About the property

Country house inland from the coast set in a private location close to a traditional white village with beautiful views .

Casa Almendros is situated between the white villages of Sedella and Salares, overlooked by the majestic mountain of Maroma, part of the Sierra Tejeda range, which forms a magnificent backdrop ! The house is built in the style of a traditional Spanish Finca, surrounded by olive and almond trees and is tucked into the hillside overlooking a beautiful valley with views down to the Mediterranean sea. The house is on one level with an open plan kitchen , dining and lounge area . A hallway from the kitchen leads you to the pantry with a large fridge freezer , further up the hallway is the twin bedroom with french windows leading out to the terrace , the shower room and toilet is located the other side of the hallway . The master bedroom with en suite bathroom with full bath and overhead shower is located to the end of the hallway and has french windows leading out to the pool terrace area . There are plenty of areas outside to ; eat "al fresco" using the gas BBQ , lounge on the daybeds while reading a book ,sunbathe on the loungers by the pool and of course sit outside with a glass of vino taking in the views and watching the sun go down ! The high standard of the accommodation, the peace and tranquility, the delightful bird-song and the beautiful sunsets are the most frequent remarks made by visitors. This is the ideal location for a relaxing holiday, spending days exploring the area or just lazing by the pool. For the more energetic this is fantastic countryside for walking at all levels, all through sensational landscapes. Maps and guides are available in the house to use. The village of Sedella with two small grocery shops and bakery is a 20 minute walk away and Salares (with a small supermarket) is a 5 minute drive. Both are unspoilt Spanish villages and have a choice of bars and restaurants .

There is a Visitor centre in Sedella with a small gift shop , here you can learn about the flora & fauna of this area as well as its history .

We live in Oxford in the UK but the property managers , and our friends , Caroline & Malcolm live in the village of Sedella so they arrange the bookings and are there to meet the guests on arrival . Our family really enjoy staying at Casa Almendros whenever we can so that we can recharge our batteries and enjoy the peace an quiet of the area .

Why caroline ruth chose Axarquia (Costa del Sol)

We bought land with views of a beautiful, secluded valley, the mountains and the sea. We love this area because it is still unspoilt, still very Spanish, away from the crowds in beautiful countryside and yet near enough to the coast for a day out as well as day trips to Granada , Malaga , Cordoba & Sevilla .

What makes this cottage unique

Fabulous views. Peace and tranquility but the village and its bars and restaurants only 20 minutes away on foot. Friendliness of the local Spanish people. Sun, (of course), good walking routes from the doorstep. A relaxed way of life. Our perfect day is a stroll into the village for the market and coffee in the bar, chatting with Spanish friends on the way and then back to the house for lunch and a swim.

We came here in need of a relaxing holiday and we found exactly what we have been looking for, calm and tranquility. We did little apart from resting by the pool and it was great. Your villa is lovely and a pleasant place for a quiet holiday. We loved the view from the terrace and watching the stars at night. LS. We have had a fantastic holiday in your beautiful house. We all felt completely at home. The weather has been glorious and we used the pool a lot. We have admired the stars from the pool. The peace and tranquility is what we all needed. We have so many holiday highlights and wonderful memories to take back home. The fiestas were amazing, the girls loved the foam party and the horses collecting flags. Notes on accommodation: An exceptionally well equipped house with the emphasis on comfort. All rooms have ceramic heating panels plus an extremely efficient wood burning stove in the lounge and a mobile gas heater. This is also our family holiday home and is equipped to the standard you would expect for all year round comfort. Outside: The house nestles into the hillside and has terraces around the front and sides. Swimming pool 8m x 4m, depth 1m - 1.9m. The pool area has pot plantings and views to the mountains. Pool chairs with cushions and a parasol are provided. The other terraces have plenty of comfortable seating and shade and there are outside dining tables and chairs. A gas BBQ is also provided. The house is surrounded by established garden including flowers, vines fruit trees and of course almond trees ! Utility Room: Washing machine, fridge freezer, iron, ironing-board, picnic box ,cool bag and freezer blocks. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen is provided including beach/pool towels.The property is thoroughly cleaned before arrival.Clients are met on arrival in Sedella by our local contacts Caroline & Malcolm who give a tour of the property and are available for advice and support.

