Charming croft, beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

This was our first stay on Skye and I think we struck lucky with this house. Although it looks quite small from the outside, it's actually a bit of a tardis with ample space for 4 adults, 3 children and 2 dogs. It was clean and well - maintained with the cosy feel of a traditional croft, yet bright and spacious with a particularly lovely dining area. The glass doors and roof throw the light in even on the gloomiest of days (not that there were many in Skye - usually we saw all weathers in one day). There is a fantastic selection of books in a variety of genres and a fireplace in each of the living areas so many evenings were spent reading in front of the fire after a day's walking. Beds were super comfy and my room had a desk beneath a window looking out onto the sea. We saw the Highland Games while we were there as the croft is a 20 minute drive from Portree which is the main town - a very small and pretty harbour with a great seafood restaurant on the front. The service there was fantastic; my son is coeliac and the waitress even phoned us back to let us know what was gluten free on the menu that evening. Scenery in Skye is breathtaking and there are some intense rainbows. We saw seals on the white coral beach and the children watched Angus shear the sheep right outside our door and they swam in icy fairy pools (children, not sheep!). In short, it was Paradise. We could happily have stayed on and on until I'd read all the books ....

Thanks, Caroline, for a truly lovely stay.

Comfortable, great location and well equipped.

We loved our stay at 6 Knott. The cottage is very central to the island, between Portree and Dunvegan and is cosy and comfortable. Three reception areas including a games room. Loved the sun room - even when it was raining! Beds really good, with good quality linen and excellent showers.

Wonderful week on Skye

  • 4 of 5

Loved our stay at 6 Knott, Caroline made the booking process very simple and the cottage was just as described - we particularly enjoyed spending time in the gorgeous sun room. Definitely appreciated being able to lay a fire or pop the heating on in other rooms as it got nippy at night! Easy to stroll down to the seashore, great location for exploring the island, and the nearest pub (The Edinbane Inn) had lovely food and live music. Highly recommended, we didn't want to leave!

From the Owner

We love the stunning scenery, the endless opportunities to walk in beautiful landscapes and especially the sense of freedom our children feel when they are here. Although it is remote and quiet, there is plenty of life when you choose. There is always something going on in Skye such as live music in various pubs, world class restaurants (such as the Three Chimneys, Kinloch Lodge Hotel and Loch Bay Restaurant) and excellent local seafood (you can collect your own mussels from the beach, or buy local oysters, scallops and langoustine). Close to the cottage there is horse riding, salmon fishing on the River Snizort, Dunvegan castle, the coral beaches... climbing in the Cuillin mountains... A holiday always flies by on the island, there is never enough time to do everything.

From the Owner

Our three children - aged 15, 14 and 10 love this cottage. They can collect shells and mussels on the beach and run along the headland. We often take a picnic to the seashore close to the cottage and even in high summer we rarely see anyone else there. The children love to play in the garden, on the swings or around the shallow burn. They also go horse riding at the nearby stables. The cottage is also very warm in winter, with two log fires and a rayburn that ensures there is endless hot water, plus radiators throughout. One of the special features about 6 Knott is the large kitchen/dining area that opens onto the garden. This is an architect designed, larch clad, contemporary (2010) extension which makes a wonderful, sunny room for the family to gather.
