About Caroline Coulter

Having sold our studio apartment in Cavaliere after owning it for 23 years we bought this apartment in May, 2010. We have received very favourable comments from all the people who have stayed there and we continue to make improvements each year.

Caroline Coulter purchased this apartment in 2010

Why Caroline Coulter chose Le Lavandou

We spent our first holiday in Cavaliere in 1987 when we fell in love with the area. We bought our original studio in 1988 and have been spending holidays there with our children and now, our grandchildren, ever since. In 2010 we bought our present apartment. We were attracted to it because of its large terrace with a sea view.

What makes this apartment unique

We think that Cavaliere is an ideal family holiday destination. Our apartment is very close to the beach and all amenities which makes living very easy and relaxed.

Excellent apartment, good, clean accommodation in a convenient position near a patisserie and beach

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely holiday, spending most of our time on the beach and swimming but also visiting Bormes les Mimosa and Port Grimaud.

There are excellent local restaurants and shops close to the apartment.

All in all, 5 star accommodation, excellent weather and wonderful swimming

Cavaliere has a beautiful curved sandy beach. Sailing, water skiing, jet skiing, paragliding are all available. There are 3 beach bars where sun beds may be hired for the day or half day. The surrounding coastal villages are very attractive, all having sandy beaches and beach bars. Back from the coast there are sinuous roads through the Maures Massif, many with spectacular sea views and a few ferme auberges which offer interesting local food, wild boar and goats cheese are normally on the menu. Bormes les Mimosas is a very pretty hill village just behind Le Lavandou with some interesting shops and restaurants and beautiful views over the bay of Lavandou.

Toulon/Hyeres is the nearest airport 27kms away (flights from Bournemouth with Flybe). Marseilles and Nice airports are approximately 130kms away. The TGV comes to Toulon Station and there is a bus service which goes along the coast.

The nearest town is Le Lavandou 6.5km.

St. Tropez approx 30km.

Hyeres 29km.

Further Details:

Cavaliere has two small supermarkets, a boulangerie and post office. There are a two shops selling swimwear and everything for the beach and a couple of nice shops selling Provencal items. There are beach side bars and two hotels where you can hire beach beds for the day or half day. The village has a variety of restaurants and a pizzeria. In Le Lavandou there are three large supermarkets, many restaurants, banks and shops. On Monday mornings in Cavaliere there is a market right in front of our apartment. On Sundays there is a flea market in the village. Tennis courts are available for hire at the tennis club where there is also an excellent small restaurant and small swimming pool. Bicycles may be hired in the village for riding along the old railway track which runs along the coast.

In Le Lavandou ferries go to the beautiful islands of Le Levant, Port Cros and Porquerolles, known as the Isles d'Or. A day trip to Porquerolles, where you can hire bicycles to ride around the island, is always great fun. A ferry also goes to St. Tropez giving wonderful views of the coast.

For garden lovers the Domaine du Rayol is situated three villages away to the east. The gardens which stretch down to the sea are being restored. In summer concerts are sometimes held in the grounds.

St. Tropez is always very popular and fun to visit. Art lovers will enjoy the Annonciade museum. Sit and watch the yachts and 'beau monde' pass by whilst having coffee in the famous cafe, Sennequier, at the port. The market at St. Tropez is held on Tuesday and Saturday mornings. On the way there you pass by the lovely hill top villages of Gassin and Ramatuelle, both well worth a visit.

To the west the old town of Hyeres is where Queen Victoria used to stay. It has a fort and the Villa Noailles which was built in the twenties by the Count de Noailles and is now open to the public. Edith Wharton was another famous person who stayed in the town. Further on, Toulon is home to the French Navy and boat tours of the dockyards are very interesting.

Behind Cavaliere are the mountains of the Maure Massif with wonderful flora and fauna, wild boar, tortoises, chestnuts and cork oaks. Visit Collobrieres, famous for marrons glace, have lunch at La Petite Fontaine and then go to the beautiful monastry of Chartreuse de la Verne, founded in 1170. For another day out away from the coast the Gorge du Verdon is a spectacular river canyon, nicknamed the Grand Canyon of Europe and cutting a 25km swathe through Haute Provence.

For wine lovers there are many wine routes to follow driving through the vinyards with tastings of white, red and the famous rose wines offered at the chateaux and domaines. Many of these also sell their own delicious olive oil.
