Cottage in Portland, nr Weymouth, Dorset - Quiet road, only 4-5 mins walk to the beach/coastal path and 10-15 to WPNSA

Spinnaker House is a Victorian cottage situated on a quiet road and only 5 minutes walk to the beach, local shops, cafe, supermarket, pubs and restaurants.

Key features include: fully refurbished and constantly refreshed and maintained to a high standard, very well-equipped, centrally heated, clean, comfortable and relaxing accommodation, TV with Freeview, DVD and radio/CD/iPod dock, free WIFI, fan, sunny garden with sea and hill views.

Plenty of drying space for sailors, on-street parking, normally right outside the house, modern, well-equipped kitchen and a secure means of storing bicycles and windsurfing gear.

Beds are made up ready for your arrival (with good quality bedding) so all you have to do is unpack and enjoy yourselves. Just step outside the front or back doors and you are faced with wonderful sea and hill views.

Spinnaker House makes a perfect base for year round holidays on this beautiful stretch of Dorset Coast with lovely outdoor space to sit on warm evenings and cosy and warm after a brisk walk on the beach in winter (we have very effective central heating).

About Lesley

We spend a lot of time at the seaside as we can as we love dinghy sailing and windsurfing. In fact when we are not close to the sea we sail and windsurf on a lake near home, in all weathers and throughout the year.

We purchased Spinnaker House in 2007 as we saw it as an opportunity to spend more time at the coast. In the early summer of 2010 we put the house on the holiday market and spent several months lovingly refurbishing and furnishing the house, so everything is new. We have received great reviews since our first booking at the end of May 2010 and continue to make minor and major improvements all the time to keep the place fresh, clean and inviting.

Spinnaker House is a bit of a passion for us and we are always updating and cleaning to keep the house comfortable for guests so that the time they spend there is a home from home by this sea.

Why Lesley chose Portland

We purchased the property because we love sailing, windsurfing and simply being by the sea and because we can be on the beach in just 5 minutes! I particularly love Dorset, from it's empty coastline towards Lyme Regis to it's busier beaches. I love the area around the house in Fortuneswell; just wandering up and down the narrow roads and alleys as every twist and turn provides new vistas of the sea and coastline. It is a quirky sort of place and that adds to the interest for me, ranging from the wild seas of Portland Bill to the safe sailing area in the Harbour. Martyn likes to get out windsurfing as often as he can while I half-heartedly tip-toe onto my windsurf board.

What makes this house unique

Convenience of the property to both the beach and local amenities, proximity to WPNSA and lovely walks around the area and access to the whole of Dorset.. The house is like we have transported the comfort of our own home to the seaside and can relax the minute we step through the door. It is only 5 minutes walk from Chesil Beach and less than 15 to the Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy. It is warm, comfortable and tastefully furnished, without being pretentious. We invest a lot of time maintaining the house and keeping the decoration fresh and clean. In 2011 we had a new boiler fitted and the house is even more warm and comfortable in winter, 2012 we re-floored all the downstairs and 2013 re-floored the bathroom and further redecoration. Each year we refresh all the decoration to ensure the house is in the best condition for our guests.

An added bonus for clients is being able to check emails on our free WIFI.

Notes on accommodation: Fully inclusive price includes: WiFi, power, central heating, hot water and bed linen. Please ask if you require towels. Choice of duvet weight - either 4.5 or 10 tog. Plenty of drying space for those taking part in water sports and outside tap to wash sailing gear. We accept children of all ages, as long as they are supervised and one small dog out of peak season. Books, DVDs, CDs, board games, jigsaws and folder of tourist, local information and walks available for guest use. We supply information in advance of arrival on restaurants in the area in case you wish to book that special meal and when you arrive, there is lots of information of things to do in the area. Outside: Sunny garden with sea glimpses and hill views; raised decked patio, flower border, table and chairs for 6, ready for al-fresco drink or meals while the sun sets. Small barbeque provided. Outside tap to wash sailing gear or muddy wellies! Access to back lane to enable cycles, windsurf boards, etc to be brought into the garden and safely stored. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Good-quality bed linen included and beds made up ready for your arrival. House cleaned and beds changed between guests or weekly for longer stays. Choice of 4.5 or 10 tog duvets. Towels offered for a small additional charge.

Lovely well equipped house

We had 5 nights here. It is a very comfy well equipped house. Perfect for what we needed. Very clean with extra little touches such as coffee and tea provided, milk in the fridge and fresh flowers.

Exactly what was needed for a comfortable family holiday. Excellent chip shop (Daniels) and Co-op less than 5 minute walk. Perfect beach for dog walking 10 minutes away. Exploring Portland more interesting and bigger than expected. Loved Chesil Beach and Chesil Cove. Easy access to Weymouth and surrounding area. Dorset cream teas amongst the best in Abbotsbury Tea Rooms.

Lovely, well-equipped house to stay in

We had a lovely week in Spinnaker House. It's very comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. Parking on the road outside could sometimes be a challenge, but we always found space for at least one of our two cars.

5 minutes walk from Chesil Beach, the famous 17 mile stretch of pebble beach on the Jurassic Coast. Walking distance to Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy. A few minutes to the Dorset Coastal Path and the famous Portland Railway Walk.

We are at the beginning of Chesil Beach so from here there are miles of lovely walks and beautiful scenery to enjoy.

Take the A364 from Weymouth to Portland, a journey of approximately 4.5 miles.

By Train:

Trains depart London Waterloo twice an hour for Weymouth, which is approximately 4.5 miles away.

By Air

The nearest airports are Bournemouth and Southampton.

Local Transpot:

Local buses will drop you at the top of the road. Local taxis are also available from Weymouth train station


12-15 minutes walk to Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy.

4.5 miles drive or bus to Weymouth town centre.

Five minute walking distance to beach, local cafes and supermarket and only 8 minutes walk to good quality restaurant and beach walk to the Cove Inn pub right on Chesil Beach looking west for beautiful sunsets.

A perfect location for walking, diving clubs locally, fishing off the beach, sailing and windsurfing at Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy, kite surfing in the harbour, cycling, climbing clubs locally.

Abbotsbury Swannery and Lyme Regis are just a few miles along the coastal road.

Mosaic workshops are available during the summer at Whitestones Cafe in Easton.

A booking may be secured by making a deposit of £125. PLEASE NOTE, if you wish to pay by Paypal this will incur a 3% surcharge. Please contact us to discuss methods of payment before you do so.

Final balance is due 6 weeks before the date of arrival, together with £150 refundable security deposit which is normally refunded within 18 days of departure, subject to breakages.

Changeover Day:
During peak periods our changeover day is Saturday, arriving after 2.30pm and leaving by 10 am please. Out of peak periods we offer short breaks from Fridays or Saturdays, although we can be flexible with last minute bookings.

Notes on prices:
Prices between £350 and £840 for 7 nights with no hidden extras; to include all amenities including gas central heating, power, WIFI, good quality bed linen, beds made up ready for your arrival, kitchen essentials and cleaning.

Talk to us about last-minute or couples only breaks. Our refundable security deposit is £150.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