Beautiful family suitable home with a lovely pool in remote mountain area

A beautifully decorated and well maintained villa in a private setting. Large, well equipped living space and gorgeous outside area, with a private pool, BBQ and ample seating for al fresco dinners over looking the mountain views. We had a fantastic stay. Our two young children were able to run freely and enjoy the pool whilst we relaxed. A bit remote but would highly recommend this place for quiet family time set away from the busy areas. A car is essential to get through the winding mountain roads for food and supplies. Nerja caves about an hours drive away were spectacular and highly worth a visit. The managers met us on arrival to settle us in and were friendly and helpful. Absolutely lovely family holiday!!!

Relax

Such a quiet and remote place. Just the birds and goats gave us the occasional visit. Lovely view with the sun dropping behind the hills. House was very well equiped, though we did have some hot water issues and. Would recommend the casa. Definitely made us feel home and relaxed!

Better than perfect-a home, not a business

From our first visit in 2013 we remembered Casa Almendros as being superb. We were wrong-it is much much better than that. Perfect location and an incredibly well designed and furnished villa.

No need to say 'we will return'!

Paradise

We booked Casa Almendros for three weeeks to celebrate 20 years married and retiring from work, it was perfect. Very well maintained and everything you need from sat tv, wi-fi to a wonderful pool also a new bbq. If you want peace and quiet then this place you would love. Sedella 20mins walk takes you to a very laid back village with a few bars and restaurant. Caroline and Malcolm (pool man) are always there if any problems but not intrusive. lovely place lovely people.

Truly stunning setting, very peaceful

The villa is lovely. Set in quite countryside with a very private pool you have a perfect setting for a peaceful, battery recharging break. The road up the mountain is not too scary, but as with all roads you just have to take it steady. The villa is well equipped, the kitchen well set out and the living spaces plenty large enough for 4, let alone just us two. The outside space is well set out, with table & chairs, sofas under cover and sun loungers - so maximum choice on where to chill. Make sure you stock up on supplies on the way in, then you can choose whether to take the short trip out to the nearest town, go that little further to the coast, or just hide in the villa with good food and good drink. We loved it.

Coast/Beach:

Torre del Mar is the nearest resort, about 45 minutes away. This is an attractive resort, popular with Spanish families, with a well planned beach-front with plenty of chiringuitos for food and drink. Nerja is a more well known resort, with many renowned bays and famous caves and is about an hours drive away.

Travel:

Malaga airport is about an hour and a quarters drive away (50 miles) and Granada about one and three quarter hours. Both are serviced by budget airlines. Use of a car essential.

Distances:

The nearest villages are Sedella, 20 minutes walk and Salares 5 minutes' drive. Both have shops, bars and restaurants, doctor's surgeries and pharmacies.

The more well known white village of Competa is 30 minutes away. Competa has a greater range of restaurants, bars, shops and banks and petrol station.

Further Details:

There is a riding stables around 20 min drive in one of the neighbouring villages .

This area of east of Malaga is known as the Axarquia and is full of many delightful towns and villages to visit and fabulous scenic drives either inland to "hidden Spain" or along the Mediterranean coast.

The walking opportunities are outstanding and maps and walking routes are provided. The best time to walk is Spring or Autumn.

A 30 minute drive down the mountain is the lovely historic town of Velez-Malaga with its moorish ruined fort surrounded by the ancient Arab quarter.

For those with more modern interests, 1 mile away in Torre del Mar, is the El Engenio centre, a shopping centre with hypermarket for food, shops for fashion, jewellery, cinemas and bowling. There is also an aquatic park - Aquavelis. Torre's sea front is particularly lively at night during the summer with Spanish families and tourists enjoying the warm nights, There is usually live music of some kind on the beach in the summer months . late night shopping and restaurants and bars. Lovers of sea-food are well catered for.

Nerja, 50 minutes way to the east, once a Spanish fishing village is now an attractive bustling resort. Nerja is popular with British and other northern Europeans and has a wide range of bars and restaurants. There are a number of attractive coves and beaches, shops and boutiques.

Th famous caves of Nerja are well worth a visit !

Malaga city, about an hour's drive away, has a thriving night-life, ancient monuments and museums and the famous Picasso Museum. Granada with the magnificent Alhambra Palace is about two hours away. Cordoba and its famous Mezquita is two and a half hours away and is quite possible for a day excursion.

If you visit this area for a week there is so much to do and see you will wish you had stayed for a fortnight.

The visitors' information in the house provides information many of these activities, on bars and restaurants, shopping, excursions, beaches and walks.
