About the Owner

We have lived here in this idyllic area of Southern Burgundy for 22 years restoring our 19th Century Farmhouse. We have also been successfully running our own business of home and garden maintenance in this area, but we are both now enjoying retirement. We have been renting our Gite for 10 years and it is still proving very popular with couples who enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside.

We are now approaching Spring 2016 and we appear as popular as ever. With many rebookings we are more than happy to welcome previous visitors and even more delighted to welcome new ones.

Perfect peaceful retreat

  • 4 of 5

Perfect tranquil locaton. The gite is well equipped and spotlessly clean. Staying in the Autumn resulted in cosy evenings spent in front of the log burning stove drinking local wine.

Went for long walks following the yellow signs dotted around the countryside, visited local villages and restaurants. A visit to the cattle market which is held every Wednesday at St Christophe-en-Brionaiss is a must.

But most of all our hosts were wonderful making this a very special place indeed. This is our second visit and will be looking forward to returning.

Owner's Response: It delights us no end when our guests submit a glowing report. Even more so when folk return, and they do frequently, because not only does it prove our gite is well presented, but they enjoy the peace and tranquility on offer. We can say with hand on heart that no one has ever been disappointed. Next year we will celebrate 10 years of offering a holiday destination. Ann & James

Tranquil gite in a perfect rural setting

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful spacious gite, the best thoughtfully-equipped and beautifully finished gite we have ever stayed in. Ann and James made us feel really valued and welcome, sharing their "home" with us, and meeting some of their visiting family.

Great option of shade terrace for late afternoon meals, then sun terrace for early evening relaxing. Lovely cool and spacious bedroom, nice kitchen to cook charolais beef with so much fresh and tasty produce, and of course some nice burgundy. Great location, close to so many interesting churches, castles, pretty towns and beautiful rolling countryside. Useful washing machine which has become a booking essential for us. We enjoyed treating ourselves to the set lunch at Frederic Doucet's Hotel de la Poste. We enjoyed the "bovine soap opera" going on in front of us. Weather was kind and we had a wonderful relaxing stay, thank you.

A lovely gite with wonderful countryside views

  • 5 of 5

Had a great time watching deer, cattle and woodpeckers over breakfast. The accommodation was perfect and Ann and James were very welcoming. In the vicinity there are some good cycling routes along the canals and old railway lines. We intend to return.

Charming Gite with Beautiful Views

  • 5 of 5

We were delighted with the excellent and spacious accommodation for two people and two private outside sitting areas. The owners Ann and James were most welcoming and hospitable. The restoration of the property reflected their attention to detail.

John & Margaret

The area is well suited to cycling and walking and the nearby town of Charolles provides shopping and other facilities.

a tranquil haven

  • 5 of 5

We have just spent the most lovely week at Le Bois de Velle, and LOVED it. It was the most well equipped gite we have stayed in over the past 5 years - spotlessly clean and well put together, and the hosts Ann and James are a smashing couple. It is tranquil, and seems so off the beaten track, yet everything you need (local town Charolles) is but a 10 minute car journey away, relaxing terraces outside, with a choice of full sun or shade - we needed it at 35 degrees plus! cannot fault it, the only downside was a one week stay, we were so sad to leave.............

Location

From the Owner

We came to visit friends one year and fell in love with the area. We purchased Le Bois de la Velle in 1989 and have never looked back. We love the quiet rural way of life in this delightful part of France.

Facilities

From the Owner

The Gite is in a beautiful and tranquil setting. The fields usually contain the Charollais cattle, for which this area is famous. Although the Gite is hidden away, the approach road is fully tarmaced. The only other building which is close belongs to the owners in residence.
