The owners are wonderful and I love the eco-consciousness of all the amenities."
