House between Aubeterre and St Severin, Charente, France - Peaceful Location, Close to Picturesque Villages with Many Local Markets, Golf and Tennis

Situated on the Charente - Dordogne border, the hillside property enjoys panoramic view from every room and patio, spanning over 20kms. It overlooks the rolling countryside of the Charente and the neighbouring golf course and tennis courts, available at only 3 mins walk. The property is a unique barn conversion (to UK standards) full of rustic charm,exposed beams and sympathetically furnished. Many sports can be enjoyed locally such as riding, cycling, kayaking, fishing and river beach. A few kilometres away is the pretty village of Aubeterre, with it's red roofs hugging the cliffside, for which it has been awarded "one of the Prettiest Villages in France". Also close to Brantome, (the venice of Perigord) and St Emillion. The closest village to the property is St Severin, (2kms) which is convenient for baker, butcher, bank, post office, Spar, pharmacy, bars and restaurant. It is ideally centrally located between the cities of Angouleme and Perigueux, both charming in their own right.

About Jacqui Andersen

My husband (Danish) and I (English) live and work in France only a few kilometers from the House at Puygironde. We had been holidaying here for 10 years before making the big step to come to live here, now 8 years, and have not looked back since! We love the country, the countryside the area and the people. We are close by on hand for any help and advice and speak, English, French, German and Danish so all international visitors are most welcome.

Why Jacqui Andersen chose Charente

We chose the area primarily because of it's closeness to the UK, by private and public transport and because of the beautiful weather, only to find that these reasons soon became secondary! The countryside, the rolling landscapes, the peacefulness, the wildlife and the sense of space soon became the primary reasons the latter the secondary! The French people are so friendly and welcoming not to mention the neighbours who embrace us into their homes like we are family, and shower us with all the fruit and vegetables possible when they come into season.

What makes this house unique

The main benefits of the property are the stunning panoramic views that are enjoyed from every room of the property, overlooking the rolling countryside of the Charente and the neighbouring golf course and tennis courts. These sports of course can both be enjoyed at the neighbouring "Manoir" (only a short walk down the hill).

The property is a superb barn conversion with three neighbouring houses, with whom the pool is shared. These properties can also be rented, so is an ideal location for larger gatherings with family, friends, or special occasions such as weddings an parties.

Another fabulous 3 weeks, passed far too quickly, weather great, house and views lovely as ever, back for 3/ 52 next year - The Stewart family who have been coming every year for 13 years!



Beautiful views, peace and serenity only spoilt by the bar and gourmet meals!Really enjoyed the pool - The Raeburn's who enjoyed it so much they have now retired down here!



We have had a thoroughly relaxing 2 weeks down here. We loved the peace and the views. I have spent many blissful hours gazing over the fields and listening to the birdsong. Enjoyed the lovely local restaurants - The Collins Family

Notes on accommodation: The converted barn adjoins three other properties which are also all let out. This means it is ideal for larger gatherings of family and friends and special occasions. Babysitter - English speaking can be arranged. The swimming pool is fenced and gated conforming with the French law. New now with WIFI Outside: A 12 x 6 meter swimming pool (with summer bubble cover) and fenced, (according to French law) is shared with the 3 neighbouring properties within 1 acre of matured gardens. There is a terrace with panoramic view, barbecue, sun loungers and deck chairs. Ideal for families. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen may be provided at an additional cost, and the cleaner is provided at the beginning and end of any stay. For longer term rentals she can be provided at other intervals for an additional cost. Other: The stairs from the ground floor lead to the upstairs landing from which all rooms lead off. Rustic charm with old beams dominate the spacious landing.

Paradise with a view

A beautiful house in a stunning location with wonderful views. Very well equipped with all mod cons including washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, DVD player, BBQ. Board games for all ages supplied and useful local maps and tourist information. Lovely, well maintained swimming pool. Golf and tennis 5 minutes walk down the hill, plus bar, restaurant and weekly BBQs. Owners, Jacqui and Hans, always very helpful and able to advise on local activities and trips. Pretty village of Aubeterre and supermarket and shops in St Severin both 5 minutes drive away. Chalais and Riberac within easy drive for more shops and markets. Plenty of good restaurants to suit all budgets. Would highly recommend this property, the only criticism being that it is difficult to concentrate on a book while sitting on the patio because of the need to constantly look up at the view.

