2 single bedroom apartments, perfect for a couple. 2 mins from Alhambra Gardens

The property is located in a traditional Granadine residential neighbourhood at the foot of the Alhambra woods. The cobbled streets are traffic free and peaceful, but in five minutes you can walk down to Plaza Nueva, the historic central square of the city. From here you are within easy reach of the Albayzin...the old moorish quarter, or the cathedral and the main commercial area of the city. There are innumerable bars and restaurants close by ... we will be happy to recommend if you so wish. You couldn't be much nearer to the Alhambra. In a couple of minutes you are in the woods that lead up to the palace. If you want to visit the Alhambra, make sure you book entrance tickets in advance. We have lived in the property since renovating it in 1988, but in 2009 we created two apartments in part of the house. There are two patio areas for your use. The larger of the two apartments. Perfect for a couple. There is a double sofa-bed in the living room, good for children, but not really suitable for 2 adults. Access off the patio.

Bathroom: Shower, W.C., washbasin, hair-drier

Kitchen: Freezer/Fridge, Microwave, Kettle, Toaster, 4-hob vitro, Grill. Sink. Washing machine and foldable clothes horse. Iron and ironing board.

Livingroom: Dining table and chairs. Double sofa bed. Wardrobe. Electric heating in winter.

No air conditioning in this flat. It stays naturally cool in the hot summer.

About the Owner

Richard and Esperanza met in London in mid 70's. Esperanza studied art at the Royal College of Art; Richard played with both Joe Strummer and John Lydon in various bands of the time. They moved to Granada in 1988, having restored the ruin that they had found at the foot of the Alhambra. With their children leaving home, they decided to convert a section of the house in to two independent apartments. They still live in a seperate part of the house. Esperanza, an active artist with regular international exhibitions of her paintings and sculpture, has a ceramic studio off the patio. Some of her work is used in the decoration of the apartments. Richard is still involved in music: both playing and producing musical events. They are both more than happy to share their extensive local knowledge.

The location is perfect for the Alhambra and central for everything else.

Richard could not have been welcoming and helpful, he genuinely wants to make your stay as easy as possible.

Autumn break

We came to Granada to see the Alhambra and to get some autumn sun. The flat was very convenient for everything we needed for our stay . It was well furnished and had good heating, which was necessary as it was cold but sunny weather. There was loads of local info re places to shop and eat and Richard and Esperanza were friendly and caring hosts.

Great location!

We enjoyed our 3 day stay in this charming apartment on the Alhambra Hill! It was great fun strolling through the nearby and well lit Alhambra woods in the evening as well as walking through the city streets at the bottom of the hill. Richard gave us great advise for our daylong visit to the Alhambra as well as suggestions for other areas and sites to explore, restaurants and shops.

The apartment had all the amenities we needed including a much appreciated washer and a very comfortable bed. The little patio added a nice place to relax with a glass of wine or coffee during our visit!

Great little apartment

Close walking distance to historic areas of Granada especially Alhambra. Plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby. Very peaceful and quiet at the apartment. Richard and Esperanza were very helpful regarding tourist activities. Would definitely recommend staying here.

Great location!

Location! Location! Location! This was a lovely little apartment perfect for 2 people. There is a lots of hills & stairs to get to the apartment but that’s what Granada is all about. Very very close to the Alhambra and lots of great shopping just steps away. Richard is wonderful! He spends about ½ hour with you when you arrive to help to learn about the apartment, Alhambra tours and the town. He even called our tour company in Madrid to arrange a meeting place for us at the Alhambra entrance rather than us travelling downtown to meet the pickup bus. Very nice!

Great place to stay in Granada

On arrival Richard and Esperanza made us feel very welcome. Richard gave us an initial briefing on the main things we needed to know or would benefit from knowing for our stay - he was very informative and gave us some good tips (recommending a great little place to see some flamenco called Le Chien Andalou). The apartment was lovely and well equipped and kept cool during the day for respite from the heat. The little courtyard was very pleasant and has shade at certain times of day. The bed was one of the most comfortable we've ever slept on with a memory foam mattress! The apartment is very close to the city centre, everywhere was an easy walk including the Gate of Pomegranates for easy access to The Alhambra which is a stones throw away. There's no noisy traffic as it is only taxis and buses in that area and it's away from the street up some steep steps but otherwise accessible. It is a bit of a slog up the hill in the heat but it will keep you fit! Our hosts were very accommodating and allowed us to leave later than the normal check out time as we had flights later in the evening. This allowed us to have a relaxed last day of our holiday. We'd certainly recommend it as a good place to stay in Granada and would stay again if we came back to this area.

Location

From the Owner

Having decided that we wanted to move from London to Granada we couldn't believe our luck when Esperanza's brother sent us a photo of a dilapidated ruin at the foot of the Alhambra. We had wanted to live in the centre of the city, but to have found a property in this perfect position was more than we could have hoped for. Perched on the side of the Alhambra hill with views to the front overlooking the city, and behind us a green swathe of the Alhambra woods we couldn't have asked for more. Just pedestrian cobbled streets in the neighbourhood, which suits us fine. Bird song for car horns is our preference, yet in 5 minutes you are in the centre of the city with the necessary shops bars and restaurants. We renovated the house and had space for a ceramic workshop for Esperanza.

Nearest Airport : Granada Federico Garcia Lorca at 12 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Gran Taverna, Cuesta Gomerez at 350 Metres Nearest Train : Granada at 2 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : A.44 City Ring Road at 3 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Los Diamantes at 350 Metres Nearest Ski : Sierra Nevada at 40 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Salobreña at 70 Kilometres Car: not necessary

Coast/Beach:

Nearest beach at Salobreña, a 45 min drive. Other good beaches on Granada coast at Calahonda (1h15), sea fishing at Carchuna (1h10), scuba diving La Herradura (1h20). Best night-life found at Almuñecar (1h15)

If you have time, we highly recommend a 2 hour drive to the unspoilt beaches within the Natural Park area of "Cabo de Gata" in Almeria. Take refreshments with you to these beaches as the protected coastline has neither bars, shops or hotels. Accommodation easily found in nearby San Jose.

Travel:

Granada is NOT a car-friendly city! If you come by car we recommend using a car park for the duration of your stay, except for any trips to local beaches, mountains, villages etc. The carpark we recommend is close to the city ring road, and just a short taxi ride from the apartments. NOTE THAT THERE ARE NOW DIRECT FLIGHTS WITH B.A. FROM LONDON CITY AIRPORT TO GRANADA. Granada is nearest airport 25Km. Regular buses to centre or taxi (approx 25€). Malaga airport is 130Km. 1h 45min journey time.

For extra guests there is a charge of 15€ per extra person (half price children under 15) per night. Supplements apply at Easter. There are no additional costs to the prices quoted.

The apartments really do combine two apparently opposite characteristics. We are right in the historic centre of the city with bars and restaurants 5 minutes walk down the hill, yet at the same time we are tucked away in a quiet (and safe) traffic-free area. Three minutes walk up the hill brings you to the Alhambra woods with its running water, bird song, and deliciously cool respite from Granada's summer heat. You have absolute privacy during your stay, but we are on hand to help out in any way that we can. We want you to enjoy your stay here!!!
