About the property

Detached House in tranquil rural setting, with access to all the Loire region

‘La Forge’ is a traditional, detached house in the heart of the village of St-Cyran-du-Jambot. The house combines a traditional cottage (‘longere’) with a restored forge to create spacious and versatile accommodation, sleeping at most 6, in the house and additional sleeping in the Forge living room and mezzanine. Fully restored, there are traditional French features throughout with oak beams, tiled floors, It has enclosed, sunny gardens equipped with BBQ and sun loungers and a range of games- badminton, table tennis and boules. The village has a bar/restaurant (100m from the house) and is set in delightful countryside. There is easy access to nearby market towns; the medieval towns of Chatillon-sur-Indre (5 minutes drive ) and Loches (15 minutes) with excellent shopping, restaurants and bars. There is much to do and see in the area, including the many Loire chateaux, water sports, including canoes on the rivers and lakes, swimming pools, and visits to zoos, aquariums etc.

Why Stephen Briggs chose Saint-Cyran-du-Jambot

We chose to buy a house here because of the wonderfully diverse nature of the area. We love the setting of the house in the village and the open landscapes that provide a real sense of space. Both the natural and cultural aspects of the region are outstanding. We can easily visit the many chateaux and historical towns, and enjoy the rivers and lakes, walking, cycling and canoeing. There is something for every taste. Around the very welcoming village the countryside offers opportunities for walking, cycling, horse riding, golf, fishing and canoeing. A particular delight is to discover the nearby lakes which all have swimming, boats for hire and a restaurant. We love the towns too – for example the old medieval centre of Loches and its thriving market.

What makes this house unique

The property offers the best of (at least) two worlds; peace and tranquility in a French village and access to a range of natural and cultural gems. The house is quite unusual in that we have combined the two buildings- the cottage and the forge to make one house. Sometimes it is enough to spend a sunny day in the garden, and perhaps walking or cycling along the lane to the river. On other days, there is much to discover. We can recommend many places to visit, and suggestions of where to eat and taste the local wines.

Maison idéalement située, proche des lieux d’intérêt : Parc de la Brenne, Zoo de Beauval, Loches… Jardin clos agréable et idéal avec enfants et/ou chiens …

Dommage qu’elle soit si sale et que le descriptif de l’annonce ne corresponde pas à la réalité. Absence de baignoire, bidet, ventilateur de plafond ... IMPORTANT : le propriétaire omet de préciser que le téléviseur ne reçoit que les chaînes anglaises.

Owner's Response: I am sorry you found the house not to your liking. I regret you have described the house as dirty as it was cleaned before your arrival, and checked to be at our usual high standards, which all other guests have found satisfactory. I do apologise that the French TV was temporarily not working. In the circumstances I think the 1 star rating you gave is not really a fair reflection of the quality of stay the house provides.

The house is in the village. Chatillon-sur-Indre is 5 mins drive, Loches is 15 mins. Loches market takes place every Wednesday and Saturday.

The house is close to lakes, villages, chateaux, rivers and the major attractions of the area. Chenonceaux, Amboise, Valencay and Tours are all reached in under 1 hour’s drive from the village.

Also at Amboise; canoe expeditions, aquarium, adventure park. Futuroscope at Poitiers is 75 mins.

Further Details:

All facilities -shops, restaurants, banks, supermarkets etc are to be found in both Chatillon and Loches. Both towns have swimming pools.

Bookings made within 8 weeks of the start of your holiday must be paid for in full and in advance of occupation of the property.

For a booking made more than 8 weeks before your holiday starts we require a deposit of 25% of the cost of the rental with the balance payable 8 weeks prior to the arrival date.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is Saturday but we offer flexibility where possible.

Notes on prices:
Prices are for the property per week in UK Pounds. Prices are based on rental for up to 4 people. If more than 4 people stay there will be an additional charge of £20 per person per week.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 14 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
