About Sharon Burney

We have owned the villa since 2010 and use it ourselves as a holiday home for our family. We have a two year old son and two Mother in Laws who always come on holiday with us.

We have rented the villa out the whole time we have owned it and had some wonderful reviews from people who have stayed there.

We live in Nottingham in the UK.

Sharon Burney purchased this villa in 2010

Why Sharon Burney chose Porto de Mós

We fell in love with Lagos when we were looking for an investment property. We had bought before in Albufeira, but once we visited Lagos and in particular Porto Do Mos, there was no question that we were going to invest in that area.

What makes this villa unique

The area is so peaceful and so close to the beach that we go for a walk every morning. The villa itself feels like a home from home and we immediately relax as soon as we unpack.

Perfect family holiday

  • 5 of 5

The property was just as described with fantastic location to the beach and Lagos. It was a bonus having the pool heated, great size for kids to play. the setting is nice and private.

The communication we had with Sharon was second to none, she even arranged to post items that we had left at the villa. One of the best family holidays we have had. Thanks Sharon.

Outstanding

  • 5 of 5

From the minute I made the initial enquiry, the communication with Sharon was spot on. She answered all questions and was able to provide a recommendation for an airport transfer, which we were equally pleased with. On arrival at the villa I had to literally pick my jaw up from the floor as I walked round the pristine, well presented rooms. The three upstairs bedrooms are all doubles, two with a bath and shower over and the third with a walk in shower, and all have at least one balcony. Downstairs is lovely twin room and a further separate shower room. Shutters on all windows keep the morning sunlight out very effectively. Fluffy towels are provided in every room. The kitchen is well kitted out with everything you need and the dishwasher and washing machine came in handy. In the lounge area there is ample seating and a TV box to receive English channels. We didn't use the large dining table as we preferred to eat outside, where there was a further table and bbq. The villa has plenty of sun loungers. I, unfortunately, didn't get much chance to sunbath as I was chasing my 9 month old son round most of the time. He was well provided for, with a high chair and travel cot and the pool heating is well worth the extra spend. Simply put, the photos do not do the villa justice. Sharon has compiled an information book with restaurant recommendations and directions to the beach, where you can get the bus to Lagos for €1.20. We debated whether to hire a car but found it easy enough to get a taxi back from Lagos and took taxis to and from the supermarket with the weekly shop. Lagos itself is a super town with plenty of shops and so many restaurants its hard to decide where to eat. We found the villa perfectly situated for a quiet getaway, where we could go off and do our own thing away from the rest of our party. It definitely surpassed all our expectations and we only hope that we'll be able to return soon. Top marks all round!

Disappointed

  • 2 of 5

I have no complaints about the Villa - it was beautiful and clean - just as the images on the website.

Unfortunately the building site opposite was noisy every day of our holiday. I had asked the question about developments before I booked the holiday and was told it would be finished by the time we arrived. I believe I was told this in good faith, but it was nowhere near completion. I think my complaint could have been handled differently, as I have not even had the courtesy of a reply to my second email. I was willing to send footage of the site to show exactly what impact this had on our holiday. If you pay such an amount for a rental a reply would have been appreciated.

Thoroughly enjoyable stay in a high quality villa which had everything we wanted

  • 5 of 5

We hired this villa for a week and would consider it great value for its size and amenities. The owners are very responsive and receiving the keys prior to leaving the UK was really helpful as we have had previous stressful experiences of trying to contact agents whilst abroad. Our deposit was also returned swiftly when we returned the keys.

This property was perfect for our relaxing family holiday and our young children loved it. Everything we needed for them was provided; we even borrowed the buckets and spades for the beach!

The property was spotlessly clean and everything we could have wanted was provided. The bedrooms are nicely furnished without being over the top. We had paid for the swimming pool to be heated and this was at a perfect temperature for our arrival. The WiFi also really good.

I would recommend this villa to anyone who is looking to stay in Porto de Mos

Lovely new villa, beware if you would like heated

  • 3 of 5

New villa located on large development. You need a car during your stay here as only thing within walking distance is the beach and 2 restaurants down there. Both beach and restaurants were really good.

The heated pool was a big reason for us to book this particular villa. I contacted the owner to ensure the pool would be heated and I had acknowledgement that the heating would be on ready for our arrival.

When we arrived the pool was freezing cold. i contacted the owner on several occasions (not something i really wanted to keep on doing on holiday) who assured me that it would switched on that day. We were out for the next 2 days so assumed this had been done whilst we were out but still we couldn't tell a difference with the temperature and it was too cold to use.

On day 3 the pooling cleaning guys came and, by chance, we were in so were able to speak with them directly. They checked and said the heating was not on and so switched it on for us. From being turned on it takes a couple of days to heat up to a temperture we could use. I'd contacted the owner so many times to ensure the pool was heated before we arrived and during the first few days of our holiday and every time was assured the heating was on.

After a couple of days the pool was a lovely temperature and we are able to use it but only 2/3 days out of our 7 day stay. This was so dissappointing and really ruined it for us, as we have small children who wanted to use the pool.

When we arrived home we posted the keys back to the owner she didn't receive them so £20 was deducted from our deposit - £20 for a couple of keys to be cut is a little steep i thought!

We did have a lovely time in here but the pool not being heated and my having to constantly message the owner during my stay ruined it for me unfortunately.

Owner's Response: This is the first negative review I have had in the seven years that I have been renting out our beautiful villa. This particular traveller did not pay for the pool to be heated, as it clearly states it is an extra cost. Out of good will I asked our pool man to put it on for them when they had arrived, which he did. Unfortunately it does take a few days to heat up properly. When guests have paid for the heating I always make sure the pool is switched on at least three days in advance so that it's at a warm temperature. As for the keys, they have be cut in Lagos as the keys are not available in the UK. So £20 to get the keys re cut and sent back to me in the UK is actually less than what it cost me to do. The keys for the driveway gates have also not been returned which I did not charge them for because I didn't want to be petty! I wish I had now!

Wonderful holiday in a super villa

  • 5 of 5

The was a high degree of trepidation when booking with Owners Direct given the bad publicity they have had of late and clearly you have to be very careful to ensure that all is as it seems. I am happy so say that this was all it seemed. A super villa in what seems to be holiday villa close with everything you could wish for. I would strongly recommend a car as the villa is not close to shops and the owners will recommend both an excellent no frills car hire company and a first class executive travel company. A short walk from the beach do not be tempted to to take the cliff path down especially with children. The walk down the road is equally convenient and you are less likely to be visiting the local hospital with a fractured ankle. I agree with what was said about Antonios - very hit and miss both the food and especially the service....I think they have had a hospitality by-pass. There is an excellent manager locally to help with anything.

The only negative I would say is that the booking process is not the slickest. the website is not updated as often as some and there is a reluctance to provide and invoice or receipt for payments made - which adds a little to the unease when you have no ABTA cover. You pays your money etc.....and if you do I am sure you will enjoy your stay
