About the Owner

My wife and I and our two children (aged 22 and 8) live in England, 35 miles to the north west of London. We both work and bought Villa Mara as a place to relax and unwind by the sea with our family. Svetlana is Russian and there are strong cultural ties between Russia and Cyprus and, coupled with a love of the sea and the Cypriots' family friendly outlook on life, it made Protaras / Cape Greko the ideal location for us. We bought the villa with the intention of renting it out so that others can enjoy it as well - it really is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of every day life in the UK. Water sports, tennis and cycling are all close by. We love to BBQ the locally caught fish and the fresh produce is amazing. We hope you will enjoy the villa as much as we do.

Guestbook comments from the owner

In July 2012 we visited Villa Mara and had a fantastic holiday. The villa is well appointed for a family and in a great location for nearby beaches. The bus stop on the main road (2 mins walk) is ideal for those who wish to get about Cyprus without the use of a hire car.

The management agency is located close by and the staff are very helpful.

We will definitely return to Villa Mara and have no hesitation in recommending it to others. Ian Basford, Liza and the girls - Staffordshire, England.

In April 2012 we visited Villa Mara and had a wonderful holiday. The villa is comfortably fitted out for a family and in a great location for beaches, restaurants and other activities.

The directions and other information given in advance meant our journey went smoothly, and the management company was very helpful whilst we were there. We will definitely return to Villa Mara and have no hesitation in recommending it to others. - Katherine, Morgan and Finlay Woods - Marlow, England.

Very clean, modern, well stocked kitchen and furnished very nice.

  • 5 of 5

We have been to Cyprus for over 20 years now. And been in villas for around 7 years in various countries.

We found this villa to be very clean, more kitchen utensils than you will ever need.

Living room large enough for 6 people and full air conditioning .

Bedrooms a good size and full air conditioning.

Pool area is OK ,this time of year(September) we went from one end of the pool to the other following the sun also the pool can be cold. But with it being so hot it wasn't a problem for us.

We also found this villa very quiet which was great.

At the front opposite the villa you have an unfinished hotel which looks terrible but don't let this put you off.

All in all would we go back to this villa again, yes most definitely.

Relaxing, peaceful and private.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Villa Mara for 10 nights and couldn't fault our stay. The pool area is extremely clean and private with lots of greenery. Inside the villa, the kitchen has everything you could possibly need to cook any meal. The Wifi in the villa was actually better than what we have at home! No buffering or load time and we loved that we could use the Apple TV with our iPads on an evening to stream shows. As we went as a couple we only made use of the double bedroom but all rooms are a great size and have ample storage space.

The area is beautiful and feels very safe. We used the villa guide provided for recommendations of restaurants, supermarkets and things to do which really helped improve our stay! Konnos bay was our favourite beach and we hired a boat from Mikes water sports which was great fun.

Thanks very much to Adrian and family, your villa felt like a home from home. And thanks to Jo and Chaz who were there if we needed anything during our stay.

An excellent villa very close to Konnos Bay

  • 5 of 5

We have recently returned from a 10 day stay at Villa Mara.

This was our first visit to Cyprus, we managed a couple of day road trips to the Troodos Mountains, but otherwise remained at the villa and Konnos Bay.

The villa, within a quiet cul-de-sac, is located near Cape Greco and is a short walking distance of the picturesque Konnos Bay.

The villa is very well equipped, serviced and furnished to a high standard.

Prior to our departure, the owner provided an excellent overview of the villa and local area. Mr Jenkins is well supported on the ground in Cyprus by a friendly team re: villa & pool cleaning. There is a very detailed information pack provided and this was really very useful.

The pool was clean and regularly maintained and there are two lovely palm trees in the rear garden, favorably distinguishing this villa from others in the road.

There was a much appreciated welcome set of groceries to survive until our first supermarket visit. We subsequently used the Metro Supermarket between Protaras and Paralimni although the closer Lidl and Best Buy stores were also well stocked with everything we needed.

We hired a car for our trip from Hertz at Larnaca Airport, but there’s a bus stop, a mere 2 minutes walk from the villa, with buses serving Ayia Napa, Protaras, Paralimni etc..etc..

The people of Cyprus were lovely and we were pleased by the meals and service at the local recommended restaurants (Kafkaros & Spartiatis).

We would not hesitate to return to this property in the future.

Great Villa

  • 5 of 5

We had a perfect 10 day stay at Villa Mara. The villa was spotlessly clean and well equipped.

It was situated in a quiet location and within a 10 minute walk to the lovely Konnos Bay, and short bus journey to Protaras and Agia Napa, where there were many good quality bars and restaurants.

The local supermarket and bus stop was at the top of the road

We wouldn't hesitate to go back again

This was our first experience of a villa holiday, and what an excellent villa holiday we had.Situated in the ideal location the villa was well equipped and very well maintained. There are plenty of local restaurants near by and the resorts of ayia napa and protaras are within easy reach by bus or taxi,if you feel energetic you could take a walk along the coastal path .Konnos bay is beautifull near by.We will definetly be returning in 2016 .Thank you to Adrian and Gill for a great holiday experience.

