About the property

Apartments in Castara, Tobago - Nestled between the Beach and Rainforest, 3 mins from Sea

Hidden Cottage is situated in one of the most peaceful and beautiful fishing villages in the Caribbean. It is an extremely spacious wooden house built on a hillside, with Mot Mot on the ground floor and our studio, Hummingbird, on the level above. We are happy to rent Mot Mot as a superior one bedroom to couples looking for an extra special place or as a two bedroom option for smaller families or two couple. The bedrooms are large and airy with air conditioning, good quality linen and beds. In Mot Mot - our hand crafted kitchen is a delight to cater for families and groups. The wrap around decks offer fantastic outdoor space to sit and relax in peace and quiet and take in wonderful birdwatching. The garden jacuzzi is a great way to stay cool. Both apartments can be opened up into one big house - sleeping 10 comfortably, the one house in the village offering this type on accommodation. A great place for a couple to escape to, or a family to soak-up a true Caribbean holiday.

About Selvin Douglas

Hidden Cottage has been a real labour of love. Originally being from Castara, I began building a home I could visit from the UK with wife and kids and 'lime' with my family back on Tobago. It is an absolute pleasure to own and share with others.

I built the house together with with my brothers and life long friends. From design, to digging out the foundations to putting on the paint, each and everyone has played their part making Hidden Cottage so special.

Nestled between the rainforest and beach I wanted to ensure the design of the house captured the beauty of my family land with its magical, splendid birdlife, mango trees and fruits for all to enjoy. From the decks and the little jacuzzi its time to really relax in comfort and privacy, and take in all nature has to offer.

Selvin Douglas purchased this apartment in 2001

Why Selvin Douglas chose Trinidad & Tobago

The location is in my home Village, my house built on land handed down through generations!

What makes this apartment unique

There's nothing I love more than sitting back watching the birds, drinking a rum and toasting Castara. At night - time to lime and enjoy!

Guest Report, visited in April 2009

Hidden Cottage is a sweetly secluded spot in Castara. We stayed in the Hummingbird Apartment for 5 days where we were surrounded by Nature's beauty: a close quiet beach, lush wild verdant trees laden with fruit, spectacular bird life - and yes, hummingbirds! It met all our needs for simplicity, privacy and comfort. We loved it and hope to return!

You never know what your going to get because your reserving something site unseen. . Well worth the money and time and will be returning if available... I had selvin help me with a taxi ride too and from the airport...when we got to the house there was a gentleman there who gave us a tour explained how everything worked and the bedrooms. The rooms are big and spacious with entry onto the balcony from every room and a hammock to chill out in.. it's up a steep hill so if your not a hill climber you may want to rent a car . I did for 2 days just so i can get to the other side of the island. . There is a bus route. . But the locals don't even trust it . Make sure you get some groceries before coming to town , the locals are not always open and they have just the bare minimum. .. I came with 3 teenagers and they enjoyed the entire trip and definitely will return next year. village people are great.. the beach is awesome and Castara almost started feeling like home ..
