About the property

The three cottages at Arbre de Cerise overlook a grassed courtyard and barn with bicycles, table tennis, football table and darts. Beyond the courtyard is the fenced, heated 10 x 5m swimming pool which is furnished with plenty of sun loungers and shaded tables. The gites are all very well equipped with large LCD TV's with satellite channels, DVD players, ipod/iphone docking speakers and free WI-FI. The kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, microwave, large fridge-freezer and all the small appliances you would expect as well as plenty of crockery, cutlery and assorted kitchen utensils.

Arbre de Cerise is part of the small hamlet of Grange near Linazay and is surrounded by rolling countryside. We are situated of the edge of the Vienne; the climate in this beautiful region of south west France ensures reasonably mild winters and warm summer days. Delightful local villages with boulangeries, bars and restaurants, (which we can highly recommend), along with several historic market towns provide an extensive range of facilities and amenities all within 10 minutes drive.

About Claire Card

We immediately fell in love with Arbre de Cerise when we first visited and knew it was exactly what we were looking for - rural location, surrounded by sunflower and poppy fields but close enough to plenty of local market towns for the essentials and non-essentials. It also had the scope to develop it into three beautifully furnished and well equipped gites with room to put a large pool in the garden.

Claire Card purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Claire Card chose Vienne

Having stayed in many gites with our families over the last 10 + years (some were dreadful - filthy, badly equipped, old furniture), we knew that we wanted to provide the guests to our gites with something better.

From being spotlessly clean, to matching crockery and cutlery, nice bedding and towels, well-equipped kitchens (home-from-home standards) yet still with plenty of French character and charm, to make a holiday relaxing and enjoyable.

What makes this cottage unique

Sparkling, heated pool, with plenty of sun loungers

+Free Wi-Fi. Ipod/MP3 sound systems. Games barn with table tennis. table football and adults and children's bicycles. Large flat screen TV's with FreeSat satellite TV channels. Dishwashers and washing machines

On arrival at the cottage we found the cooker and some of the pans dirty.....also found that the family bathroom shower not working....but I have to say that speaking to the housekeeper she did come over and clean the cooker and got the handyman to sort out the shower head for us......overall the cottage was cosy and loved the swimming pool even if the weather was not that great to use it.....did managed a couple of swims....the area is lovely and we got out and about quite a bit......

We loved this property! one of the best!

  • 5 of 5

We had lovely time staying in Marguerite. The property was very well kept with everything you could possibly want. There was masses of space. A very comfortable sitting room with games and puzzles etc. A very well equipped large kitchen, a breakfast room and utility room, an outdoor eating area. The pool was very safe, clean and comfortable.

The area is very remote which was fine for us - we enjoyed the peace and tranquility. Sunflower fields everywhere. There was lots to do a short car journey away. Some of the things we enjoyed (family with 8, 6 and 4 aged children) were the valley de sange, canoeing, bike riding on the very quiet and safe roads. Swimming in local lakes etc.

I would recommend this gite for families with children. You do share the outdoor space with the other properties so you are not totally private, but because of the outdoor eating area being around the corner from the other two properties' tables it felt private.

All in all a very comfortable, peaceful holiday which the children loved!

Beautiful rural gite, well equipped.

  • 5 of 5

We loved being here and would like to return. There was something for everyone with the pool, table tennis and bikes, and it was all equipped and furnished to a high standard. Lots of little details like having adaptor plugs made it all easy. Thank you.

What a place!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I came here for a few days of relaxation, and that is exactly what we got.

The location is so beautiful and off the beaten track, so not a place to come if you want a lively environment, but we thoroughly enjoyed it.

The gite itself is so well equipped and beautifully furnished. The covered sitting area was a bonus as although we came here late in the season the weather was hot and sunny and we used that a lot.

We also used the superb swimming pool every day, and were impressed at the standard of the outdoor furniture as well.

English TV and the availability of a good wifi were also appreciated.

The "caretakers" were there if we wanted them but did not make their presence felt, and Claire was very helpful and communicative with our booking. The deposit was returned very promptly after our stay.

We could not fault this place, and plan to go back - soon!

Marvellous Marguerite!

  • 5 of 5

Having travelled and stayed in many gives in France I can only describe Marguerite at Arbre de Cerise as an absolute gem. The property has all the rustic charm of a french country retreat coupled with all the mod cons that a modern family need to make the most of their holiday. The property itself is immaculate and with the Wi-Fi, sat TV,pool, table tennis, table football, darts and cycles there was simply too much to entertain us. The property is looked after locally by Andy and Oie and they were on hand if we had an needs. The local area is Sunflower heaven and the property benefits from being a short jump to the N10 which brings the site seeing activities close to hand. The local towns of Civray and Ruffec provided us with good French restaurant life and the information sheet provided by Claire gave us a while host of recommendations which we ticked off one by one. A must visit, whatever your age, is the Valle des Singes ... seeing the apes up close in a natural habitat is just amazing. Angouleme and Poitiers are close by for a visit to a bigger town but the award for most charming experience goes to the small town of Verteuil Sur Charente. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending a stay at Arbre de Cerise and only wish that our holiday had been a little longer!

Lots of clean, sandy beaches can be found less than 90 minutes drive away at La Rochelle. There are also boats out to the 'Islands of Tranquility' (Re, Aix and Oleron) from here.
