About The Owner

Viv and Ray are a professional couple, recently retired who love the Essex and Suffolk countryside and villages. We enjoy meeting all guests who come to Station House and have a keen interest in other people, natural history and photography.

The Owner purchased this house in 2008

Why The Owner chose Suffolk

A beautiful house, exceptionally well equipped in a lovely location. All basic facilities are supplied except food, including one large basket of fuel for the wood stove in the lounge, in the winter.

What makes this house unique

A historic house, built in 1867 for the Stationmaster. The railway closed in 1967 but the house still has the well in the conservatory. The walled garden is on top of the old goods platform.

Very spacious comfortable house, great for family or group

Stayed in this house for a few days when we were in the area for a family wedding. House is fantastic, very spacious and well set up. Our flight was delayed but the owners were very facilitating to us dispite delay. We stayed at end of October, very relaxing to be able to light the stove on a cold dark evening to relax with family and friends! Would definitely stay again if I'm in the area! Would highly recommend if you are looking for a relaxed few days in the beautiful countryside.

Great group getaway

Verified Stay

Just returned from a fri-mon stay at The Old Station House, Glemsford. Nice quiet location for the house but able to walk into Glemsford across the fields or a drive into Long Melford.

The house was spacious and comfortably accommodated 8 adults bedroom wise and had ample parking outside. The walled garden was really nice for a bbq on the Friday evening being very private but with ample seating and tables. The lounge was a little tight for eight as only having seating on the sofas for six but for the short time we used the lounge it was fine. The kitchen had all the plates/cutlery etc you needed and the extra fridge was useful. The house was a very comfortable base for us to use for our stay but could probably do with a bit of a clean/decor refresh in places (although i think that when there is a septic tank that bleach products aren't used but I like plug holes/loos/tiles bleached at home.) Overall it definitely suited our needs for the weekend and we all had a lovely break and we would be happy to return.

Comfortable accomodation, good value for money

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely relaxed holiday. The extra grassed garden was a safe bonus for our granddaughter to run in, keeping the well in the conservatory was an amazing feature that we loved looking at. There is a lovely walk along the river which is reasonably flat,we were able to push the pram and our 80 year old parents were able to walk along too. The brewery tour in Bury St Edmunds was fun. Thank you, we would recommend this property to a friend.

Great house for 7 of us

  • 5 of 5

Property was very spacious and well stocked to cater for 7 of us. Plenty of glasses/plates/cutlery etc. Perfect location for the wedding we were attending at Alpheton Hall Barns. Ray was very prompt and helpful, and even posted us a t-shirt one of the party had left.

Highly recommended
