About this property

Casa Bella Vista - Medieval House In Pigna

Charming medieval house with modern amenities, terrazzo and a spectacular view.

This 700-plus year old heritage house situated in the historical “carrugia” is well preserved while boasting superior modern amenities on all three floors. Three bedrooms (all with the same stunning view), three full bathrooms (one on each floor), fully equipped kitchen, living area and a generous terrazzo with its beautiful view make this the perfect vacation home for friends or families, or for a romantic getaway.

The main floor has a handsome vaulted wood ceiling over all rooms and French doors to the terrazzo. Enjoy the south-facing view of the village of Castelvittorio nestled in the Maritime Alps and watch activities in the village of Pigna cradled in the Nervia Valley by day or night. The stars are easily seen above on a clear night, and the Nervia River is in full view.

Our mattresses are premium quality, with queen size in two of the three bedrooms, and an option for two twin beds or one queen in the third bedroom on the ground floor. Our bathrooms all come equipped with shower facilities, and one includes a full bathtub/shower combination.

Sunbathe, nap and dine by day or night on the terrazzo with its motorized awning for shade or maximum sun. The gate-leg dining table can be rolled to the terrazzo for a large table setting, and with the suspended feel of our terrazzo, you may feel like you are dining in the sky! Wi-fi is available for leisure use.

The village offers several options for dining from casual food fare to pizza to Michelin rated dining, as well as several bars for afternoon aperitivos and evening gatherings, all within walking distance to Casabellavista. Many good hikes and walks are available, include to Mount Toraggio, as well as summer swimming in the local rockpools.

Only 20-40 minutes away by car you will find many beaches stretching from the Italian Riviera to the French Riviera - bellisima! Spend the day enjoying the beach and the Mediterranean Sea, dining in the seaside restaurants, and drive back to Pigna for a relaxing evening on the terrazzo. La Bella Vita!

The house provided plenty of space for 6 people and made for a relaxing and comfortable stay. The view from the terrace was superb and all in all we had a wonderful time.

Cosy and homely in a beautiful location
6 of us including teenagers and grandparents stayed at Casablanca Bella Vista for 3 nights. We loved Pigna and the surrounding area. We walked up to Castell Vittorio and to a rather underwhelming church above Buggio (the walk was ‘savage’ and views spectacular though.) Casa Bella Vista was charmingly compact and bijou. Definitely not suitable for those with mobility issues as there are steep steps up to it and it is arranged over 3 floors with the living area being on the top floor to make the most of the wonderful views. The owners were very responsive however we had to call the property manager to arrange to collect and drop the keys - she did not respond to our texts. We also had to wait 20 mins in a car park to get the keys. The local people were very friendly and we loved having a coffee while watching village life. We would love to return to the area in spring or autumn to walk more.

Casa Bella Vista Bellissima
We very much liked this home in the lovely medieval village of Pigna. Before arriving we were well prepared because we were familiar with the village but the owners also shared via email a detailed welcome packet containing details about the area, such as various attractions, great places to eat, where to get coffee while accessing wifi, where to buy wine, descriptions of neighboring hill towns and cities, etc, as well as details about the home. The home was as described and we found it to be well laid out with a sizable bedroom and bath on each of the three levels with a kitchen, living room and terrace on the top floor, the terrace offering an absolutely beautiful view of the valley and the neighboring hilltop town of Castelvittorio. The kitchen was well equipped to our satisfaction, though this being Italy, refrigerator and freezer space is somewhat limited. But...unless you plan to cook in every night, and why would you with so many nearby restaurants to choose from, a large refrigerator and freezer aren't really necessary. We had no problem. Beds were comfortable and furniture within bedrooms was suitable for our belongings. There was plenty of seating in the living room and the adjacent terrace, where a portable table could be moved to from the living room for dining outdoors, which we did. Admittedly, Pigna is a hill town and to move about the village via steps and ramps can be difficult for the physically challenged. I can attest to that, as I have two bad knees, but that didn't stop me from thoroughly enjoying the village and its surroundings. One criticism we had was that the home was not equipped with wifi, requiring a walk to the base of the village to one of the coffee shops/restaurants at any hour. Big however here, though. We hope to stay at Casa Bella Vista again in 2017, so we have already been in touch with the owners and they have informed us that wifi has been made available in the home. And I have to say that the owners could not have been nicer or more helpful. So would I recommend Casa Bella Vista to other travelers? Indeed I would!

FAMILY WEDDING IN PIGNA.
The web site was recommended by the brides family so we started to research and came across Casa Bella Vista which would be ideal for our family of six adults. Contact was made with the owners and our experience began. The accommodation was as described in the listing. We were all impressed with the renovation of this property which has been finished to a high quality. As we had family relatives who have properties in Pigna we soon visited all the immediate rock pools and experienced some fantastic restaurants. Meeting each morning for coffee and excellent pastries at the local cafe - patisserie, Desir De Roy, was in itself a wonderful experience. We had time to take the bus to Ventimiglia to experience the market and take in some refined products at reasonable prices. A visit to Dolceacqua is a must to see all the local architecture and experience a visit back in time. If we hadn't been at a family wedding I'm sure we could have experienced more of the local places of interest and developed our desire to return to Pigna as a base for more adventure. If we do return to Pigna I know of somewhere we could stay and feel comfortable to embark on our adventure from Casa Bella Vista, definitely a place with a view to reflect on a perfect holiday break. We will recommend this property to family and friends as a base to experience Italy as it should be seen.

Why they chose this property

After a couple of visits to Pigna, staying in the lovely home of friends, we became deeply attached to the village and the local residents, many of whom have since become friends. Although Pigna is off the beaten path of the high tourist areas (which are all easily travelled to from our home), we recognized its “magical” qualities and those of Liguria. Its location allows us to enjoy the authentic charm of Italy away from the hustle and bustle of more crowded areas. Without a doubt, it is our home away from home. Many of our guests who also recognize the special qualities of Pigna, have returned as our guests again. We consider that both a nod of approval and a compliment!

What makes this property unique

Nestled in the foothills of the Maritime Alps, our house enjoys a spectacular view of the Nervia Valley and Castelvittorio, the neighbouring medieval village perched on the hillside opposite. Only 20 minutes away is the Italian Riviera, including the seaside towns of Ventimiglia, Bordighera and Sanremo, and several Mediterranean beaches from which to choose. Minutes away from Ventimiglia is the French border. Directly across the border is the beautiful Menton, first stop on the French Riviera. Year-round activities are available: e.g., hiking, skiing, cycling, swimming, “spa-ing”, and so much more. But if sitting on the terrace with a cappuccino or a glass of vino is as active as you want, our terrazzo is the perfect place to be!
