Holiday Home in Wadebridge, Cornwall - Quiet Location 2 Minutes From Wadebridge Town Centre

A 3-bedroom newly refurbished house with off-street parking for 2 cars and roof terrace with views to the river Camel. In a quiet location close to the centre of Wadebridge. The nearest beach is 5 miles away at Rock on the Camel estuary. Several golf courses within a 10 mile radius. The historic harbour town of Padstow is 8 miles away. There are magnificent cliff walks and innumerable coves and bays to explore all along this stunning coastline. Plenty of activities for children including horse-riding, cycle trails and surf schools.

About Andy Herbert

We have loved the South West and Cornwall in particular since our very first visit in the 1980s. We used to come here every summer for family camping holidays when the kids were small. It seems inevitable that we would end up buying a property here.

Why Andy Herbert chose North Cornwall

We bought this house in Wadebridge in 2003. We liked Wadebridge because of its location on the river Camel. It isn't as as crowded or busy as some of the resorts on the coast but the nearest beaches are only 15 minutes by car. In 2010 the whole family completely refurbished the house and added a roof terrace overlooking the river Camel.

What makes this house unique

We love to sit on the roof terrace and watch the tide ebb and flow on the river Camel. The town centre is a 2 minute walk away across the river which is very convenient for shopping or going out in the evenings. One of our favourite beaches at New Polzeath is only a 15 minute drive away.

Outside: Patio doors from the dining area lead to a large roof terrace with table and chairs and views to the river Camel. The main bedroom has patio doors leading to a small patio with outdoor furniture. Parking: Outside the property is a block paved area where you can park up to two vehicles. The property is located in a private courtyard with access via an alleyway which in true Cornish style narrows to 2.3 metres wide at one point. The other residents of the courtyard (one of whom has a 4x4), ourselves (we regularly drive a transit size van up) and 99% of visitors have never had an issue but we have had one client mention the gap as a problem in the past so this might be something to consider when booking the property. Utility Room: Washing machine. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and bedlinen are included. The property is cleaned at the end of a booking. Other: The property features a heat recovery/ventilation system and wifi internet access

Excellent location!

This property is in a wonderful location, only a short drive to many local places (Padstow, Polzeath, Port Isaac, Rock and so many more!) as well as handy to all the shops and facilities in town. Perfect if you want to head out along the Camel Trail in either direction on bikes or foot.

Great place for kids - 2 different playgrounds within 500m. Bedroom configuration works well for families, along with the two bathrooms.

We loved the living area, which allowed everyone their own area if needed, but to be still all together.

Owners are friendly and always helpful if needed. Property was clean and well maintained. We would definitely recommend this property to family and friends.

Cornwall is one of our favourite places to visit (we love the Coast paths and all the outdoor areas to explore). We would definitely stay here again if we are back in Cornwall.

Property was as advertised and met our expectations

We liked the upside down living. Everything needed for our stay was in the property and loved the decking area. The narrow alley way that led to the house was very snug in our vehicle. Perfect position for town and camel trail.

A lovely place in a great location

We all loved our stay at Camel Prospect. It's very homely and a perfect place to come back to after a day of activities. Great location if you want to explore Cornwall and also plenty of shops/restaurants nearby.

The place was clean and the kitchen well equipped. My kids enjoyed the surround sound system- perfect for a movie night.

The owner was quick to respond and friendly when we needed something.

We would definitely use the same property next time we visit Cornwall.

Would have liked more chairs on the terrace to enjoy the lovely view.

A cosy yet contemporary house in an ideal location.

The house was perfect; modern stylish, & with a little patio/balcony on which to enjoy the evening sun with a view of the River Camel.

The location so near to the town with all amenities meant we could leave the cars on several days, walk the Camel Trail or catch buses off to the coast to walk the Coast Path. The owners were extremely helpful & their recommendation of the nearby pub made our evening out an easy & excellent choice. Certainly a house to enjoy coming back to.

Well presented charming property in the heart of Wadebridge

Wonderful stay, great to see Cornwall in the Winter season. Weather wasn't great but still managed some lovely cliff walks, Pentire Headland at Polzeath has some beautiful views. The house was really comfortable and welcoming, great to come back to after embracing the elements. Ideal location for the town and Camel Trail which we'll be back to explore further on another visit. Loved the open plan living area which is bright and airy with plenty of space. Would highly recommend a stay at this property, it's a great base for exploring Cornwall.

Great potential, but not relaxing in its current form

This property has a perfect location just over the bridge from Wadebridge town centre, and within walking distance of the bike hire shops for the Camel Trail. It’s also close to the A39. The owner answered all questions quickly and helpfully before our holiday.

The property is light and airy in the upper living quarters, and has a wonderful terrace overlooking the river. Overall, the property enjoys a delightful situation which made us smile when we arrived.

However, there are several issues which made us cut short our stay and go home. First is the access – through a tiny gap between houses that was millimetres wider than our car. Then there was the smell on arrival, a damp mustiness that never left the sleeping quarters downstairs, and after a few days, the damp was starting to build up in our clothes. For some reason, there is no iron or ironing board.

Unfortunately, this property is not relaxing or comfortable. The settee was well past its best before date, as were the beds. Both larger beds were uncomfortable, and the master bed was far too close to the wall. Not only was the settee uncomfortable, it was tiny. In fact, if you have more than two guests, there is nowhere comfortable to relax at the end of a long day out.

Sleeping in the second bedroom is made almost impossible by some sort of air blower which makes as much noise as a car idling outside, and can’t be turned off. The shower, although hot and well powered, is tiny.

For half of the guests, the property is seriously under-resourced. There is nowhere to put anything down in the bathrooms, and nowhere to do hair or makeup – no chest of drawers, nothing.

Owner's Response: Hi Adrian, from the sounds of your review our holiday home was definitely not your cup of tea which is a big shame and we're really sorry to hear that. If you had contacted us rather than heading home early we might have been able to help you enjoy your stay here more. There is so much you seemed to find disagreeable with the place, even to the point of the way the furniture is laid out, that it is hard to respond to it all. Some things, like explaining where the iron is kept or showing you how to turn off the Heat Recovery Ventilation System at night would have only taken a phone call. We specifically leave a phone number in our welcome notes in case we can be of any help during your stay. The entrance way to the private courtyard is narrow but the trade off is a wonderfully quiet courtyard, with private parking outside the house, and just a two minute walk to the town centre. There are other residents living in the courtyard who regularly drive a 4 x 4 up to their house without any problems. As for a lot of the other feedback, I can say that we've never ever had any mention of damp - in fact the ventilation system we have in the house makes sure this is not an issue here. As for uncomfortable beds or sofas, I don't think that's a fair comment either. We've had a lot of visitors to the house over the last few years and nearly all of our guests have had nothing but kind words to say about their holidays here and we have many repeat visitors each year. The review system on Owners Direct means that you are more than entitled to leave such a negative appraisal of our holiday property but I don't feel it is a fair reflection of the house and I'm just sorry that you didn't give us the chance to help out with some of the issues you were having before you decided to write it.
