About the property

Villa in Mijas Pueblo, Costa del Sol - Situated on a Private Estate, 2 Swimming Pools and Tennis Court

Our villa was built for us to our specification - it is upside down to take advantage of the truly stunning views. You enter through the gates into the private garden and the front door opens into the hall from which the twin bedroom and the master bedroom are accessed. There is an ensuite bathroom to the master bedroom and an archway leading through to the fourth bedroom / study. Another door leads through to the fully fitted utility room. Double doors open from the master bedroom and the study room to the garden. Upstairs is open plan living with the galley style kitchen, the dining area and the lounge all enjoying spectacular views across the countryside to the Mediterranean Sea and North Africa. There is a log burning fire for the cooler winter days and a balcony through the lounge doors with outdoor dining and a built in BBQ. Off the lounge is the third double bedroom with a bathroom opposite. All bedrooms have air conditioned/reverse cycle heating. Privacy and tranquillity with stunning views - what more could you want?

About Karen

We have owned this delightful property for 28 years and we still thrill at the magic of Mijas and the wonderful lifestyle we enjoy here, in relaxing and peaceful surroundings. Our children learnt to swim in the pools, play tennis on the court and speak Spanish fluently.

Karen purchased this villa in 1987

Why Karen chose Mijas

We travelled to Andalucia in Spring '86 & toured the coast looking for a home. We arrived in Mijas on our first night (stayed at the Mijas Hotel) and arrived back in Mijas in the evenings thinking - "Ah! Home!!".

Then it dawned on us that Mijas did indeed feel like home and we decided to look locally and stayed ever since!

The villa was built for us and is situated only half an hour from Malaga airport yet with no aircraft noise; the views have remained unchanged despite massive development on the coast - you can see the sparkling Med and the mountains of North Africa as you sip wine on the balcony off the lounge. The coastal bustle is only 5 miles away along with the beaches. Seville Granada Cordoba and Ronda 2 hours away. The charm of Mijas is on your doorstep - where else as good?

What makes this villa unique

The villa is situated only half an hour from Malaga airport yet with no aircraft noise. Fuengirola and the beaches are 5 miles away but the charming and lovely village of Mijas is on the doorstep (1.5kms approx) 20 minutes to walk or a couple of minutes in the car. Local shops, market, restaurants, post office etc are yours to explore and visit every morning if you like your foods fresh.

Granada, Seville, Cordoba, Gibraltar, Ronda, the skiing resort of the Sierra Nevada are all within 2 and a half hours drive. Marbella, Malaga, Benalmadena, Torremolinos are less than half an hour away. Numerous first class golf courses are close by. The area has stunning walks, horse riding, tennis and water sports, water theme parks, international shopping, cinemas - something for everyone.

We stayed at Villa Cantarranas for the month in October 2009. All we can say is WOW, what a wonderful place, a comfortable home, and what a fantastic time we had! The villa was all we could have asked for, but it felt like we were actually living there and not on holiday! If you ever decide to sell, please let us know, if we could afford it we would buy it at the drop of a hat! The peace and quiet, the views, the privacy, everything about it was perfect! Once again we had the most wonderful time at “our Spanish Home”. The grandchildren just love it as we all do, and were never out of the pools, and we were never off the terrace.

We will again be in need of a long rest in the sun and there is only one place I can think of” Villa Cantarranas”.

Notes on accommodation: This villa makes for a lovely family holiday and is suitable for all clients although not recommended for infirm or wheelchair users due to the steepness of the surrounding mountainside. Outside: The villa sits in its own garden with patios. Car parking is next to the villa and the swimming pool is opposite. An even larger pool is approx 7 mins walk away with the tennis court and small bar / restaurant. Outdoor furniture and a BBQ. Utility Room: Washing machine, tumble dryer, small second fridge (for beer/wine!) Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and towels included (please bring your own towels for beach/pool use. Property cleaned and linen changed weekly.

Stunning views from the hillside

The property had everything that we needed for our holiday, also the added extras of a dishwasher and a washing machine.

