About the Owner

This beautiful old farmhouse built in the 1700's was bought by my Grandfather in 1936. As my family have been in the immediate area for 9 generations this seems quite recent to us! This is a family home to myself & my husband, 2 older & 2 younger children, 2 dogs & 3 cats.

Gorgeous Cottage, helped make my perfect week

Beautiful house which was perfect for big celebrations with friends over my 30th birthday weekend, as well as just relaxing for the rest of the week with family.

Loved the big kitchen and dining room, the aga being especially helpful when cooking big feasts!

Being a family home, all the bedrooms had their own personality which was just lovely, and there was an abundance of towels and bedding which was really helpful as we had a few room 'changeovers'.

Didn't realise the lounge came complete with a piano, and with a singer/songwriter in the group we had some great evenings having lots of food and wine followed by group sing-a-longs!

Location was perfect and over the week we drove, jogged and cycled to the numerous beaches and villages nearby. We were just sorry to miss the Fisherman's Friends in Port Isaac on the Friday night!

Would love to stay again some time!

The perfect place for a big family holiday

The house just absorbs people and children. We were eight adults and nine children (lots of babies) and we didn't feel crowded at all. It's not immaculate, if you want high-end finishes and en-suite bathrooms this is not the house for you but if you want a lovely, well equipped, big, family-friendly farmhouse and a warm welcome then book now! We had lovely BBQ's in the garden, the children rode their bikes around the large lawn, people read, children sprawled, we drank a lot of wine and ate wonderful fish from Port Issac. There are so many beaches to pick from plus fishing trips. Oh and the camel trail (hire bikes locally) is lots of fun even with a zillion children in tow. The owners are super friendly and helpful. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a fun, relaxed, family-style holiday. We loved it and will be going back.

Idyllic!

With a mixed family bag of 3 grandparents, 2 adults and 4 children, finding the right place is never easy - but Tregeare really was the right one! Plenty of space across plenty of rooms, with a wonderful central dining area and spacious gardens for the children to play in. The family vibe of the house was also much appreciated, as were the practical contents - ranging from the sheer quantity of kitchen/dining stuff to the copious and clean laundry supply! Helpful and unobtrusive assistance from the family too. We meant to go out more for meals, but ended up cooking at the farmhouse most nights which says it all really.

A wonderful place to stay, and we'd love to return sometime.

Lovely spacious home and garden

We had such a lovely week at this house. The family were welcoming, friendly and helpful, the house was fantastic - well equipped, spacious and huge, and the garden was fantastic. We had lots of small children with us and they loved it too. It was not show-homey but for us that's a definite bonus, because it had real character and felt relatively kid proof. It's brilliantly located, close to Port Isaac, Polzeath and our favourite beach Daymer Bay. Would definitely stay again

Beautiful Country Farmhouse

Our family have now holidayed in this stunning traditional farmhouse three times and are hoping for many more visits! Now when we arrive from Surrey and drive down the long private track through the fields it is like we are coming home. We have always visited with another family and it's an ideal place for the children to roam free in both the large house and garden (and that's without leaving to visit the stunning coast and fishing villages nearby!). I particularly love the fact that it's a lived in family home as it ensures that there is everything you need (we are keen cooks so love to cook up a feast when on holiday). It's always left immaculate for us with fresh flowers in all the rooms, and we have always found the owners simultaneously helpful whilst allowing you your own space. We simply can't recommend this incredible place highly enough - a proper traditional Cornish farmhouse in the heart of the countryside - just heavenly.

Ideal secluded family retreat

Nearly a year after our stay we are still talking about the fantastic time we had in Cornwall prior to our son's wedding. We loved the farmhouse, the secluded position and not having to worry about security with the house down a long scenic undulating track and owners a stone's throw away. Despite the tranquil location, shops & other facilities were at most 15 minutes away.

The farmhouse accommodated the whole family plus friends. The kids loved it. The dogs loved it. And we adults loved the "quiet room" with no TV. The facilities of the traditional farmhouse kitchen were more than enough to accommodate everyone for meals.

The bathrooms were spotless and there was plenty of hot water with everyone able to take baths & showers, no matter how late some of us got up.

The farmhouse is still a work in progress and we appreciated the owners giving up their home so that we could enjoy it. The owners were more than helpful, organising fuel when we ran low and even posted some items we left behind at the end of our stay.

We have no hesitation in recommending this property if you're looking for a secluded and genuine family stay in the country.

  • Notes on accommodation: An essential point about this property is that it is a family home that is only let for a maximum of 6 weeks a year, & so is not at all like a standard holiday house. It has lots of character & is not a blank canvas. Some things are rather shabby, some rather smart. Outside: A large & private garden with lawns, outside chairs, table, barbecue etc. There is also more or less unlimited parking in the yard. Utility Room: Utility room provides the ideal space for dogs/wetsuits/coats etc. with a large American import washing machine, tumble dryer, generous fridge & walk in larder. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels (not beach towels) & linen are provided, with beds made up on arrival.