Wonderful holiday!

  • 5 of 5

Villa Mara was perfect! Great location to restaurants, bars and beautiful beaches! Our favourite was konnas bay which was about a 15 min walk along the coastline or main road. Walking into protaras only took 45 mins. The villa has everything you need, the pool is lovely and having a table tennis was fun! We have recommended to friends and family.

Thank you to Adrian for all the information! The villa booklet was very useful!

Location

From the Owner

We bought Villa Mara as a family get away and as an investment. It is in Cape Greko, Protaras which is within walking distance of Konnos Bay beach, the most beautiful beach in Cyprus. The sea is warm and calm there and, with over 300 days of sunshine, it is an uplifting place to be. We chose to buy a villa in Cyprus because culturally it suits us both well - I am English and my wife is Russian. UK and Russian citizens can enter Cyprus easily - it is a great place for us to travel with family members. The people of Cyprus are very friendly and love children which means that the whole island is very family friendly and relaxed. Cape Greko is a 45 min drive from Larnaca airport (the first 35 mins are motorway) and there are cheap flights from most major European cities.

Activity and Interests

Special interest holidays:

Weddings: Cyprus is the birthplace of Aphrodite, the ancient Greek goddess of love. Today Cyprus is one of the most popular destinations in the world for couples to tie the knot outside of their own country. Villa Mara is a 10 minute walk from one of the most exclusive hotels for weddings on the island, the Grecian Park Hotel, which sits atop the cliff overlooking Konnos Bay. Whilst the bride and groom will stay in the hotel, guests may choose to enjoy the freedom and luxury of Villa Mara which provides excellent value in comparison. With 2 other villas of similar size in the development readily bookable through us, up to 18 guests can stay close to the wedding party and enjoy each other’s company in a more relaxed environment prior to the Big Day. Contact us for more details.

Coast/Beach:

Konnos Bay Beach (15 min walk/3 min drive) is considered the best beach on the island. As well as being ideal for swimming (the water is shallow a long way out) and sunbathing, Mike’s Watersports has a variety of up to date pedalos, boats, jet skis and other activities.

Mimosa Beach is a 10 min walk/3 min drive from the villa, is ideal for swimming in calm water and there is a bar serving food and drinks all day.

The Cyclop's Cave dive site is a 10 min walk from the villa.

Travel:

Villa Mara is a 45 min drive from Larnaca airport, with all but the last 8km on the A3 motorway. Hire a car at the airport or take a taxi (about EUR 65).

A car is not essential but it is strongly recommended if you want to get the best out of your holiday. The local Ayia Napa - Paralimni bus service runs every 20 minutes in summer from the end of the road and there are local taxi companies.

Motorbikes, scooters and dune buggies can be hired from Ham Yam Rentals which is 15 min walk away.

Distances:

Protaras centre ("the Strip") 2km. Ayia Napa centre 8km. Paralimni centre 10km. Larnaca Airport 65km. Grecian Park Hotel 400m. Mimosa Beach Hotel 600m.

Further Details:

A tennis court can be hired by the hour for 5 euros at Mimosa Beach, a 10 min walk. Multiple courts can be hired at the Grecian Park for 10 euros per hour. For a family water experience, Water World water park in Agia Napa is a fun way to spend a day. Catch a bus from the end of the road to the park or take your hire car – the park is visible from the motorway. In Agia Napa harbour there are a variety of boat experiences on offer: 2 hour swim and snorkel trips in the nearby sea caves; day trips up to the UN patrolled border from where you can see the “ghost town” of Famagusta and evening dinner cruises. Turn up and decide which one is best for you: there are options for every budget.

For those who want to explore the local area in something other than a car, Ham-Yam Rentals is, in our opinion, the best place to hire bicycles, scooters, motorbikes and dune buggies. It is within walking distance of the villa on Cape Greko Road.

All of Cyprus is accessible from the villa within one day, even Paphos on the west coast. We spent an enjoyable day driving to the Troodos Mountains, out via Nicosia and back via Limassol. The area is quite beautiful and is full of traditional Cypriot villages nestling on the side of the mountains. We had a great lunch, tour of the churches and old stone houses and visited two vineyards in the town of Omodos.

Facilities

From the Owner

Villa Mara is a light, airy property with Wi-fi and is only 200m as the crow flies from the sea (you can see it from two of the bedrooms). It has its own pool and is within walking distance of two beaches (Konnos Bay and Mimosa), which are both great for swimming. Konnos Bay beach has excellent water sports facilities and the Cyclops' Cave dive spot is between the villa and beach. There are a number of restaurants and bars within walking distance, including the cliff top bar at the Grecian Park Hotel (10 mins walk) which is a must do experience during your stay. A convenience store is 2 min walk away and the local Ayia Napa - Paralimni bus service stops outside it (every 20 mins from 07:00-04:00). Villa Mara is on a development of only 15 villas and the area is quiet at night.