The owner was friendly and gave us great advice about what to do in the area and when local markets were on and the best ones to go to, she also told us the best beaches in the area, where we enjoyed fantastic paella. The owner has a great policy of leaving previous in date items for the next people using the property, this meant that there was dishwasher tablets and washing powder available straight away.

We had lots of BBQs upstairs on the balcony. There was plenty of seating and we were not short of kitchen utensils. A lovely surprise was the number of games that were available to play, including a pub quiz game and Pictionary.

The views from the balcony are amazing and can be enjoyed night and day. The property is surrounded by greenery, which is well kept. There is an avocado tree in the garden and a variety of herbs which smell lovely. Around the pool area there are fruit trees including lemon and pomegranate. Although it is a shared pool, there were lots of times we had the pool to ourselves.

We had a rental car for the duration of our stay, which I would recommend. It was a good base to visit Gibraltar (day trip) and Africa (day trip), the local town of Mijas is worth a visit and we found all of the tourist information centres friendly and helpful.

We had a fantastic holiday In Karens beautiful house. Karen is such a nice and helpfull person, and she gave us the warmest welcome, and had even done some shopping for our first breakfast. Thank you. We really hope to ve back some day in the near future:-)

WOW what a view

What a fantastic place Villa Cantarranas is. The first thing that hit us as we reached the top of the stairs was the view. We spent many an hour sitting on the balcony just trying to take it in. And with the heat wave we had, having a pool only 50 yards away was great

There was just the 2 of us staying in the Villa, although it could easierly accommodate 2 families. In fact, while we were there, we actually recommended the Villa to a couple staying in another Villa, who wanted to come back with their daughters and grand children.

We found the Villa so peaceful and relaxing and has everything you would have in your own home. We didn’t have a car and did walk into Mijas most nights, however, it is a hard pull up the hill.

And Mijas; the maze of narrow roads and cobbled alleys were spell bounding. We loved spending the nights just walking round, stopping for a cold beer or something to eat, before heading back for a last drink on the balcony.

Karen the owner was very helpful prior to our arrival and when she was un-expectantly called away just before we arrived, she made sure that a friend, Lynne, was there to meet us and ensure we were settled in.

I can't recommend it enough. And we will definitely be back again

This was my first time in Mijas and the surrounding area however husband had been before... I loved it! The Villa was fab, so peaceful and relaxing and oh my what a view! I can't recommend it enough. The Villa has everything you could need and is a real home from home... to have a dishwasher is an added bonus!

We stayed with another couple and this Villa is an ideal set up for 2 couples sharing as is a family staying.

The proximity to the pool is fab and in my opinion is the best located Villa on the urbanisation.

We did venture down to the second pool and although says enter at your own risk as officially closed, we loved it - lovely having a bar/restaurant around.

Everyone around was friendly! Really can't recommend it enough!

I have been back a week and will be back without a doubt!

Karen the owner makes our stay easy in this trip we lived like the locals buying steaks from the local butcher and bbq them in the balcony in the evening the villa has everything you could want and more in a stunning lication

A unique and comfortable home from home.

The property was everything we hoped for clean and comfortable with everything you would need through the holiday. The location is beautiful and peaceful but still in a short drive to many places of interest. Had a lovely meal in a restaurant that the owner recommended. Overall one of the best holidays we have ever had that's why we have booked for next year.

The beaches of Fuengirola are a 5 mile drive away.


Malaga airport is half an hour away by car. There is a local train from the airport to Fuengirola which is cheap and reliable. Buses run from Mijas Pueblo to the coast frequently and there is a small local bus that stops on the edge of the estate to go to the village or down into Fuengirola. Cheap and reliable. Car Hire strongly recommended


Mijas Pueblo 1.5kms - 20mins walk or a 3 minute drive by car. Fuengirola 5 miles away. Malaga and Marbella 30 minutes away. Water park 5 miles away, another 10 miles away. Gibraltar, Grenada, Cordoba, Seville all approx 2 hours drive.

Further Details:

Mijas pueblo provides everything with good quality shops and restaurants, daily market for fresh fish, meat and local produce and a flower market on Saturdays. The annual Feria is a must see (early September) and Easter truly moving with the parade of the local Virgin de la Pena around the church and village.
