Overview

About the property

La Buia Villa in Umbria near Lippiano - Tuscany/Umbria border. Tranquil with Unspoiled Views, a true gem hidden away in Umbria's back pock e

La Buia is a beautiful restored hillside tobacco tower villa, situated in virtually unspoiled Umbrian countryside off the Tiber valley between Monte Santa Maria Tiberina, Lippiano and Monterchi.

The villa with tower has been lovingly restored 5 years ago. The stone built barn with tower attached and new wing is a stunning piece of restoration work. Views across the most beautiful small valley in Umbria are ravishing. A door leads off a gallery above the sitting room over a little bridge to the swimming pool. A pretty landscaped terrace begins just outside the dinning room/kitchen door where table and chairs are for eating al fresco under a heather clad gazebo.

The house is decorated with flair using Italian furnishings, preserving the character of the old building with beautiful beamed ceilings, terracotta tiles creating an extremely attractive and well equipped family house.

A bedroom is a sanctuary and so always a priority on ones list when you travel. The master bedroom is a restful green with 3 picture windows drawing the eye out to amazing scenery. State of the art chandelier and marble topped side tables adorn the room with airy muslin blowing gently across the tall windows giving a relaxing feel at first glance.

Up through double doors is the top bedroom hidden away in a private world. We call this room 'The Rossini room'. It is painted a tuscan red/orange with a traditional white margin. The bathroom is small but intimate. There is a small balcony with stairs going down to the private entrance door of this charming 'studio' bedroom. On the ground floor is the Puccini bedroom, in charcoal, pink beige & cream. Elegant and Italian.

The large galleried sitting room is original and wonderful to be in, with doors leading out to the pool. A slick Italian kitchen with dinning room and garden beyond is very much an integral part of this exciting house, full of warm light with an island hob and breakfast bar with stools.

Directly outside the kitchen is a very attractive small terrace with garden armchairs, sofa and coffee table. A sun umbrella gives shade. Handy for dashing into the kitchen to check your cooking.

The comments book in the villa is a great read with wonderful messages left from appreciative holiday makers. Lucie and her husband Richard will sometimes invite their staying guests in the Tobacco Barn to dinner on their beautiful shady terrace. Why Richard Shelbourne chose Citta di Castello area

Buying a house in Umbria was the nearest thing to stepping back to the countryside of my childhood. The spring and summer months are very beautiful with the fire flies appearing in early June. The rest of the year brings its own specialness

Everything is easily accessible from where the house is situated and at the same time there is an element of seclusion.A perfect combination. The luxury of the unspoilt countryside all around and the birds in the canopy of the woods near by, singing their hearts out make the experience unforgettable. Everyone comments on the beautiful area round the swimming pool where grape vines loaded with fruit and flowers spill from terracotta pots at the edge of the sparkling water. The moment you arrive you can start the relaxation process; a dip in the pool with a glass of chilled prosecco before a sumptuous dinner overlooking the valley with the distant lights of Monte Santa Maria twinkling in the sky above and the sounds of un-spoilt Umbria around you.

What makes this villa unique

Guests benefit from the element of luxury which make this villa stand out above all others which often have inexpensive furniture in them and non matching knives and forks. Horrors! Knowing that high profile guests have stayed before you and relishing the thick fluffy towels, expensive soaps, tasteful decor, art work and hand made top quality mattresses, all help make visitors feel good. There are travertine work surfaces in the kitchen and a champagne bucket for celebrations. Fabrics sourced in Florence and Arezzo, keeping the atmosphere of the villa Italian throughout. Herbs grow in the garden for use in cooking delicious food in the slick Italian country kitchen. Sometimes zucchini are also ripe and ready to gather.
