La Maison de Julie is an ideal house for all seasons. Situated on the edge of the circular village of La Force, which dates back to the 11th and 12th centuries, the house is spacious but cosy, with much character, charm and certain elegance Above all it offers guests a comfortable home from home environment whatever the season. It is very well equipped, including an eclectic collection of CD's, DVD's and books, plus wifi internet connection. For art lovers the walls are adorned with original paintings. The attractive pool area is south facing, ideal for sunbathing and a dip to cool off! Enjoy the obligatory French 'apéro' on the terrace - a glass of local sparkling wine - followed by a BBQ after a hard day at the beach or a trip to one of the many local treasures - caves, Cathar castles, beautiful towns, everything you want or need is close at hand. Whether you go out or stay in, relaxation is the name of the game!

Perfect house, ideal location

We stayed at La Maison de Julie for two weeks in July, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The house is great with everything you could possibly need, and the pool and garden perfect for making the most of the lovely weather.

The location is ideal, being close to the airport, shops, restaurants and places to visit (Castelnaudary, Mirepoix and Carcassonne a must!). Julie is very helpful and on hand to help should you need it.

We would definitely recommend this property to anyone, and have already booked to return next year.

Wonderful stay a Gem

We have just come back from a wonderful month's stay at La Maison de Julie and can honestly say that we have all enjoyed our time here. The house pool and location are excellent central to many areas of interest be it climbing mountains, visiting historical sites, picnicking by the canal du midi, swimming in the sea, wine tasting and not forgetting the formidable city of Carcassonne.

The house was amazing and the owners JF Julie and Jean were helpful informative and friendly. This house welcomes everyone and anyone who stays here will have a true 'French Experience'

A wonderful house and holiday

The house has everything you could possibly imagine and more. Spacious and very well equipped. Even if the weather is mixed there is an abundance of books and DVD to provide entertainment. Delightful quiet setting, but within easy reach of some marvelous sites and local markets. Julie is a delightful helpful person with an extensive knowledge of the local area and place of interests. I highly recommend the property. The whole process of booking and directions was hassle free. Thank you Julie for providing such a wonderful experience.

A wonderful holiday

We spent the Easter week in Julie's house and loved it from the very first moment. It is really spacious, beautifully decorated and extremely well equipped (great kitchen!) and thanks to Julie everything has such a personal touch. The living/dining room is very cosy, with lots of books, CDs and DVDs. We had our bread delivered to the door by the local baker every morning, a service which we really enjoyed. We felt very much at home in the house, which was also due to Julie, who is a brilliant host. It is definitely one of the best houses we've ever rented!

Lovely, relaxing times with the family

As grandparents, a mum & dad plus 4year old & 6year old, together we had a marvelous week. So much space inside. Everything was lovely and useful. Even if the weather is not amazing you can really have a great time here. There is some great walking round here with fab views. We saw THE TOUR DE FRANCE come right through La Force, what a bonus!

You do need a car to see some amazing places, like Carcassonne.

What a find

Julie is a beautiful lady with a beautiful house. We were absolutely stunned by this fabulous place. The house has everything and more .. You could get easily spend all your time at the house if you we're looking for a relaxing break but you would miss out on so much. This area of France is breathtaking. The house is in a small quiet village but perfectly placed for sightseeing. Two weeks was not long enough...so many places to see. Julie provides recommendations for places, restaurants etc as do other holiday makers in the visitors book, they are all delightful. We visited many beautiful places but if you don't mind a bit of driving I would recommend Andorra, nice drive, stunning scenery and if you like golf, there is a golf course and driving range on the top of a mountain to which you take a cable car.

5 stars is not nearly enough. I have already recommended this property to family and friends. I hope I can return one day.

For walker's or art lovers there are possibilities of joining local groups.

The area offers some good restaurants and a host of wine tasting possibilities. Domaine Gayda offers excellent food and wine and stunning views of the surrounding countryside very reminiscent of Tuscany. Domain le Fort is our nearest family run vineyard, offering a very good selection of wine to suit all pockets. The Dominicain restaurant offers good home cooking, and the village restaurant in Arzens is a real find! Try their lunch time menus great value at 13€ including wine! Of course there are also many more gastronomic treasures to be discovered in this lovely region!

Coast/Beach:

The nearest beach to la Force is Narbonne plage, which takes exactly one hour to reach by car. The beach is very wide and long and extremely clean. Then you simply follow the coast heading in the direction of the Spanish border to enjoy amongst other, Gruissan plage, Leucate plage (wonderful for wind surfing) and then on the the quintessentially charming port of Collioure, with its winding flower clad streets, artists cafés, castle and water front restaurants - a true gem!

Travel:

The A61 motorway is 7 minutes by car from la Force. Carcassonne Airport (Salvaza) is just 15 mins away, Toulouse and Perpignan airports 50-60 mins away, Montpellier 75 mins away. All the car hire companies are represented in Carcassonne and at the airport. To benefit from all this lovely region has to offer, a car is essential.

All the Cathar castles are within easy reach, ranging from 30 mins away to 90 mins away. Golf is 25 mins away.

Limoux: 20 mins by car

Mirepoix: 15 mins by car

Narbonne town: 45 mins by car

Bézier: 75 mins by car

Montpellier: 90 mins by car

Further Details:

La Force lies in between 2 historic hilltop villages, Montréal and Fanjeaux, both 4/5 mins away by car. The local supermarket is 2 mins away by car. Although we have no 'boulangerie' in La Force, we do have a baker who does the markets, and will deliver bread, croissants etc to whoever leaves an order 4 times per week. Their pain de campagne is fantastic, and lasts for at least 3 days!. Both Fanjeaux and Montréal have restaurants, bars some shops and bakeries. The charming towns of Carcassonne, Limoux and Mirepoix are 15/20 mins away by car and all have authentic markets, shops, restaurants, bistros and bars. Cathar castles, caves, golf, fishing are all nearby. Bram, a large circular village is 7 mins away and offers all amenities including a very good Wednesday market, a train station and access to the Canal du Midi.

Changeover Day:
In mid and high season, June, July and August, rentals run strictly from Saturday to Saturday. In other seasons we can be more flexible. Please discuss this with us directly. Entry time is from 5pm to 10pm and exit time is up to 10am prompt.

Notes on prices:
The prices quoted are valid for 7 persons only. An eighth person may be accepted, but this is strictly at the owner's discretion. The price per 8th person is 100€ extra.

In high season the weeks run from saturday to saturday. Sunday to sunday may sometimes be possible, but this cannot be guaranteed.

We would kindly ask guests to note that for 'non standard' low and mid season bookings days (eg. wed to wed, tues to tues etc) we would not be able to offer any discounted prices.

We expect guests to leave the house clean and tidy before they leave. Guests can also opt to pay a cleaning fee of 80€ to be indicated to the owner in the booking form.

To secure the booking a deposit of 30% of the total rental fee is required within 7 days. The deposit is due either by bank transfer 4 weeks before the booking commences, or in cash upon arrival, this to be indicated on the booking form and rental contract.

Would potential guests please note that the deposit is non-refundable under any circumstances. Holiday insurance is thus strongly advised.
