Apartment in Dinan, Cotes D'Armor, Brittany, France - Fantastic Views of the River and Port. Close To Shops, Bars, Cafes and Restaurants

A leisurely walk along the river will lead you to the Rue du Petit Fort/Rue du Jerzual, a beautiful cobbled street lined with traditional Breton style houses dating from the 1400's, which leads up to the enchanting medieval town of Dinan. Dinan itself is surrounded by ancient ramparts which were started in 1283 when Dinan became a ducal town. Places of interest include the Jacobin theatre, Tour de l’Horlorge (clock tower), the Eglise St. Malo, the Eglise Saint Serverne, the Chateau, shops, artists’ workshops and a remarkable selection of excellent restaurants. It is an ideal place to enjoy a short break or a longer holiday with plenty to do for all the family all the year around.

About Sue Wild

We live and are from Northumberland, a most beautiful part of the UK and we are proud of the fact. However we love France, Dinan in particular.

We first came to the area in 1998 and ended owning 3 cottages just south of Dinan. After a few years of successfully renting the cottages we decided we wanted a change and try something new. So we headed off for Tuscany and restored an old farm building but...it wasn't the same as Dinan.

We are happy to be back and bought this apartment in April 2010 and have been congratulating ourselves ever since. All our guests this year have given us lots of positive feedback and we enjoy our short breaks here too.

We have introduced our apartment to our new dog, Sky! She has checked out walks for our canine visitors to enjoy too!

We bought this apartment because of it's fantastic location. Each morning we walk along the quayside to collect bread and croissants for breakfast or something yummy for lunch. From our sitting room window we happily watch the coming and goings on the river. On an evening we can wander along the port to have a meal, either something simple or a gastronomic feast!

A lovely apartment,ideally sited for both fun, relaxation and exercise! We enjoyed walking round the ramparts and wandering round the town. Ideal for cycling with a choice of canal tow paths in either direction, packed lunch eaten at one of the many picnic spots along the way. Finishing each day by sitting watching the world pass by in the evening with a well deserved drink.

Notes on accommodation: Small well behaved dogs are allowed by prior arrangement. Outside: Access to the apartment is via the rear of the building by means of an external staircase to the apartment door. There is a small area by the door which accommodates 2 outdoor chairs. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Cleaning/towels:Linen and towels are included in the rental. The apartment is cleaned before the arrival of each guest. Please bring your own beach towels. Other: Storage area with 1 ladies and 1 gents bike.

Very conveniently situated for Dinan centre

Very nice property in a very good and peaceful location. Very handy for wonderful old Dinan town with its fab restaurants. Lovely walks along the river Rance. Also handy for other towns visits eg Saint Suliac and Combourg. Very helpful host with lots of information provided.

Well situated

Had a lovely time in Dinan. The apartment was well situated on the river and short walk from the town via a steep cobbled road between historic buildings.

The apartment itself was well equipped, clean and tidy and very comfortable.

The spiral stair case limits its use for older family members and an outside seating area would have made the hot evenings more bearable.

Will definitely be returning.

Owner's Response: I always advise guests about the spiral staircase. I am using my husband (74) as my bench mark for accessibility! There will be a new shared outside area available very soon. The owners of the apartment directly below ours are very kindly in the process of making one which will be to the left as you enter the shared courtyard.

Convenient location, clean and well equipped

Perfectly located in Dinan old port area, warm cosy apartment overlooking river and marina. Spiral staircase access via backdoor is fine. Comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen, apartment is cosy.

Dinan town accessible up steep cobbled medieval street, a lovely walk. Hired a boat for 1 hour to go on the river, highly recommended.

Lovely area, Dinard and St Malo beautiful. Mont Saint Michel very very busy so go early!

Sue provided excellent information on area and eating out, very quick response to email questions etc.

Easy and good road access from Cherbourg, no parking problems.

Overall highly recommended for a break in this part of Brittany.

A comfortable, clean apartment .....convenient for places to eat, sightseeing and beaches

The owner Sue was very helpful in the information she provided before we left home giving suggestions of where to eat and where to visit. On arrival at the apartment we were immediately impressed by how clean and tidy it was. There is TV ,DVD and music centre which were a bonus during the winter evenings. The beds were comfortable and the linen was all provided. When you step out of the front door you are on the side of the Rance with all the boats to look at and a walk of a few hundred metres takes you to a selection of places to eat. The beaches at Dinard are about 25 minutes away and a trip to the Intra Muros in St Malo is worthwhile and a similar journey....if you don't want to use your own car there is a local bus service from Dinan Old Town.

All in all I would say that it was an excellent apartment, in an excellent location with a great number of places to visit within short distances. Even the local Intermarche is only about 5 minutes away.

I would have no hesitation in suggesting this apartment to friends or relatives.

One word of warning though.....the apartment is accessed via a spiral stairs and any visitor of limited mobility may have difficulty......having said that our party were all of "mature" years and one of us has had a recent knee operation and we all managed the access

Cosy apartment

This apartment was cosy, clean and comfortable and set overlooking the Rance with lots of access for walking in the area. Although it was out of season and a lot of venues were closed we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The local market was vibrant and we found it an ideal base for a visit to St Malo, Le Mont St Michel and Dol de Bretagne. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this little gem to others. There are fairly steep stairs for access so may not be too good if mobility is a consideration.

Special interest holidays:

The apartment is in the old port of Dinan, yet in a quiet location at the far end of the port.


The north coast is a pleasant 20 minute drive from Dinan where there are plenty of destinations to choose from, whether you enjoy sandy beaches or small intimate coves. From the historical walled city of St Malo town to the seaside resorts of Dinard and St Cast, to the stunning bay of St Briac and picturesque fishing peninsula of St Jacut and the dramatic landscapes of Cap Frehel. The River Rance provides the opportunity for hiring boats, cycling the tow paths or taking a trip to St Malo.


Flights to Brittany are available from London to Rennes and by Ryanair at a very attractive price, from London Stansted or East Midlands to Dinard. Dinard about 20 mins by car. The ferry port of Saint Malo is 30 mins by car. Other ferry ports are an easy drive on good roads, including Caen, Roscoff and Cherbourg (all about 2 hours drive). The public transport connections are good throughout Brittany including a railway station in Dinan which links St. Malo and Rennes and across to Normandy.


Further afield is the 'must see' Mont St Michel and the historic towns of Fougeres, Vitre and the regional capital of Rennes. The Normandy D Day beaches and historic Bayeau can be reached in about 2 hours. The high speed train (TGV) links Dinan to Paris in 4 hours.

Further Details:

Shops: There is a bakery at the bottom of Rue du petit Fort and there are craft shops and restaurants on the way up Rue du petit Fort and on Rue du Jerzual. There are supermarkets within a 5 minute drive. The most convenient being in Lanvallay where there are two to choose from.

Restaurants: In the immediate vicinity there are many - we particularly enjoy the Auberge des Terre Neuvas which specialises in seafood. On the corner of Rue du Petit Fort and Rue du Port is La Lumachelle which specialises in Pizzas, there are several creperies and just opposite by the bridge is our particular favourite L'Atelier Gourmand – don’t go if you are on a diet! Dinan itself has a wide range of good bistros and restaurants, including Chinese, as well as traditional French bars and cafes.

Special events: The Fetes des Remparts, held in even-numbered years on the 3rd weekend in July (2010 is the next one) is an event not to be missed. Duels from the age of chivalry are staged and locals dress in medieval costumes adding to the atmosphere.
