Country House near Montcuq, Lot, Midi-Pyrenees - Peaceful Location with beautiful views across valley

This charming property is situated in the small sleepy hamlet of St Laurent, which has a couple of farmhouses and a church and is set in the pretty countryside of the Lot, South West France. The property is within walking distance (1 km) to a small village which has a café/bar and is about 8 kms from the medieval Bastide town of Lauzerte, which has a supermarket, bank, bakers, small shops, restaurants and a weekly market. In the peak season there are regular musical events. The property is also near to Montcuq which is a popular lively village with restaurants, a large leisure lake and local shops and a busy Sunday morning market. It is in an ideal location for exploring traditional French villages with local excellent cuisine and good wines from the Cahors vineyards. If you are looking to relax the area is quiet and peaceful, perfect for country walks - it's situated on the pilgrims' route, the St James's Way to Santiago de Compostela - or just lazing in the sun by the swimming pool.

We live in Hampshire, England. We bought the house after many happy holidays in France, and try to stay there several times a year.

Why Ian Marsden chose Saint-Laurent-Lolmie

It is incredibly peaceful and off the beaten track, tourist-wise. The weather is glorious, most of the time, from April until the end of October. Its a perfect location for rest and relaxation.

Because of its rural location, a car is essential, although there is a small local bar within walking distance.

What makes this cottage unique

The closest shops are around 8 kilometres away - also accessible by bicycle (around 30 minutes on a good day!).

There are also many beautiful towns in the region, a lake for swimming nearby, a different market to visit every day, and the cities of Toulouse and Bordeaux within reach for a day trip.

We had a great time. The property is well equipped and there is plenty to do in the area. Its the second time we have visited and really enjoyed relaxing by the pool. The pool heating is a great improvement.
