Not very good at all

  • 1 of 5

Dear Mark

We were very disappointed with our stay at your cottage as you advertise the property as a Delightful Grade ll Listed Cottages REFURBISHED & UPGRADED JAN 2017.

(1) The fridge door was hanging on badly worn hinges which made it difficult to close.

(2) The TV was pointless as the picture and sound kept braking up making it impossible to watch

(3) Because it gets dark early in the evening it made it difficult to go out the back garden as the out side light did not work.

(4) One of the bulbs in the Kitchen did not work

(5) The shower door sounded as if the hinges were seized and could brake

(6) Both doors on the bathroom cabinet bottom hinges were loose which meant it was hanging on the top hinges. Once they went the mirrored doors would have been on the floor broken.

(7) We never used the oven but we noticed that the oven shelves were dirty.

(8) The bedroom floor felt very unsafe as it was moving under foot

We find with these faults and the way you describe the property is unreasonable charging us what you did for three nights.

Although you are not responsible for the public car park we feel you should organise something as down pass the cottage is not wide enough for cars to pass whilst unloading the car. The car park is a joke as one has to go backs and forwards to feed the meter and the phone booking does not take night payment.

The whole experience has not been good and look forward to your reply

Owner's Response: We are really disappointed with the review Mr Weekes has posted - and would like to point out that he didn't stay in Longsteps (which has been extensively refurbished - please see reviews!) but Littlesteps (redecorated in 2017) We would ask you to look at the reviews our guests have posted, most of which are 5 stars, and we believe give a true reflection of our lovely 1 bedroom cottage. We are sorry that Mr Weekes didn't enjoy his stay - all of his issues could have been resolved had he simply let our caretaker (who is available 24/7) aware! Spare light bulbs are in the Kitchen (one bulb needed changing from a 4 bulb light fitting) We've checked the TV (which is new!) and its working perfectly well. The other issues he raises are completely exaggerated - our Caretaker checks the cottages constantly, with every change over, and takes great pride in presenting Littlesteps beautifully. I'm not sure what Mr Weekes expects from the road system in a Cornish town, most people visit Fowey because it is a quaint and has all the charm of bygone years. The public carparks are easily accessible and you can book for long periods of time, and pay by various methods cash, card or app.

A very nice place to stay for a week.

  • 4 of 5

We liked the little harbour town of Fowey really a lot. Not too crowded but lively. Nice restaurants and very helpful and friendly people in pubs and restaurants and all around the place. A good starting place for making trips in the environment (Mevagissey, Polruan, to the south of Cornwall. :-). However, it was a bit surprising to find no tourist information office to go to for advice - in a tourist town like this it would be obvious to have one. Our cottage Little Steps was nice, too. However, it was very difficult to get there by car. Unloading and loading the luggage was more than an adventure. To have towels at one's disposal for the week would have been helpful. Allin all, it is al place we'd like to go to a second time.

Cosy, clean and comfy with all the charm of Cornwall on the doorstep

  • 5 of 5

Clean and cosy cottage with all the charm of Cornwall on its doorstep. 2 min walk from estuary front and to catch the ferry to Polruan. The cottage has a lovely, warm feeling when you first enter. The miniature Christmas tree and lights around the fireplace were a lovely touch. It's like home from home as there is everything you need for your stay. Would highly recommend. The only drawback is that you need to be able bodied to stay in fowey as the main car park is at the top of the hill and it's not a flat holiday destination. But this has given me the kick I needed to start my fitness regime which I've continued back home. Would definitely like to return sometime xx

For the young and fit!

  • 4 of 5

First impressions of the cottage were disappointing . It was cold and unwelcoming and seemed somewhat drab and cramped. We arrived quite late so it was not a good start to find no welcome pack. I think it's the first time we've ever rented a holiday apartment without at least milk in the fridge. As the cottage is a short walk from the town it didn't really matter too much as we could eat out in one of the excellent restaurants. Another problem was that we'd forgotten our towels! Also coat hangers would have been useful.

Anyway , we settled in and passed a reasonably comfortable night and were able to get basic supplies from the nearby corner shop and fresh croissants from one of the great bakeries. A bunch of daffodils brightened up the living room. By now we were feeling more positive but cold. We phoned Sue, the caretaker, who was round within minutes to get the heating adjusted. We went to collect the car from the Main Car Park. We are from Lincolnshire and quite ancient. The climb was a shock!

After a week we were getting quite possessive about the cottage and were getting used to the climb. While not a luxury cottage it is clean, comfortable and has everything one needs. The long climb to the car park makes it more suitable for younger renters. All in all we enjoyed staying there.

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

This was the first time we'd booked self catering accommodation as hotels were always favoured. However after this trip to fowey and staying in littlesteps cottage I'd be doing it again. This was a great place to stay, great location in the old part of fowey. The accommodation was great with good views of the town it felt like home from home. After a long day out each day it was nice to just relax in what felt like your own little Bolt hole.

Special interest holidays:

Fowey has a unique and ancient charm which holds a special fascination for visitors of all ages.

Fowey is renowned for sailing in the estuary and attracts both experienced and novice sailors alike. Fowey Regatta week is the highlight of the social calendar, with Sailing, The Red Arrow Display Team, Carnival, Fireworks display and lots of live bands being but a few of the events taking place.

Private boat hire, sailing, canoeing and diving lessons are all available from Fowey.

Lots of lovely walks around the superb National Trust land and beautiful coastlines and beaches that surround Fowey.

We have two bathing beaches in Fowey, Readymoney Cove, a small sandy beach 15 min stroll from the town centre and Whitehouse Beach which is on the Esplanade, and only a 5 min walk from the town centre. Polkerris Beach is 15 mins drive away and has two nice restaurants.

Buses run regularly from Fowey into Par and St Austell and to the nearest train station, Par, which is only 5 miles from Fowey.

There is a seasonal local Fowey Town Bus that runs throughout the day.

The Polruan ferry runs from early morning, throughout theday and into the evening. The Bodinnick car and passenger ferry also runs continuously throught the day and evening and makes a quicker journey to Lerryn, Pont and Mixtow and all points east!

Eden Project - really worth seeing - 15 mins drive.

Padstow - Rick Steins restaurants are only 40 mins away.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan are 15 miles away.

Lanhydrock House (National Trust) is only 7 miles away.

Further Details:

The cottages are in the centre of the town with all the main restaurants and amenities within short walking distance. Some of our top tips:

Pinky Murphy's - try the Pinky's Plater.

Brown Sugar - coffee and cakes - fab pancakes.

The Ship Inn - traditional pub with a real fire.

The Galleon - great river views and plenty of atmosphere

Sams - brilliant burgers and seafood.

Nathan Outlaw at the Marina Hotel - for Michelin stars.

We have some fantastic local shops including Fowey Fish, which sells locally caught fresh fish and has an extensive selection of wines. Nile's bakery sells fresh bread and cakes. In addition we have a super local butcher, deli and green grocer - you really don't need your car!
