Description

La Roccia (Sleeps 4. 2 Bedrooms)

La Roccia is named after the massive boulder in the kitchen.

Ceilings are original with chestnut beams and terracotta tiles.

Downstairs, this traditional two-storey farmhouse has a large eat-in kitchen, with chestnut cupboards, marble worktops and a dishwasher, as well as an oven and fridge/freezer. There is an original, working fireplace in the kitchen.

On the ground floor there is also a double bedroom, with an antique pine wardrobe, and a shower room.

Up the wrought iron staircase, you’ll find a pretty, two zone sitting room, a double bedroom and a bathroom with a tub.

There is a sofabed in the first half of the sitting room and an open fireplace in the second part, which is dreamlike in the autumn and winter.

There are free satellite channels, DVDs and Wi-Fi access to the internet from your own laptop.

The house has use of the beautiful marble courtyard, with deckchairs, a table and chairs for dining, as well as an outside terrace with deckchairs and a small BBQ.

About the property

IT4030

Borgo della Madonnina, a former olive farm dating from 1743, is close to Celle dei Puccini, home to the family of Giacomo Puccini. The feel of each cottage is light and airy, with simple but thoughtful décor, pleasant furniture, pretty bedding and plenty of fresh towels. You’ll also find fresh flowers and a small selection of books and DVDs. A welcome pack offers local treats and a bottle of prosecco to enjoy on arrival .

Our location means that the Medieval and Renaissance glories of the walled city of Lucca are only 18km away, while Pisa and Florence, Volterra, San Gimingnano and Siena are close enough for day trips. The glamorous beach resorts of Viareggio, Marina di Pietrasanta and Forte dei Marmi are a short (40 minutes), but stunning drive away. Around us, the mountainous Garfagnana national park is one of alpine meadows, rivers and lush hills, making it ideal for walkers, hikers and skiers.

About Adrian Setright

We, Adrian and Christopher, have made Borgo della Madonnina our permanent home since 2003. Previously living and working in London, we recognise the stresses that life can throw at you and aim to make your time in Tuscany as carefree as possible. We have extensive local knowledge, so you will get to see the real Tuscany. However, we can also leave you to discover the area and its beautiful features all on your own

Why Adrian Setright chose Lucca Area

We know how important your holidays are. Our priority is to make sure you have a wonderful time here.

This is our home, and so we cherish it and take care of it every day. We're not absent hosts. From the moment you walk through our doors, we're here to help... if you like. If you prefer solitude, we'll keep a low profile. However, if you'd like help with your itinerary or a restaurant booking, it's our pleasure to assist.

There are no hidden costs. Bedlinen, towels, pool towels, iron & board, gas, electricity and water are all included in the single price you pay.

What makes this cottage unique

Borgo della Madonnina offers three gorgeous, historic cottages dating from 1743. Each one is perfect for a self-catering, thoroughly indulgent holiday in the lush hills of Tuscany.

The cottages are next to our home, Casa della Madonnina. They share the extensive grounds and a small, but stunningly located swimming pool.

You'll find pretty bedlinen and plenty of fresh towels. There will also be a basket of treats, including regional wine, as well as fresh flowers and candles for a romantic atmosphere.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Grazie Adrian!

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: Our cottages have an antique, other-wordly, romantic feel. For your comfort, there are electric fans for use in the summer and wood burning fireplaces and stoves, as well as central heating, for use during the cooler months. Each cottage has access to a communal laundry room, as well as its own iron, ironing board, drying rack and hairdryer, free of charge. We welcome babies and have a travel cot, high chairs, a baby bath and a basic buggy / stroller. Please let us know if you would like to use these, also free of charge. Our property is safe and secluded, set in three and a half hectares (eight and a half acres) of olive terraces and woodland. Children are absolutely welcome, but due to the terraced terrain must be supervised at all times. Outside: Borgo della Madonnina is set in three and a half hectares (eight and a half acres) of olive terraces and woodland, with stunning views over a lush, green valley. Outside, each cottage has a private terrace, table and chairs for dining, covered by a large umbrella, deckchairs, and a small bbq. The small swimming pool measures 10x4m. The pool and its sun terrace, set in a natural amphitheatre with stunning views, seem to hover over the trees - ideal for lounging in the Tuscan sunshine.
