This beautiful part 15c cottage, with original beamed ceilings (but with plenty of head room), and quirky nooks and crannies, has been recently renovated, with top quality appliances, new carpets and oak flooring, whilst retaining all of its period charm. Rooster Hall is fully equipped with all those little extras you find in your own home. With 3 pubs within walking distance, plus restaurants, cafes, and little shops, there is even a Zoo - everything is close by to ensure a fabulous holiday. Please note if you book direct with me, Gillian, you will not be charged Owners Direct Service Charge Fees.

We had a fantastic holiday in Rooster Hall, what a great area, nice and peaceful but minutes from the beach and only short drives to other attractions and towns. Would recommend to family and friends and can’t wait to return next year.

Notes on accommodation: The cottage is very cosy, but spacious. It is centrally heated, with ample amounts of hot water and great pressure in the shower – coupled with tranquil outside space & comfy beds and 100% cotton bedding, it is a great recipe for a perfect holiday! Outside: Beautiful cottage garden, accessed from the kitchen via a stable door, and from the living room, and kept in check by our lovely gardener. Very pretty rose/climber covered area, with BBQ for eating al fresco, complete with fairy lights, garden table and seating for 6, a swing seat for two, and a couple of ‘junior’ seats. Area outside to hang washing. Private parking for 2 cars right outside the cottage garden with level access to the cottage. LG washing machine/outside drying area Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All towels and linen are 100% cotton and freshly laundered. Each guest is provided with an Egyptian cotton bath towel and hand towel. Good supply of 't'towels. Please provide your own beach towels. Please bring your own baby bedding for the travel cot. Other: Dining room with large mahogany table and seating for 6, with oak flooring and elegantly furnished

Charming, comfortable, central

Our 2 week stay at Rooster Hall was, without a doubt, the best self-catering holiday we have ever taken - and we have done many throughout Europe. The house is beyond charming, with its thick stone walls, thatched roof and large garden. The rooms are large, the beds wonderfully comfortable and the furnishings well chosen. The full-kitchen was a boon for our family of 6, who love to cook and used the covered outdoor table in the garden every day. The two full bathrooms were also practical with the house full.

Rooster Hall is located within very short walking distance of Shaldon and the foot passenger ferry to Teignmouth, both lovely places to visit. We also found that we were within easy driving distance (15-60 minutes) of a wide variety of places to visit and activities, including: walking on the moors, riding a steam train, taking a river cruise, swimming in the sea, visiting abbeys, market towns, castles and more.

After our busy days of exploring Devon, we were always happy to return to the peace and quiet of Rooster Hall in the evenings.

As for our booking, the owner and the manager were always quick to respond to all our queries, both before and during our stay. The entire booking process went smoothly.

We can highly recommend Rooster Hall and the entire region of south Devon. We had a perfect holiday and hope to return one day soon.

Stunning cottage

From the moment we saw Rooster Hall we fell in love. Quiet location with a beautiful garden. Shaldon is a lovely village and we visited Ness beach a few times as it was dog friendly. All the family found their own things to do. I loved the little charity phone box book sale just round the corner. Would highly recommend Rooster Hall for a great family get away. I loved the wonky walls throughout the house, they added such character. The owner was very helpful with all enquiries and helping with any issues. The cottage was very clean and well equipped. We also booked the right week for the weather, wall to wall sunshine. Also nice to visit out of the summer holiday season, so relaxing.

The cottage has a real homely feeling with a beautiful garden. Great for outdoor dining.

Only negative, it was a little too far out. We needed to take the car everywhere, unless you like a hike. But the cottage is well positioned to explore the local area by car. Lots of places within half hour drive. We had a great time here.

(But it could do with a spring clean. )

Owner's Response: Great to hear you love the cottage and beautiful garden. It is only a 10 to 15 minute walk to the estuary and Shaldon village; perhaps you didn’t see the map with the shortcut? It is a lovely stroll, and there are so many places nearby to eat, drink and take in the stunning views. Part of the charm of Rooster Hall is the tranquil setting with our own private off road parking outside the cottage and away from the hustle and bustle of the village. I am very sorry to hear the cottage needs a spring clean – I will chase that up with the cleaners. Enjoy the rest of this stunning summer.

The Teign estuary is a 6 minute walk, and from there you can walk along the waters edge to the first of Shaldon's lovely sandy beaches - another 6 minutes. Further along, past a superb pub, accessed via a smuggler's tunnel, you will find Ness beach. There are numerous other beaches close by including Dawlish Warren - rated as one of the top 5 beaches in the country with two miles of golden sands backed by dunes and a nature reserve.


Shaldon is very easily accessible.

Exeter airport 19 miles

Plymouth airport & ferry 39 miles

Bristol Airport 80 miles - 1.5 hrs on the M5

Teignmouth station 2 miles

The M5 provides fantastic access from the rest of the UK , with Shaldon being a mere 20 minutes from the A38. A car is not essential as everything is available withing walking distance. However it is advisable for those days when you want to venture further afield to visit the Eden project etc.


Shaldon village is on the doorstep, with a butcher, grocer, newsagent, gift shop, plus bars and restaurants and cafes.

Torquay is 7 miles, with everything you could possibly want, from golf courses to theatres, cinema and water sports.

We are so lucky to have so much to do right on our doorstep.

There are leaflets in the cottage with details of all the activities nearby. Neither children or adults will ever be bored!

Dartmoor is less than half an hour away; there are miles and miles of stunning beaches and walks to explore; or just wander down to the waters edge and soak in the ever changing views on the estuary and sea - with a glass of wine or an ice cream!
