About Jim Makinson

My wife, Sally, and I bought Ardbrecknish House in Scotland in 2005 after 25 years of dairy farming in Warwickshire, England. We both enjoy helping people make the most out of their holiday with us if it is suggesting where to go on day trips or where to see wildlife and birds. We chose to come to Ardbrecknish as it stands on the banks of Loch Awe, one of the most accessible yet natural lochs in Scotland where we are able to live life in peace and quiet surrounded by outstanding natural beauty. We also enjoy providing the locals with a friendly bar which acts as a focal point for them, fishermen and visitors alike.

We have been at Ardbrecknish for ten years now and have enjoyed every minute. We feel that we have greatly improved the property but we are always open to suggestions.

Why Jim Makinson chose Scotland

Having spent several years visiting the area on holiday we appreciated it's natural beauty. Although seemingly remote it is easily accessible. Glasgow airport is only an hour and a half away. Oban is 40 minutes. Ardbrecknish House dates back to the early 16th century and is steeped in history and folk lore.

What makes this house unique

Wide open spaces, walking distance of Loch Awe and the boat hire. Friendly bar and restaurant on-site. Family friendly and total peace and quiet with easy access to Inveraray, Oban, Mull and Glen Coe.
