About the property

Cottage with garden in the High Alpujarras, Andalucia, Spain - House with Moorish Features in a Peaceful Location with Stunning Mountain Views

Spacious house for 2, totally private and full of light, in a small garden overlooking the tiny Moorish hamlet of Atalbeitar, one of the best preserved in the Alpujarra, on the Southern slopes of Sierra Nevada. The Arabic background of the area is reflected in many details of the decoration of this charming house, including ancient doors and furniture salvaged in the village itself and restored. From its large covered terrace and from every room there are stunning mountain views and beautiful sunsets. One can relax in the shade of an almond tree in its private Mediterranean garden. It's situation at 3500 ft makes it is a good starting point for walks in rural countryside between white villages or for hiking to the highest peaks.

A lovely house in a beautiful place

  • 5 of 5

A lovely old house, very comfortable and tastefully decorated in a beautiful, remote village location. We were a little frustrated by the tall trees mentioned in another review, which block the view of the valley but not of the neighbour's roof terrace, and the other slight downside for us as learners of Spanish was that, because this is a very cosmopolitan area with many English-speaking residents, we didn't hear quite as much ambient Spanish as we would have liked. But these are minor gripes and overall I think five stars are justified. This really is the perfect place to forget about the car and walk as there are many footpaths leading in different directions from the village, including to the nearest supermarket and a very good vegetarian restaurant. Driving any distance takes a while as the roads twist and turn, but we did a trip to the sea and another to Granada, with some truly spectacular views along the way. A shorter drive will take you to other good places for walks.

A charming cottage for 2 in a tiny village on a hillside in the Alpujarras.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is comfortable with ample space for to relax. Lots of light & attractive decor with an arabic feel. The garden is a delight especially the roses. The terrace is a lovely spot to have meals and enjoy the garden and the view. I would recommend it to couples who enjoy spectacular scenery, and peace and quiet. An excellent area for walking.

A tranquil home with an unobstructed view of the mountains

  • 5 of 5

We walked the trails connecting each of the La Taha villages. It was the season for many beautiful wild flowers. We were sorry to have to leave.

Private hideaway

  • 4 of 5

Winding our way up the Sierra Nevada mountain range to the tiny hamlet of Atalbéitar we were enchanted with the view and changing landscape. The house with its own garden and terrace provided a quiet interlude to our road trip. The birds, sunsets, and a sense of old world Andalusia was priceless. We hiked, cooked and enjoyed meeting some of the villagers with their great stories about the local environs. Our only regret is that we didn't plan a longer stay to relax and melt into the village life.

An ideal place to get away from it all

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was clean, comfortable and charming. Ideal for a couple who enjoy walking in beautiful mountains along ancient pathways. All pretty basic but great to get away from the bustling crowds. Although we were most surprised to find WiFi available. The village is very quiet, almost like a ghost town at times, but the locals we did meet were very friendly. The bottom line is we had a most enjoyable relaxing week and are most likely to return.
