About The Owner

Our family home has been in the Tarn for over 12 years, our 13 year old daughter has grown up a proper little Franglais, and we really enjoy our life here. It is beautiful countryside, and family life is key to everything, but more than anything there is a feeling of space and freedom. In 2003 my husband Steve and I decided to invest in a property near our home that we could use to entertain friends and family, and also let out. We have really enjoyed greeting people at Estaviale, and have made many friends of people who return to us year on year. It is great to share our joy in the area, the house we have lovingly restored and all the wildlife and flowers that abound in the pastures and woods around Estaviale. We watch people unwind from their busy lives as we did all those years ago.

The Owner purchased this farmhouse in 2003

Why The Owner chose Tarn

Our vision was to find a traditional stone house in need of renovation, in a beautiful spot. When we saw Estaviale we appreciated it had huge potential. It was then a run down farm, sitting on a hillside beside Castelnau de Montmiral, 10 minutes drive from our home, and within easy reach of Gaillac and the motorway. The location is fantastic, with wonderful views to three sides, the grounds include flower filled meadows, woodlands and a large lake. We knew we had to have it, even if there was a lot of work to be done on the house. When we had finished the renovation and installed the beautiful swimming pool, we felt so proud of what we had achieved, we now have a house that is worthy of its wonderful location, and can offer our visitors a special holiday.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Estaviale is secluded without being isolated, you enjoy privacy whilst being close to the village of Castelnau de Montmiral, which is 5 minutes in the car or half an hours walk away. The village has a grocer, baker, bistro and restaurant, and hosts a pretty market in the square on Tuesdays. It is right in the heart of the historic bastide villages and on the wine trail, making it an ideal centre for discovering the area. It is only 10 minutes drive away from the supermarkets and other amenities of Gaillac and access to the Motorway. The extensive grounds give older children the freedom to roam and explore. The hillside position means the house catches all the sunshine, it has 5 sets of french windows, which gives it a light and airy feeling often lost in traditional stone houses.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We stayed as a party of 8 (4 adults and 4 children 10-12).Although we had seen photos and read info on the websites I have to say the place is even better then the photos portray (and that is saying something as it looks fab on the website)

The house is spacious and in the main generously equipped. It has ample accommodation and rustic charm via simply decorated rooms, the majority of which all have good views over the countryside.

All in all Estaviale is a great base for exploring the surrounding area whether it be the vineyards that abound, or the nearby historical towns.Steve & Sally are very helpful with any advice and make you feel comfortable knowing that they are on hand if needed, but otherwise they are far from intrusive................

A stunning property in a fantastic location

  • 5 of 5

We spent a wonderful week enjoying the house at the wonderful region of the Tarn. The property is on the edge of the golden triangle between Albi, Cordes and Gaillac which is also known as Little Tuscany!

The house has everything anyone would need and is very competitively priced. The grounds and lake are breathtaking.

The owners are delightful and although we did not require any help, we very approachable.

Fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

This was our third stay in this lovely house and superb location. The peace, tranquility and views are just wonderful. The supermarket is within very easy reach at Gaillac and the communications are excellent with both our young adult offspring joining us for some of our stay (two years running) by arriving at Gaillac train station.

The walking in this region is also fabulous - rolling countryside, well- marked paths and rarely encountering other walkers! Walk guides are easily available at Gaillac Office de Tourisme.

Highly recommended - I can confirm all the other superlative reviews!

Paradise Rebooked

  • 5 of 5

I was just rebooking Domaine Estaviale and searched for my review of last year's stay. I didn't do one! Remiss because this is a cracker. I came with my fiancé, now wife, last August/September for two weeks with my mum and the out-laws. Fabulous weather and the pool was well used. The house is very comfortable with loads of land to walk across in a balmy evening. With deer grazing in the valleys. You don't need to go anywhere but the supermarket. However if you want to then this is a perfect base for sightseeing. Country roads, take me home!

Stunning

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week in this wonderful house - we were rather spoilt because it was just the two of us but clearly a magnificent setting for a larger party which we anticipate for our next visit. The accommodation was clean, spacious and stylish and we wanted for nothing. The average temperature for the entirety of our stay was 36 degrees c - so we spent little time indoors but were very grateful for the exclusive use of the private pool. The property is situated on the shoulder of two valleys both of which provide long dreamy views away from every distraction save the occasional tractor as it brings in the harvest. In fact the unique feature of this property is that it is set in a large acreage of rolling private land well away from the road and other dwellings. It is truly private. We ate almost all our meals outside admiring the view. On the western horizon is the village of Castelnau de Montmiral to which we walked one morning across the fields and through the lanes for lunch. We also took advantage of the lovely well stocked fishing lake - we both caught fish and enjoyed the quiet tranquillity of fishing in the evening as the sun set and the fish rose. We cannot praise this property highly enough. Sally and Steve were generous and discreet hosts and we are more than happy to recommend this property for those seeking a peaceful well appointed location to stay and laze or to travel a little farther afield to places such as Albi and Cordes Sur Ciel. We came for a week, would happily have stayed for two and shall certainly return.

The best holiday house you will ever stay in.

  • 5 of 5

The owners undersell this gem, and they certainly over-deliver. Kind, charming, unobtrusive, knowledgeable and available. Great to know. Breathtaking views, extensive grounds, fantastic fishing and a beautiful and perfectly maintained house and pool in one of Europe's most stunning regions. Every facility that you will need and more. We've been visiting France since 1962, individually and then as a couple and then as a family, owned property here, stayed with friends here and rented holiday homes here. This is the best we have ever stayed in, or are ever likely to stay in, anywhere. You may have gathered that we love it! That's why we keep coming back.

Ideal French Rural Property

  • 5 of 5

Facilities were even better than described. Furnished and equipped as if it was owner's home. Easily and comfortably accommodates 8. Plenty of cooking utensils and crockery.

Owners very keen to make your stay enjoyable, living not far away.

The location is absolutely beautiful. Stunning view of Castenau and surrounding countryside. Fantastic sunsets..

Large grounds are full of wildflowers and birds. Interesting walks both around the property and within easy reach.

Pool has excellent shallow area for children, and deep end which allows for diving.

Small supermarket 5 minutes drive. Large Leclerc just 15 minutes.

Easy reach of Albi, Cordes de Ceil, and Bruniquel, all outstanding towns and villages.
