About the property

3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, vineyard, mountain views

Close to the ´Massif des Maures´ you will find the authentic and picturesque hamlet Valdegilly which is only 5 kilometers away from the medieval village of Grimaud, one of the most beautiful villages in France. Port Grimaud, adored by boat lovers, is situated on the Mediterranean in the Gulf of St Tropez well-known for its beautiful beaches and other entertainments. Valdegilly, with only 35 houses (most of them restored original hamlet houses) is situated only 6 km from the nearest beach. The hamlet is extremely quiet, no shops, no church, no restaurants, not even a pub, therefore it is an oasis of tranquillity with hardly any traffic and is surrounded by hills, woods and vineyards. 10 minutes drive away you also have the town of Cogolin, where you will find supermarkets, all kinds of stores and many fine restaurants. Sporting possibilities are unlimited for biking, trekking, horse riding, sailing, diving, quad bikes for rent and many very attractive 18 holes golf course.

About Sylvia Riechelmann

´La Ruine´ was rebuilt in 1999 on the foundations of an old farm by Sylvia and Matthew Riechelmann.

After their careers in international advertising and in publishing they decided to move from Amsterdam to Valdegilly where they enjoy a new life. They speak French, English and German and are eager to assist their guests with practical information.

Sylvia Riechelmann purchased this villa in 2000

Why Sylvia Riechelmann chose St Tropez region

We have built La Ruine in 2000, it is our 17 years anniversary! Families are so happy here it's near St. Tropez, Cannes, Nice, Aix en Provence and Marseille, but you are really in a small and beautiful hamlet near vineyards and important it's safe for you and your children.

What makes this villa unique

Come and see and you will always return to Valdegilly.

The road or rather the path, passes a row of provencal houses that are huddled together. Further along, a lizard climbs up the coloured shutters that have faded with time. Come spring time, the hamlet is adorned with several different sunlit flowers, like in a picture postcard and all this in an atmosphere of peace, calm and serenity. Valdegilly is distant from urban districts and the inhabitants have been striving to protect this heritage which is almost unique in the region. However nothing has stood still and the surrounding vineyards have spread far afield, enhancing vine growing activity backed since years by many generations of passionate farmers.

Guestbook comments from the owner

La Ruine has received guests from all over the world during the last 14 years.

Several families are coming back since the beginning, we have seen little children become teenagers, puppies into dogs.

A wonderful homely environment with Sylvia and Matthew close by and extremely welcoming and helpful!

We stayed in La Ruine for a week. the villa was very well equipped and Sylvia and Matthew could not have been more attentive or welcoming...they were wonderful!

We found the villa very warm at night and the mosquitos left their mark so pack lots of repellent but otherwise a wonderful and relaxing holiday in a stunning part of France.
