Mountain villa totally rebuilt to modern standards in traditional 'Bovec' style. In village of Pluzna, 2.5 km from Bovec, the tourist and sports centre at the top of the beautiful Soca valley. 10 mins drive to the cable car to Mount Kanin ski centre. (NB the cable car is currently under repair. Expected to be functioning again for the 2015/2016 winter season. Views of Bovec basin and the surrounding mountains. Walking, rafting, fishing, mountain biking, skiing, hang-gliding, rock-climbing. Exquisite countryside surrounds house. Virje waterfall 8 mins walk. Boca waterfall 12 mins drive.

Owned by an English grown up family - we have all stayed in the house many times since the reconstruction was finished late in 2009 We absolutely love it, and would stay here all the time if we didn't all have to work in London!

Why Mrs Sheila Knight chose Slovenia

We had read about the 'undiscovered' beauty of the Julian Alps and the Soca Valley. An English friend of ours working with a Slovene company told us of the Euro-fuelled investment going into the Bovec area - including the new ski link to Italy. Once we had visited the area we fell in love with it and the people. The scenery is breathtaking, and Bovec, 2.5km away, provides all the facilities a visitor would need. Restaurant food is excellent and varied, drawing on Italian, Austrian and Serbian cuisine.

We were very lucky to find this particular house in Pluzna - both for the location and the house's potential. We have completely reconstructed it in the traditional style - only the original walls remain - and have finished it to the highest international standards as a luxury house.

What makes this villa unique

Close access to the Triglav National Park (5 km) with its mountain drives and walks, Soca River for rafting, fishing and gorgeous views (3km), restaurants in Bovec (2.5 km), cable car access to the famous Kanin ski centre (3 km), local walks and views (eg the Virje waterfall and the Gljun River source - 8 mins walk from the house, Boca Waterfall - 3km), absolute silence in the village apart from birdsong and the adjacent stream - the road is a cul de sac; marvellous views upon the Kanin massif from the huge west balcony of the house, temperatures often in the 30's in summer. Slovene wine - another undiscovered secret for Brits - Slovenia does not export much wine being a small country - but the tradition goes back to the Romans - and all wines are very palatable.

Notes on accommodation: Air conditioning is not necessary - the house is highly insulated, and designed to keep cool in summer and warm in winter. The house has been reconstructed and furnished to provide a stylish and comfortable house principally intended for adults. There are some features that may not be suitable for young children - we can provide further information. This is a non-smoking house. Outside: Quarter of an acre private garden. Covered eating area with barbecue to seat 8. Large paved patio on south side of house. Orchard. Private drive with parking for up to 5 cars. Garden bench, 2 matching chairs, 6 sun loungers. Separate road access direct to ground floor ski equipment room. Utility Room: Bosch washing machine, tumble dryer, ironing board, iron, airing rack, huge ceramic sink with spray fitting. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen included. Cleaned Saturday and midweek. Linen changed once a week. Additional laundry or cleaning can be arranged through the local house manager. Other: Billiard room with 6ft pool table and CD/MP3 player; drinks fridge with ice tray, ski and mountaineering equipment and drying room.

Pluzna is in the Julian Alps. It is 2 hours drive to the Mediterranean coast.


A car is essential. There are no trains to Bovec, and buses are few. Nearest airports are Ljubljana (2h), Venice (2h 20m), Trieste (1.5h), Klagenfurt (2h - but passes may be closed at times in winter). The nearest regular train stations are at Gorizia (Italy - 1h 30m) and Udine (Italy 1h 30m).


Bovec 2.5 km - a pretty town with tourist facilities and some very good restaurants. Kobarid 20 min drive - centre of WWI history - with war museum, history trail and a great monument to Italian fallen. Also a spectacular gorge and some excellent restaurants. Up river from Bovec you reach the Kluze fort, and the great peaks of Mangrt and Triglav with mountain walks for all levels of ability. The Soca river, turquoise and magical runs through everything.

Further Details:

The Soca river is a great centre for white water rafting, kayaking and canyoning. There are local specialist shops that take care of everything. They also hire mountain bikes and arrange rock climbing courses. There is a small airport in the Bovec basin providing glider trips. The Soca river has a great reputation for trout fishing - permits are necessary, obtainable from the Alp Hotel in Bovec.
