Gites with pool in pretty village - 2 mins walk from & local bar/restaurant - The Barn (1 Bedroom, Sleeps 4)

Overview

Property

Updated: 16-Nov-2016
Ideal for a large family or two families sharing - perfect base for exploring this stunning part of France!

La Petite Ferme is a small group of pretty gites converted from former farm buildings and set in the heart of an historic village. The Farmhouse can sleep up to 9 people and is perfect for a large family or two families sharing. The two smaller gites can accommodate 4 people and we frequently have visitors that enjoy having the whole place to themselves. The gites are arranged to give maximum privacy with their own terrace/bbq and outdoor seating areas. The local bar/restaurant is a short stroll down the hill. Enjoy time in our lovely swimming pool - we have plenty of sunbeds and parasols - or keep cool in our well stocked playbarn and enjoy the games and toys, play a game of table tennis, pool or table football. We have fishing nets and bicycles for you to borrow so you can set off and explore the lovely walks and safe cycle routes that surround the village. A short drive away are the market towns of Aulnay and Saint Jean d'Angely where several lively markets are held each week.

About the Owner

We moved to France in October 2015 delighted to have found this former farmyard and buildings that had been converted by the previous owners into 3 gites and a lovely home. We have enjoyed updating the gites and exploring this beautiful part of France and we now look forward to sharing our local knowledge with our visitors.

Super little cottage with outstanding outside area

  • 5 of 5

This was our 4th stay at Lincolns Cottage (including one week in the Farm House with my parents) and we are already booked for 2015. We fell in love with Lincolns Cottage (and in particular it fabulous outside covered space) and the owners Mick and Terry. We all look forward to our time in Dampierre and often meet other regulars year on year.

We don't tend to spend a lot of time indoors and when not in the pool or out and about you will normally find us making full use of the open space outside the cottage. My son (9) loves meeting up and playing with the other children who come to stay and when we drive home is already planning what he wants to do when we go back the following year. Even after 4 trips we still find new things to do as well as some old favourites. Dampierre is a good hour from the coast so we only take the occasional visit that far as it is always crowded, traffic problems and difficult to park; having access to such a lovely pool negates the need for the beach - plus Aulnay and other towns also have open air pools to visit. Although the village has a marvellous little shop, a bar with a restaurant and the Chateau - you do need a car to really get the benefit of the area. We tend to mix our holiday up with days by the pool and days out and about (or a bit of both). We always love our trips to Aulnay Market on the Sunday mornings especially after the long drive down from Calais the day before. You can easily drive down in a day (although avoid the A10 once you get towards Poitiers and travel across country instead). La Rochelle is always worth a visit as is Il de Re and Rohan zoo. We found a water skiing club in Taillebourg, the Port Miniature de Saint-Savinient and so on. A shorter drive from the cottage is the Aisinerie du Baudet (Donkey Sanctuary) which is worth a visit.

Mick and Terry are the nicest hosts you could ever meet and make us feel so welcome. They are always full of useful suggestions and tips on things to do and places to eat (although we haven't managed to get my husband on a bike yet!).

On a practical note - the weather is normally good (although a bit chilly in 2014) so you can travel light and make use of the shared washing machine (for a small charge). There is a local supermarket in Aulnay, plus plenty of other markets and towns to stock up on any provisions.

Over the years we have stayed at numerous other gites and rental cottages in France and the UK and non rival Le Petit Ferme.
