Casa del Tramonto - converted monastery apartment with pool & stunning views

Overview

Property

Updated: 13-Aug-2016
Tranquil, idyllic location, beautifully renovated property sleeps 9, with pool

The tiny hamlet of Gebbia, where Casa del Tramonto is located, is just 5 km from the ancient walled town of Civitella in Val di Chiana, and is approached by a winding road from Civitella through woodland, much of it sweet chestnut.

The building is reported to be a monastery originating from the 14th century, and has been restored using the original local stone in typical Tuscan style. The three spacious apartments all have full kitchens and bathrooms.

Just in front of the property is the guest terrace, which has sensational views over the Val d'Arno and Tuscan hills. It has a dining and barbecue area, with shade provided by a large gazebo featuring climbing wisteria. The comfortable covered snug on the guest terrace is ideal for enjoying a glass, or two of wine at sunset!!

The pool overlooks the view and has been designed to give the feeling of a spa, with pool terrace, elegant sun beds, eating area and shade provided by a wooden pergola. The grounds and gardens are planted with emphasis on the indigenous plants of the region, featuring many lavender plants, 200 olive trees, almond, fig, apricot trees and vineyard.

The property is surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, the countryside dotted with chestnut, almond, and fig trees . In season, truffles and wild mushrooms are found in the woods. The old vineyard runs alongside a lane planted with cypresses. There are several more terraces on the property, all overlooking the stunning views.

About the Owner

Jules and George discovered this ancient building, reported to be an ancient monastery in 2002. We fell in love with the property, and having come from creative backgrounds, lovingly restored the beautiful building to create three lovely apartments with sensational views from every window. We added the pool overlooking the view in 2005, and carefully designed it to give a spa like feel. We welcome you to share this idyllic spot with us.

Traveling to Tuscany in the fall is quiet and beautiful. My wife and I literally searched hundreds of places for the perfect place in Tuscany for our honeymoon and this was the place. It exceeded expectations on all levels. It was stunning, the photos do not do it justice. The grape leaves were all turning colors, the sunsets were dreamy, and the place was just amazing.

The perfect tuscan holiday

  • 5 of 5

This was our first holiday to Tuscany.

Casa del Tramonto was recommended to us and did not disappoint.

The apartments are in a small hamlet but are within easy reach of historic towns, cities and other attractions. You will need a car.

The accommodation is very comfortable, spotless and has everything you need.

George and Jules are great hosts. They make you feel at home and have a wealth of knowledge about the area, restaurants and other attractions.

Once there it did not take us long to unwind and relax in this quiet spot surrounded by magnificent Tuscan views.

These magnificent views can be appreciated from your apartment, the terrace and the pool area.

The pool is beautiful and the quiet little shaded seating areas in the grounds are well thought out.

We also enjoyed a stroll through the grounds.

After a day out we always enjoyed returning to Casa del Tramonto for a dip in the pool, a drink on the terrace or just to watch a beautiful sunset.

Thank you George and Jules for making our holiday memorable. We enjoyed your company and will certainly recommend your property to family and friends.

Hopefully we will return in the near future.

My wife and I decided to give ourselves a retirement present so we took our time and listened to some friends who told us about the apartments that George and Jules had in the small hamlet of Gebbia we drove down from England and we were not disappointed the views were amazing as were the apartments. George and Jules were the perfect hosts They gave us advice about the area and we met some of there friends. We hope to return in the near future as we have some very happy memories of the area and of our hosts George and Jules

Absolutely Stunning Location, Quiet, comfortable..

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure of staying at Casa del Tramonto for the last week or so and there aren't enough superlatives to describe the amazing time we had there.

Having flown into Pisa airport and hired a car, it couldn't be easier to find...although when you do find it you will see how its situated in a quiet, remote, quaint and classic Italian location, although still within reach of a selection of stunning hill towns and only an hour away from Florence. There are some mind blowing restaurants nearby and George and Jules are more than happy to advise on all the best places to visit and sample the fantastic Italian cuisine.

With views that will blow you away...if you close your eyes and imagine the tuscan hills this place brings that imagination to life, simply breathtaking!

The Apartments are a mix of classic Italian chic and high end luxury boutique hotel!

Jules and George have thought of absolutely everything and it feels like your own home from home (if you live in a massive property with its own private pool and stunning views of tuscan mountains)

If its peace and quiet, relaxation, comfort and a beautiful setting then look no further, so glad we stayed here and can't wait to recommend to friends and family so that they can experience what we have!

Stunning retreat in the Tuscan hills

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from Casa del Tramonto, where we had a wonderful two weeks in the Tuscan hills.

We have visited Italy many times , but have to say this was by far one of the best places we have stayed. The apartment is in a little hamlet called Gebbia, which is remote enough to feel out of the hustle and bustle ( which is just the way we like it) but within easy reach of larger towns and cities.

The apartments are extremely well appointed and have everything you could wish for and more, you can tell that the owners have really thought about this, putting an English touch to a Tuscan retreat. The grounds are beautiful, well kept and the pool with it views are to die for.

The owners George and Jules are great hosts, there if you need them but never intrusive. When we were there Jules returned to England leaving us in George's capable hands ( he did you proud Jules). We were introduced to many culinary experience's that we would never have found without George, all of which were amazing - thank you.

We can't wait to return to this charming and stunning haven in Tuscany

Perfect

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was absolutely perfect. Whilst the location was rural, it was not too far away from Restaurants, supermarkets and beautiful places to visit. So it was exactly what we were looking for. The setting is breathtaking, the views over the valley from our apartment and from the spa and the pool were gorgeous. Our apartment on the third level was lovely, spacious and well equipped. George and Jules were great hosts, with lots of information and recommendations about the area, we thoroughly enjoyed meeting them. Stunning and tranquil, thoroughly recommended. We didn't get to sample their wine, but did buy their olive oil... you MUST get some! Only problem is we only stayed 3 nights... It wasn't long enough!

Facilities

From the Owner

Casa del Tramonto is situated in an incredible area for wine. Wine tours can be arranged and we are on hand to give you any friendly advice. From the guest terraces and pool you look out towards the hills of the Chianti Classico region. You can enjoy the most beautiful sunsets as the property is south west facing. The pool is large for the size of property, and there is plenty of space around the spa-like terraced areas. There are lovely walks in the area, and our own gardens, terraces and olive groves are open for you to explore.
