The village features prominently in Daphne du Maurier's famous novel, The House On The Strand. There is a large sandy beach within a mile and an extensive network of magnificent coastal footpaths within easy reach. The world renowned Eden Project is only 3 miles to the North. Appletree House is a superb and very spacious family property with rooms of generous proportions. The property stands in charming landscaped gardens and has excellent parking facilities. This fantastic house offers luxury accommodation and if you are looking for something for a special occasion or you just want to spoil yourself then look no further.

About the Owner

Ali & I moved to Cornwall in 2001 and have been involved in renovating property in and around the Fowey area since. We have two properties with Owners Direct (Smugglers Cottage sleeping 4, & Appletree House, sleeping up to 10, in nearby Tywardreath), both properties were renovated for luxury holiday letting.

We handle the bookings and management of the cleaning and maintenance ourselves; in addition Ali, who is a Garden Designer, designed and implemented the landscaping of both gardens.

We are both keen sailors and regularly race our local built Fowey River Dinghy - a 15 ft wooden clinker built boat with beautiful black and lime green sails – you may even see us out racing in the Fowey River estuary on Wednesday evenings or Saturday afternoons.

Appletree House is great with lots of space and good facilities and the peaceful location and beautiful countryside views were just what we had hoped for. What an immaculate and spacious house with gorgeous views over countryside. The children enjoyed the freedom of the garden and the facilities of the toy room (study). At 9pm every evening we saw a family of deer in the field next door.

Amazing!

The first thing we said once we had walked through the door was, WOW! The house was very spacious and clean. And all facilities we could have wished for were present. The microwave wasn't working and within 2 hours we had a new microwave delivered. The location is a perfect base for exploring Cornwall. The local people were very friendly and plenty of pubs with great food close to the house. We would recommend this property to anyone wishing to have a vacation in Cornwall. In fact, we wish we could have picked up the house and taken it with us ;-)

Superb mini-break

We had a fantastic stay at Appletree house. Lovely and spacious accommodation for our group of 8 plus eight month baby. The owner was very flexible with our requests - nothing was too much trouble. We would definitely recommend staying here and wouldn't hesitate returning on another occasion.

Holiday Haven

The listing details for Apple tree House were pretty much spot on. The garden was tranquil and perfect for bar-b-cues and eating alfresco! The kitchen was extremely well equipped and spacious, as was the massive lounge. We were three families with two 2 year olds and an 8 year old so having 3 bathrooms was a huge bonus. The property is well maintained and thoroughly clean which is a very important factor for me. it was great being able to converse via email with the owner who couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating. I would thoroughly recommend the house to others which also has a good location, being only minutes from Par, Polkerris, Fowey and Charlestown. It only took us 15 minutes to get to the Eden Project too, so an ideal spot for visiting lots of interesting places nearby. All the family were impressed - the men brought their cycles and the women went running, even bringing fish and chips back on one occasion from a nearby take-away, which were excellent. There is nothing to criticise at all - we could have stayed on longer!

Long weekend at Appletree House

We were looking to have a short break over the Bank Holiday weekend in the first week of May. I had tried to find a suitable place through various websites but they were not flexible. Then I had the idea to try ownersdirect.co.uk and talk direct to owners. It proved to be worth my while as I came across what looked like a wonderful cottage in Cornwall by the name of Appletree House. I got the number of Ali, the owner, and spoke to her on the phone. I found her to be extremely accommodating, flexible and negotiated the days, times and money with her.

When we arrived at Appletree House it was everything we anticipated and more. The large square lounge, well equipped kitchen/dining area, amazing master bedroom, good sized other bedrooms, colourful décor we found to be very homely and welcoming. Not to mention the downstairs study/bedroom which we used for my elderly mother. The gardens were also very well kept.

We were after a short break to escape the daily routine. We had a fabulous time. The thing that I liked the most and won me over was the fact that Ali genuinely wanted for us to enjoy our time at Appletree House and went the extra mile to understand our needs. So, I wanted to say a special big THANK YOU to Ali for a wonderful short break.

Birthday weekend at Appletree

We had a fantastic time celebrating my birthday at Appletree house with friends and family. The house is absolutely perfect for larger groups (8 in our group), with plenty of space and bathrooms to ensure everyone had a very relaxing (and luxurious!) time.

The location is great for visiting this wonderful area of South Cornwall- with great pubs and restaurants just down the road (Sam's on the Beach is our favourite), the beautiful town of Fowey only 10mins drive, lots of beaches within easy reach, the Eden Project on your doorstep and much more only a short drive away.

One of the real highlights of the house is the huge kitchen and living area downstairs. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and the gigantic lounge opens out straight into the garden- great for BBQs and warm summer evenings.

We also loved the massive master bedroom with a very luxurious, modern bathroom (and the biggest bath I've ever seen!) walk in wardrobe and views over the fields and beyond.

In summary, probably one of the highest quality, best equipped and well designed house (for larger groups particularly) we have ever stayed in on holiday. We will definitely be back!

  • Notes on accommodation: Appletree House has a garden that is loved by young and old alike. It is suitable for a large family group or a romantic holiday for two. Private & secluded with far reaching countryside views. Unfortunately, we don't accept pets. Outside: The professionally designed gardens at Appletree are charming and secluded. Offering deck, paved patio and pergola gazebo at the rear and a paved breakfast patio at the front outside of the dining room French door. Furniture provided ensures a place to relax in the sun at any time of day. There are slate paths and a contemporary water feature. Both gardens have lawn. The private rear garden enjoys far reaching views across the surrounding countryside. During your stay you have use of a bbq to enjoy those summer evening to the full. Utility Room: With door to garden, stainless sink drainer with unit under, washing machine and tumble dryer. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Quality bed linen and towels are included. Other: Appletree has a pretty oak porch leading into the ash wood floored hall. There is a charming ash staircase to a galleried landing above. Downstairs is the Study/Bed 5 with stripped floors, desk and luxury soafa/bed sleeping 2.
