Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a lovely week in Anstruther thank you. The flat was perfect you had done to a very high standard and very good taste; it was also in a great location. I loved the furnishings and sitting in the window seats in the evening with a glass of wine looking out to sea. We will definitely recommend it to others and hope to return again another year. Emma Gordon

You've thought of everything: I loved sitting on those window seats and looking out and listening to the sea. It was like home from home. Angie Sands.

Everything needed was there, lovely touches with the decor (I've been a contract interior designer all my working life, so take that as the highest praise!) and it felt like home. The first morning we were there and I awoke, snuggled under the duvet, to the sound of the sea with the pale winter sunlight filtering through the blind into this pretty white room - had I died in the night and gone to heaven? It was bliss. Anne McIntosh.

Great little flat with stunning views!

  • 4 of 5

Our family of four had an enjoyable mid term break in this lovely and deceptively large flat. It is decorated to a high standard and was spotlessly clean. The kitchen is well appointed with everything you would need for a short break. The views of the beach from the front bedroom and lounge windows are stunning and we enjoyed exploring the local villages and eating in some fabulous restaurants - would recommend The Bank just around the corner!

Lovely Location

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I had a great extended weekend break in Anstruther. The views from the flat are brilliant and we felt at home right away. Also loved the fac that the building is so old ((late18century, I think) and yet very cosy. It was a great base with lots to do around Anstruther and along the Fife coast. Particularly enjoyed Kellie Castle and the St Andrews Cheese Shop, and of course the famous Fish and Chips.

Castle Street Anstruther

Stayed in this property for a week at the beginning of Sep and really enjoyed it. Flat was clean and very well equipped. Right next to the sea and a stunning view from the sitting room. Shops, restaurants and bars all close at hand. Also enjoyed coastal walks along to Crail and Pittenweem.

East Neuk sea side haven!

  • 5 of 5

Family of 4 spent a superb weekend at this delightful property to celebrate a special birtday. The accomodation is in the perfect location and is beautifully presented to a very high standard. The sea views are stunning, and we couldn't have asked for a better location as a base to explore our favourite part of the country. We look forward to returning next year and have no hesitation in recommending this holiday accomodation to others.

Location

From the Owner

When I came to Scotland and discovered the East Neuk, it was like discovering a wonderful secret. I imagine this is what Devon and Cornwall must have been like 50 years ago: full of character, unspoilt, and just beautiful...

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Edinburgh at 76 Kilometres Nearest Ferry : Anstruther to Isle of May at 25 Metres Nearest Golf : Anstruther Golf course at 1 Kilometres Nearest Train : Leuchars at 15 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : The Waterfront at 25 Metres Nearest Beach : Anstruther Beach at 1 Metres Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

Spitting distance to the beach in front of the flat. It's so close, the waves occasionally hit the house! There are many outstanding beaches along the Fife Coastal Path at Pittenweem, Elie, Kingsbarns and St Andrews. Also close by is Tentsmuir Forest (15 miles) with stunning sand dunes, resident seals and a forest where you can ride bikes and horses.

Travel:

St Andrews - 10 miles (10 minutes).

Edinburgh Airport - 50 miles (1 hour).

Dundee - 20 miles (1/2 hour).

Leuchars train station - 20 minutes by car.

Car is recommended to fully explore the area though local bus transport (to take after a long walk) is excellent.

Distances:

You are in Anstruther with all amenities within easy walking distance (shops, restaurants, library, museum, harbour etc).

Further Details:

Anstruther is famous for its fish and chips and there are two excellent chippies, an award winning fine dining restaurant and some delightful pubs with good grub.

A local supermarket is 5 minute walk away while there is a deli, baker, fishmonger and butcher as well as cafes within a 1-2 minute walk.

Anstruther has a delightful museum, The Scottish Fisheries Museum, recounting the East Neuk's fishing past.

A ferry ride will take you to the bird watcher's paradise of the Isle of May or you can go fishing, sea kayaking or yachting along the coastline. National Trust properties include the wonderful Kellie Castle and its beautiful garden. And then there's the Secret Bunker, an eccentric warren of rooms 100 feet underground where Scotland would have been governed in the event of a nuclear war.

The other fishing villages in the East Neuk - Elie, St Monan's, Pittenweem, Crail can all be accessed by walking along the Fife Coastal path. These are all delightful, each offering different cafes, to take a well-earned rest. St Andrews - 10 minutes away by car - boasts a ruined abbey, a castle, the oldest university in Britain, great shopping, Italian ice cream, a thriving theatre, two stunning beaches, golf to die for, an aquarium, botanic garden and some really excellent restaurants and cafes. One of the best towns to walk around.

Facilities

From the Owner

Quite frankly, the best sea view you could ever wish for. What's so special about it is that it changes all the time, with the tides, the weather, the light...you just can't beat it. When it's cold, there's a pretty wood-burning stove to warm yourselves. When it's warm, you can just open the windows and smell the sea. The owner is a keen art collector and she has furnished the flat as if it were her own home with unique art and bespoke pieces she has collected over the years.