Puygites 2013

We stayed at Puygites in early September 2013 and had a truly fantastic week. The house is set in an idylic part of rural France it was well equiped with all mod cons yet still had a rustic charm being tastefully decorated by the owner.

While the house was great the views were truly superb with a panoramic outlook along the valley and across to the nearby golf course, I don't think a day went by without one of our party passing comment.

The pool was great for the kids where they spent hours playing and when the adults wanted to go out and enjoy themeselves there were plenty of local markets, vineyards and even a game of tennis at the local club.

Evenings were spent dining al fresco with a BBQ and a glass of red, taking in that view as the sun set.

Jacqui and Hans were perfect hosts making sure everthing was OK during our stay.

I would highly recommend a stay here and am sure we will return in the future for another perfect week.

Car: necessary

Special interest holidays:

We can arrange individual tuition for such hobbies as painting, cooking, tennis golf, pottery,etc. for both adults and children alike. Planned walks can be provided, together with picnic lunches incorporating sites of interest. Cycling is a very popular past time visiting all the pretty villages and rivers on route. The tourist office in Aubeterre arranges activities days/half days for children throughout the summer holidays.

Coast/Beach:

One and half hours to the coast with beautiful beaches at Royan. Also 2 hours to La Rochelle and Arcachon which are popular seaside towns. Fantastic seafood restaurants in both locations. River beaches nearer to home at Aubeterre and St Aulaye. Good swimming, restaurants and activities there.

Travel:

Car transport is essential. Car Hire available locally or at airports and TGV stations. Airport and Station collections can be arranged. 6 - 8 hours to channel ports. Paris 5 hrs (airport) TGV train 2hrs 20 mins. Angouleme train station 45 mins and airport 60 mins. Bergerac Airport 1 hour. Bordeaux airport 1and half hours.La Rochelle 2 and half hours. Limoges, 2 hrs.

Distances:

2kms to St. Severin with all local amenities. Aubeterre 7km. Riberac 12km. Brantome 30km. Angouleme 40km. Cognac, St. Emilion, Perigueux, Bergerac, Libourne, Bordeaux, Saintes all about 1.5 hours Royan is the nearest coast resort, about 1 and half hours hours away. Slightly further afield, Sarlat and the famous Lascaux caves.

Further Details:

St severin, 2kms away has very easily accessible local amenities and good parking facilities. Post office, bank, ATM machine, newsagent pharmacy, butcher, baker, spar, grocer, English book shop and restaurants and cafes. Riberac, 15mins drive. Larger town with everything you need, including a very popular large market on a friday held through out the year. Also has supermarkets, builders merchants, petrol stations, library, internet cafes and cinemas showing English films sometimes. Aubeterre 5 mins drive. Pretty village set on the top of a cliff. Very picturesque, used in many french films. It has many cafes, restaurants, monolithic church, pottery shops, supermarket, and pharmacy. At the bottom the hill is a river beach with camp site. Kayaks can be hired for river trips there, also tennis courts, table tennis etc. The tourist office arranges many children's day and half day activities through the summer holidays. Angouleme, about 45 mins drive away. A very pretty city sitting proud on the top of a hill, and is surrounded by the old ramparts still. This is a very pretty walk with spectacular views and houses the international renowned "vintage car rally weekend" every September where they race around the ramparts. There are good shops and an international range of eating houses. Angouleme is also famous for it's "comic museum, " and has many cartoon drawings painted on the buildings on the outskirts is a very large swimming pool and skating rink complex called "nautilus". This houses 6 swimming pools, inside and out, for pleasure and fitness and is open all the year around. Perigueux about 45 mins drive away. A large pretty city sitting on the dordogne river. The old town is particularly atmospheric with corner street restaurants bustling in the summer. Many shops, restaurants, and a multi screen cinema. There are organised walks around the ramparts in the season.
