The Lamp House sits at the edge of Porthleven right above the water on a quiet coastal road on the route to Loe Bar, the largest fresh water lake in Cornwall.

The house has been recently decorated and is beautifully furnished and equipped to the highest standards. It has a bright open plan sitting room/dining room/kitchen on the first floor, with glorious views from the four large picture windows. Sitting at the dining table on the comfortable window seats you can spend hours reading and watching the world go by below or enjoying a glass of wine as the sun sets. Ideal for families, friends and couples alike we hope you will love the Lamp House as much as we do.

Jane and Andy Colman. We are a family of five from Caterham in Surrey with two daughters and one son. We love our family holidays at the Lamp House, as do our parents and friends who love it for the peace and tranquility of the place.

Notes on accommodation: We want your stay to be as comfortable as possible, and we know that the little things matter. So, all the beds are finished with quality John Lewis pocket-sprung mattresses, with a choice of feather and down summer (4.5 tog) and winter (9.5 tog) duvets, both feather and fibre pillows, and cotton linen. There is a hair dryer in Bedroom 1. The house has private parking for one car as well as free street parking right outside for a second car. Travel cot, high chair and stair gate. No smoking though. Fibre internet / WiFi. Smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarms fitted. Outside: Through the stable door in the kitchen you reach a sheltered and private rear wooden deck with small terraced flower and herb garden for outside dining and relaxation. Bedlinen, hand and T-towels (but not bath towels) included in the rental. The house will be immaculately clean on your arrival. End of stay cleaning included in the rental. One small dog welcome at £25 per week.

Lovely home overlooking the ocean.

A very clean and fully equipped home with everything you need for a week or two in Cornwall's Lizard area. It's a pleasant and easy walk down into the village or off across the coastal path to Loe Bar and beyond. There was a bit of mix up with the towels (we didn't know we had to bring them) but the hosts came to our rescue and very graciously provided them, so all in all we were very happy here.

Lovely house with fantastic views

Wow, what great views. It was beautiful sunshine when we arrived however within hours we were watching the waves crashing below as a storm came in. The kids said it was better than tv and sat glued to the windows. Oh yes, the house is lovely too. Very comfortable sofas and beds. Kitchen had everything we needed. Great location, loved not having to drive to go out for dinner/go to the shops and the walk over to Loe Bar is stunning.

Well maintained, comfortable and great location.

This cottage exceeded our expectations and the photos do not do it justice. Upstairs wow, what a view! Spent many hours watching the sea, the comings and goings of mounts bay and the walkers. The furniture is quality and comfortable, the living area spacious and the kitchen is well equipped.

Downstairs, very comfortable beds with fluffy marshmallow bedding provided a good nights sleep after all of our day trips.

Debbie, the cleaner, had the cottage immaculate upon our arrival and as we had the cottage for 2 weeks she arrived with fresh linens after the first week.

Owners Jame and Andy, promptly answered all of our questions before our arrival.

The location was perfect, far enough from the harbour so for it to be quiet and not bothered by all of the tourist but close enough for it to be a few minutes stroll to restaurants and shops etc.

Porthleven itself is a small community with several good restaurants a couple of pubs and a few shops, it is well positioned to explore western Cornwall. We went on multiple day trips as far up as Tintagle, all within an hrs drive and there is lots to see and do within 30 mins drive. My favourite thing to do was walk the costal paths, with spectacular views and scenery on every turn - bring your camera!

If We were to return to this area of the country would we stay at lamphouse? Definately!

A pleasure to walk in to!

First impressions were that we had made an excellent choice in booking the Lamp House and after a week we knew we were right!

The property delivered on all levels. It was spotlessly clean. The bedroom furniture, beds and linen were of high quality. Bathrooms and shower worked well and first time without any need for adjustment.

Upstairs, the living area was just as shown in the listing. The views were fantastic and the sofas really comfortable. The Kitchen equipment was great and it was well equipped with all the crockery, glasses tools and saucepans you could need.

Porthleven and the Lamp House is a great place for a relaxing holiday.

We would strongly recommend this property.

Short Weekend with Friends

Our second stay here and we will definitely be back. What a fabulous spot with views to die for. I could spend all day with a cup of coffee looking at the sea, whatever the weather! The Lamp House is perfect, very comfortable with superb facilities and all of the things that make a break/holiday relaxing and enjoyable. The property was beautifully clean on our arrival, the beds were very comfortable with lovely soft white bed linen and fluffy towels. The local area is wonderful with so much to do. We parked our car and walked the whole weekend! Some lovely restaurants, Sea Drift is lovely and managed to buy several Christmas presents, even though it is only March; the shops are unusual and have some lovely gifts.

Would definitely recommend the house, the area and the view!

Location

Car: necessary

Porthleven lies to the south of Helston. It can be easily reached from Newquay airport where you can hire a car. Trains from London stop at Camborne which is a 25 minute taxi ride away. You are best to approach the Lamp House from Helston taking the road to Loe Bar and then down Coopers Lane rather than going through Porthleven where the streets are very narrow.

Porthleven is a fantastic unspoilt traditional and active fishing village. With its restaurants, superb pubs, cafes, and shops, the harbour side is always bustling but rarely overcrowded (unlike the tourist havens on the north coast). In fact Porthleven is often at its busiest on a stormy day when many locals gather around the harbour to watch the dramatic scenes of the enormous Atlantic waves crashing up against the cliffs.

The village is fast becoming the foodie centre of South West Cornwall - led by Kota (Jude Kereama, Great British Menu) and Rick Stein Porthleven, with many other fine restaurants. The area is a walkers paradise and there is nothing like a morning stroll along the coastal path, across the sand spit at Loe Bar, and on to Gunwalloe where you can have a superb lunch at the Halzephron pub before returning home.

Porthleven made the news in January and February 2014 with the massive storms hitting the South West, and plenty of footage on YouTube and the BBC. The Lamp House is standing strong, providing fantastic views of the waves and can be seen in many of the photos.

Just five minutes walk from the house you will find steps taking you down to Porthleven's beautiful sandy beach, the east side of which allows pets all year round. The beach on the other side of the harbour is suitable for expert surfers, otherwise beginners can travel to Praa Sands just along the coast or to Gwithian on the north coast for spectacular surf. You can also drive south to the Lizard and west to Lands End and the numerous beaches and points of interest in between. And for a special treat why not visit or even book seats for a show at the magical cliff top open air Minack Theatre (see its web site).
