About the Owner

We have lived in this pretty, peaceful hamlet of St Quion for 10 years. We moved from S.W England and after 10 years continue to be delighted by the longer, warmer summer evenings. BBQs most nights!

We love the country life but also, it's easy access to historic towns, restaurants, bars, and the beautiful rugged Breton coast and sandy beaches.

Our French neighbours are delightful, very friendly and enjoy our summer visitors. The farmer's

fields go down to the river and he is happy for you to stroll, fish, BBQ or picnic here. You might even have a tractor ride !

I cannot recommend La Chaumette highly enough !

What a wonderful stay !

From the moment we arrived we fell in love with this gorgeous cottage set in a small group of houses in the middle of nowhere . It is idyllic .

We set out to find a peaceful hideaway to rest up after an eventful few months and to introduce my 3 grandchildren to their first foreign holiday . We certainly found it !

Our intentions were to explore the countryside but apart from one trip to the coast the children really didn't want to go anywhere but the pool !

A trip to the nearby village store for bread however had them clamouring to come to practice their French on the lady owner whether she liked it or not !

The cottage is delightful . Quaint yet spacious , beautifully clean and well kept and the owners, Roger and Angela, made us feel so welcome . Attentive but not intrusive , they are a font of useful information and have always got time to help with suggestions or directions .

Highlights for the children were a ride in a sports car and in a tractor .

In fact the tractor is still talked about on a regular basis !

I have no qualms about recommending La Chaumette . Its a hidden treasure and if its peace and quiet you want this is definitely the place to go . I will be back !!!

Wonderful idyllic family holiday

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a wonderful relaxing break at La Chaumette. It really is set in a most beautiful, rural, tranquil part of the world. The garden has matured somewhat since the photos and there is a beautiful cottage garden with flowers around the door. There is plenty of space to run about in the front garden. There is also a fully enclosed garden and covered seating area by the pool. The pool is lovely, heated and safely fenced for little ones.

La Chaumette is well maintained, very spacious and full of character. We arrived late, to a cheeky bottle of red and thoughtful drinks and biscuits left out for the children. The kitchen cupboards are stocked with all the utensils you need and the table seats six with ample room. There is a further seating area in the kitchen too. In addition, there is a lower level pantry with fridge/freezer/dishwasher and washing machine. There are ample bathroom facilities and a wonderful traditional sitting room with a fantastic wood burner. Three generations of our family stayed here very comfortably. Boule, badminton and barbecues are all provided.

Roger and Angela are the most genial hosts. They live next door, but we had our privacy, yet they were attentive when needed and recommended some suitable activities for our stay. Our children still talk about them with affection.

There are plenty of activities on the doorstep and slightly further afield. We particularly enjoyed a traditional boat trip down the river Blavet. You can see the river from the house. Our children revelled in an opportunity to ride on the farm tractor, although the wisdom of letting a three year old drive around the field is questionable, he had no complaints! Poul Fetan is on the doorstep, beaches and wet weather trips to a hypermarket half an hour away. The area is picturesque, lush and green, which would account for the slightly disappointing weather we experienced, however it did not detract from our wonderful holiday. We will return.

A charming, well restored, rustic Breton Cottage.

  • 4 of 5

La Chaumette is situated in the tranquil hamlet of St Quion. Peaceful and well placed for exploring the Morbihan region of Brittany. The owners, who have a delightful house nearby, were excellent most welcoming hosts who attended to any of our needs. The cottage is as quaint and charming as its picture suggests, and very comfortable.

Our party comprised three generations, and all enjoyed the holiday immensely, whether it was touring the region, playing badminton or boules in the garden (equipment provided), or walks within the hamlet accompanied by a local farmers friendly dog. Apart from several trips to some pretty and relatively quiet sandy coves, which our grandson loved ( when he was not in the pool), two of the gems we visited were Port Saint-Goustan, and the village of Rochefort-en-Terre both not to be missed.

Perhaps on the debit side, the pool which is heated and kept extremely clean, would ideally be closer to the cottage. And, although stated in advance, the cottage stairs are a little difficult.

However, it is a lovely old Breton cottage in which to stay, in a beautiful peaceful hamlet and a region with much to see and do, and with charming owners. And food in the area is great.

I certainly recharged my batteries, and managed to read two books, when not playing with my grandson.

A delightful family holiday at La Chaumette

  • 5 of 5

Our time at La Chaumette exceeded our expectations as the house was well equipped with everything we needed and all amenities. The house was homely and cosy - full of Bretagne character, and a wonderful place to return to after a day exploring beautiful Brittany. It was ideal for a family stay, especially with the addition of the heated pool. The location is also fantastic, what with the idyllic River Blavet very close by, on which you can kayak or take a walk/cycle to look out for the many herons, egrets, and cormorants!

Angela and Roger - the owners - were very attentive and helpful to ensure that our week was the best it could be, and responded to any queries we may have. Not only this, but they recommended many activities and places to visit including the best restaurant we have ever eaten at. Roger also kingly took us out for a day on his yacht - a first time experience for all of us!

We would highly recommend staying at La Chaumette, and hope to return one day soon. Thank you again Roger and Angela for your kindness and making sure we had such a great holiday.

Tranquil setting!!

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful place!!. From the very start Roger & Angela could not have been more helpful - from numerous email exchanges pre arrival, to the welcoming bottle of wine on our arrival. The setting was amazing, all you could hear was wild life and with the Blavet river only 5 minutes walk away, where we were able to fish with permission from the wonderful friendly farmer. We saw Otters and Kingfishers along the river, and even saw Glow worms! we also hired Kayaks at a very reasonable price. All 3 cottages are in a small hamlet with very friendly neighbours, our dog made friends with the farmers dogs and happily wonder around with them. My teenage children enjoyed Quad biking and swimming in the pool which we had to ourselves. The area is absolutely stunning, with beaches deserted, FREE car parking everywhere, and some most amazing restaurants, selling Moules & Oysters! The cottage was very well equipped, with everything that you could need, even down to a BBQ, deck chairs and outdoor toys for the children to play with. Roger & Angela were always most informative and made our stay, one to remember and one to recommend to our family and friends. We will come back, its a very special place.
