About the Owner

We live in Dorset with our two teenagers and have always loved France. Hectic working lives mean that we have really appreciated the opportunity to relax at Les Fontaines and spend time with our family and friends in a more traditional way.

Comfortable, well-equipped, very well-maintained

  • 5 of 5

We loved it so much here, we extended our stay! It was a last minute break and we were delighted when we arrived. The house was so well-equipped and beautifully restored. We took three teenagers and they loved it! (No WIFI meant that it really was a break for all of us.) It was so lovely to eat outside and to make use of the BBQ. Well situated for some fantastic trips and the most friendly and helpful neighbors. Would definitely recommend this lovely cottage and will certainly return!

Charming cottage, the perfect French escape

  • 5 of 5

We were delighted to arrive at this very warm and traditional cottage in the heart of the countryside. The pretty surroundings are peaceful and made for a very relaxing stay. The garden is full of flowers and is ideal for eating out and we took full advantage of this for breakfast, lunch and dinner on each day of our stay. The feel of the cottage was lovely and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.We found the neighbours particularly warm and welcoming. The location is great for exploring little French villages and larger attractions such as mont St Michel. We took our 3 year old who just loved every minute. The owners went out of their way to ensure we had a wonderful time. We are looking forward to visiting again.

Lovely quiet cottage on the edge of National Park

  • 4 of 5

This is a lovely cottage in a quiet hamlet. Barely a car passed during our stay and the star gazing at night comforted by the warmth from the chimenea was superb. We found the property exactly as we expected and some changes to our original travel plans were easily resolved by the efficient owners. Trips out to the nearby towns of Vire and Mortain gave us a good selection of restaurants. One longer trip to see Granville and walk on the beach was worthwhile. Plenty of wine and the log woodburner made it a very relaxing stay. Would certainly go back again, perhaps with our bikes, and explore further south.

A charming cottage

  • 3 of 5

This a charming spacious cottage. It was very clean and well equipped. Although the cottage is set in quite a rural area the lane the cottage is on seems to be used as a rat-run first thing in the morning and some cars/tractors go past at quiet a speed. As the cottage is set quite close to the road it can be quiet noisy if you sleep with the bedroom window open. The garden for the property is to the side and can only be seen by looking through a small window, not sure I would want to let small children out in the garden on their own as it’s completely overlooked from all angles. Inside the property downstairs smelt damp. We put this down to it being an old property and being shut up for most of the day. Upstairs the master bedroom floor has a lot of movement in it. It feels like you are going to come through it at any time. This is absolutely a get away from it all property. The TV is for watching DVD’s only, there is no wifi and the phone signal is not grate!

Owner's Response: Thanks Sam. So many other guests have told us that they have loved the peace & quiet & freedom from modern technology, & there are plenty of cafes locally with free wi-fi. The guests after you said "The gite was really well equipped and loved the quiet location, other than the occasional tractor which my son loved to watch through his window upstairs".The granite walls mean that the downstairs is naturally cool in the summer, usually a real advantage. Sadly the weather did not live up to expectations during your visit but there are electric radiators for instant warmth & the woodburner has created many a cosy evening.

I had such a wonderful, romantic and relaxing stay in this property. It is located conveniently to local towns and not far from Mont Saint-Michele (a great day out for families and couples). I highly recommend it and hope to stay here again soon. Thank youx

Owner's Response: We are glad you had a wonderful stay & to hear that it was relaxing time for you. Mont St Michel is all the more stunning for the alteration works that have returned it to a tidal island. We look forward to welcoming you again at Les Fontaines.

Facilities

From the Owner

The cottage (the village washhouse) was just habitable when we bought it. Since then it has been carefully restored by local artisans who have balanced modern living standards with preserving the character & beauty of the building. The stunning oak frame and exposed stone walls have been displayed to full effect- you can see the original tally notches in the beams and the wooden pegs used in the construction.
